I spent pretty much my whole entire St. Patrick's Day filmming trains in my FAVORITE area (Home ground) San Juan Capistrano, CA. This was the last day that trains were able to sound their horns at 5 crossing, as they are now quiet zones.
0:30 - Train #1 - (Avenida Aeropuerto crossing) Amtrak #573 with Pacific Surfliner Cabcar #6900 BLASTING it's K5LA !!! F59PHI #463 trailing.
2:06 - Train #2 - (Avenida Aeropuerto) Amtrak #572 with P42DC #10 with decent K5L action and F40PH #90208 trailing.
3:16 - Train #3 - (Del Obispo St. crossing) Amtrak #777 with Pacific Surfliner Cabcar #6906 leading with it's coned K5LA. F59PHI #451 trailing. Note: I made a mistake of shooting this on a hollow metal surface that shook the crap out of my tripod.
4:51 - Train #4 - (Del Obispo St. crossing) Amtrak #774 leaving the Depot with F59PHI #459 showing off some GREAT horn action !!
6:28 - Train #5 - (South end of the Depot looking toward Del Obispo St.) Amtrak #579 with Pacific Surfliner Cabcar #6951 leading with good horn action, and F59PHI #454 trailing.
8:51 - Train #6 - (Oso Rd. crossing) Amtrak #580 with F59PHI #460 coming in slow for some reason... Good K5LA horn action though..
9:59 - Train #7 - (Oso Rd. crossing) - Amtrak #583 with F40PH #90208 leading with it's nice sounding horn! P42DC #10 following.
11:22 - Train #8 - (Del Obispo St.) Amtrak #582 leaving the station with F59PHI #463 leading with GREAT horn action !!!, and new E Bell.
12:50 - Train #9 - (South end of the Depot looking toward Del Obispo St.) - Amtrak #785 with Pacific Surfliner Cabcar #6908 leading the way, and F59PHI #459 trailing. Note: Shooting from this location is very special to me. I've been watching trains from this spot since i was prolly about 5 years old. (Most likely the last time with train horns)
15:15 - Train #10 - (Oso Rd.) This sad sad day could not have ended any better! It's been my FAVORITE UNIT since the 90's !!! - F59PHI #455 leading the way, and FLYING through Oso Rd. with Pacific Surfliner Cabcar #6903 trailing.
I feel sad for railfans and the hard working men and women working on the railroad, these people in quiet zones obviously have no respect for the railroad. QZs pose a major threat to public safety.
16:10 just Beautiful
yup listen for just a BELL when the train comes flying at 70mph that sounds legit hahahahahahahahaha
LMFAO
Nnnnnññññnnnnnnnnnnnnnnñnnnnnnnnñnñnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnññnññnnnnnnnnnnnnnnñnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnñnnnnnnnñnñnnnnnnñnnñnñnjnnnñnñnnñn
Apparently, people never heard of moving AWAY from railroads.
I like it. Very cool that you got to document the last day of horns on video.
Exellent Horn action from all the cabcars/F59PHIs/P42DC
Beau Bowen is stealing your videos and is acting like you!!
Real nice video man!! That's complete garbage regarding the QZ. The Surfline is turning into some straight nonsense now! I hate all these changes! 463 was BOSS!! That horn is Awesome now, especially at slower speeds!! Keep filming these trains though!! Don't let the QZ deter you!
AmtrakCal462 people seriously need to respect trains more. The horns are for safety
F40PH #90208 sounds good but #90214 sounds a like a king!
That's literally a crying shame that the train horns are forbidden in these areas. To me, that is what distinguishes Amtrak trains from any other trains. Their distinct horns!
Amtrak Cabcar 6906 sounds a bit like Coaster Cabcar 2301
455's train was 784.
Well next step would be to rip the tracks up ,Because trains make to much noise.
You know I think it would've been better if they put 6951 with 459 on 774-785 and 6908 with 454 on 579. But also, the Cabcar with 460 was probably 6905.
Why Is The Last Day Of Train Horns In San Juan Capistrano?
The very next day, all the crossings in the city became quiet zones.
It's nice to see vehicles wait until the gates are all the way up and the flashing lights turn off.
LOL 785's engineer pulled the shade down on you ...
Hi
fabulous..!! really great work
Nice video spencer
Oooooh so that's why I don't hear them anymore
Railroad is my absolute number #1 choice of intercity travel (I HATE long distance driving and flying) but I would advise Capistrano and other rail-centric locations and their residents to use (A) earplugs, (B) white noise generators, (C) electric fans, the louder the better, and (D) boring overnight AM talk radio. I would advise this to anyone living in apartment communities nowhere near any railroads.
I'm a VERY light sleeper; a mosquito-fart would awaken ME. LOL. I speak from experience! LOL!
