What a haul! I've added The Friendly Jane Austen to my nonfiction November TBR. It sounds delightful...I can't believe you found a Beverly Nichols! The bookstagram community has convinced me that Nichols is an author I need to get to.
A very nice haul indeed! However, my favorite part is when you say Aeneid and read along. Please, pleeeease!!! The world needs a read along of The Aeneid!!! I'll be waiting for it. I'm also very excited about the Moby Dick read in november. That particular book had always been outside my radar until yesterday, jajaja. I heard you talk about it and I said to myself, "you have to read it!" So thank you for that Steve. I am definitely joining in. 😀
I've recently discovered and enjoy Alan Furst's WWII espionage novels and want to collect more. The trouble is they seem to almost never appear in any used book store that I visit. I wonder why that is. Your thoughts?
Two of my 3 Beverly Nichols books were found used, one in a used bookstore and one (The Garden Path one) at my library’s used books for sale shelves. He is more popular today than you think, at least with the book bloggers I read.
I love the cover to "The Whirlpool" I have not encountered the author, however I have no doubt that "The Odd Women" and "The Whirlpool" will be a good place to start. Thank you for sharing your visit to The Brattle.
Fantastic haul! My dad got me hooked on his copy of "The Friendly Shakespeare." That means if you are saying that "The Friendly Austen" is even better, than I REALLY need to check it out. I love it when writers are excited for other writers (I don't care if that sounds meta). Also, is George Gissing worth reading? I know he is a polarizing writer for you. However, is his GOOD stuff worth reading?
Sometimes! At the moment, in the sale lot, they have a handful of comics, a bunch of old sci-fi magazines, and a pile of old playbills - plus 2000 books!

Those comics look like they're in pretty good condition. Nice find!
I read Friendly Shakespeare years ago and absolutely loved it. I have the Friendly Dickens as well. Will definitely get the rest
Spring for the John le Carre.
Your Bloom voice - I died😂
Yes, it was the Return of the Bloom voice, not heard since ShakeTube 2017!

I've noticed that too! The explanation I always revert to is the simplest: people just don't give them up!
What a perfect opportunity to read Aeneid as a Sunday Read-along sometime in 2019, right?
Hooray!!!!

"The Odd Women" and "New Grub Street" are very much worth your reading time!
Can I agree with your friend that gardening will be a reading project?

His good stuff is very much worth reading! I just wish there were more of it -
LODESTAR!?!?!? *whispers* did Natalie Tylerwrite an op-ed recently? lol
HAH! Oh my, I'd entirely forgotten that! HAH! Yes, Natalie Tyler clearly wrote that notorious op-ed!
The Brattle sells comic books??

A book you've never read.. believe it or not, you say. I say not.
It's true! I haven't read LITERALLY EVERYTHING!
