    I kinda dont like the questions, since the purpose of this exam is to gauge your ability in speaking english. I must say that these questions are really hard to answer on the spot especially to those (like me) who don't give a sh*t to my surroundings since I am an introvert.

    Use subtitles in movies improve your IELTS skills with these three strategies:
    1. Beginner: Watch video with subtitles and repeat what the characters say every 5-10 seconds. Take breaks every five minutes.
    2. Intermediate: Watch video without subtitles and pause every 5-10 seconds to write down what you heard. Then, check to see if what you heard and the subtitle match.
    3. Advanced: Watch video with subtitles and paraphrase what the characters say every 5-10 seconds. Aim to paraphrase at least 50% of dialogues.

    Overall, quite useful, but you might want to fix the spelling mistakes in the transcript. I know some words were spelled the British rather than the American way (e.g., "tonnes" rather than "tons"), but there were also some spelling mistakes (e.g., she clearly said "college" and not "collage" - two very different words that are not even pronounced the same way).

    • @GeneralIELTSHelp
      @GeneralIELTSHelp  9 лет назад +34

      Hi Niusha, That is a good question. The task 2 questions are still general in nature, so you should be able to make up an answer even if you do not know much about the topic. For example, in this case you could imagine that one of your good friends who has leadership qualities is a leader in your community - describe him or her and add information like "he/she improved the school system, roads, transportation etc. with positive attitude and skills" - Of course, this type of answer requires you to practice this before the official exam. Good luck with your studies and again, thanks for the excellent inquiry, from the team at www.aehelp.com

    • @LukasKamin
      @LukasKamin 5 лет назад +2

      I would add up to the Newsha's question. Say, if in the country, where I live, it's not common to have any communities, hence we don't have any community leaders at all, we have mostly multistoried buildings here and not much communication between neighbors, as well as we don't have any community centers, nor community programs (at least I am not aware of them). What should I do, if the question focuses on some issue, I knew really few or even nothing about, because I never faced it in my life before? Agree, the lifestyle in English-speaking countries differs greatly from that of mid-European countries (to say nothing of post-Soviet countries). there's a huge difference in the way of living and organization of everyday life.
      The other question is whether the questions of the Speaking Part correlate to the local realities (thus are they coherent to it). Thank you so much for your reply

      Hi Wei, no person speaks exactly the same as another person on this planet. Yes, I know what you mean "if you are not a native English speaker", but this is not true. Perhaps there may be an accent, but English as a Second Language speaker (ESL) can speak just as clearly, coherently, fluently and intelligently - even more! We have heard many international students who have outstanding English speaking skills and started learning from fifteen. So, practice hard and know that the sky is the limit! www.aehelp.com

      Collage is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
      And College is an education before University.

    Good video but I think this candidate is not good enough to get a band 9 score because her voice is flat and she has used slang (informal) word like "Kids" instead of Children (9:31). Also in your video I have found many mistakes: In this video "Collage" instead of "College" (11:25), In an another video "Aliment" instead of "Ailment" and "Affects" instead of "Effects". I think you should prepare your information meticulously because thousand of people can have misunderstanding of these words who are learning from you. Thanks.

    • @GeneralIELTSHelp
      @GeneralIELTSHelp  7 лет назад +7

      Hi Rajendra, Thanks for the feedback. Slang is okay, in fact can be quite good, as long as it is accurate in context. Don't get lost in the details, make sure to focus on the big picture. It is good that you are studying hard and able to spot mistakes. Keep up the good work.

      Hi Imran, In speech we often misuse, 'was' instead of 'were'. She uses complex language throughout her responses with subordinating and coordinating conjunctions. At the worst, this would score an 8.5. Nevertheless, your feedback is appreciated.

      *By any stretch of THE imagination....*WHEN she says, not where (sounds unnatural and inappropriate).......as a learner, it really isn't wise to critique native speakers on their abilities (we find it arrogant, especially when the learner in question has noticeable flaws). Don't be deceived, using complex arbitrary words doesn't make you a better English speaker (it IS useful to have a large vocabulary however). Native's learn the language in-depth at school and use it to write essays, read books etc. However, in conversational speech, we seldom feel the need to blurt out polysyllabic words in the hopes of sounding more educated. It can even come across as pretentious sometimes. She's a native speaker, her answers were practically perfect. All the best.

    I came here because I'm searching for the correct pronunciation of the word "because". In every video I saw people pronouncing it in different manner. I heard 4 or 5 different variants (US, Canada, UK, Australia). Sometimes people from one country are pronouncing it in a different way.
    So, to be "natural" - what way of pronunciation I have to use? I have a mass of different accents in my brain now and I just can't identify what variants I have to combine when I'm talking....

    Most of education from school to university is in english also instruction and demonstration 70% english and rest native languages. i have also done lots of courses from international university where a lot of different nationals come . for four years i have been speaking english . (Involving in projects, demonstrate them, group discussions, group meetings, techincal writtings and many more). my accent depends on my moode and i watch a lot of american movies and shows , science discussion (i noticed while having conversation, people dont take care of grammer so as i) .
    Please tell me do i still need to get prepared for ielts? i m asking question becuase in the video when u gave the card as speaking topic i didn't had much in my mind to talk about it . if i dont have any idea about the topic i cant speak even in my native language? any suggestion .
