It's so beautiful to see these two wonderful performers together. Kathleen Battle has mellowed out and become very spiritual. Her gorgeous voice is crisp, clear and light as a feather - as always.

After hearing Keys' original song for the first time (also in 2021), I realized, even more, how magical this duet is. They blended Keys' simply profound song-gem, and her fabulously scratchy and controlled vocals, with the divinely majestic "Ave Maria," as delivered by the pure bars of perfection that are Miss Kathleen Battle's voice. I don't know if Keys conceived and composed the blending of the songs (I wouldn't be surprised if she did), but the way the opera goddess Kathleen wraps her song around Keys' song is sublime. (One must know Kathleen Battle to understand that she could deliver no less than sublime.) The two melodies actually perform a mating ritual that is reflected in the love and respect evident in the faces of the two singers. Just beautiful.
Angels can sing until... I saw Sarah Vaughn 3 weeks before she passed at the Vancouver Jazz Festival and She was Amazing!!! Kathleen Battle will be just like her! Singing until... Such a Gift from God! Thankyou for sharing your Gift!!
Note how close Alicia's mouth is to the mic vs Ms Battle's mouth, even when they're singing in the same register. That's the difference between good breath support and excellent breath support. Operatic training FTW.

I understand from one of her classmates from the Graduate Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, that Director James Levine believed that there was only room for ONE diva at the Met, and it was him!

Kathleen's a trained opera singer. Huge difference. We are taught how to project properly, not just 'belt'.
I was listening as I typed that. Holy cow AK goes FLAT. Listen to Ms. Battle's voice, and Alicia's at 5.47... you'll see what I'm talking about.
