      Mike was a five time heavyweight kick boxing champ aside from being a veteran SWAT officer. A wealth of knowledge.

      @@systemacanada Would it be possible to get Mike's last name or a link to one of his heavyweight fights? Knowing now that he was a kickboxing champ, he was very humble about his reference to standing in front of someone and trading blows.

    This is clearly geared towards police tactics. I misunderstood the title. I thought it was about escalation and apropriate response....
    Anyway, it got me thinking about some cases:
    A) person might not hear your command (you'd be surprised how ignorant people have become of their surroundings on the street....)
    B) does he even understand your command (foreigner, drugged, in panic, shock, being insane...)
    C) when it comes to loved ones, a lot of people will disregard any authority. I've recently seen such a case where a mother tried to prevent the amputation of her sons legs in hospital, but the hospital staff didn't accept either of their decisions but had someone come to legally represent the patient against both of their expressed will and decide on the patients behalf!

      Absolutely. These are the risks of intervention.language barrier and ambient sounds make the initial fence and communication more important. I posted a video on this earlier this week.

      Absolutely. I’d you are able to run, run, but this is about intervention, not life and death self defense. The scenario we are discussing in this clip is when you are trying to non violently intervene to assist someone who
      Might be drunk, disruptive, delusional, disassociate etc. We engage verbally and maintain distance, try to see-escalate verbally and ideally wait for authorities to arrive or for the discussion to resolve but in some cases you might need to move the subject from the primary scene to the secondary. For their safety or the safety of others. If you are a professional it may even be a legal obligation. But yes if we’re talking about a fight, just avoid and get out of there.

    Diesel fuel is becoming very expensive. Gasoline and diesel will be rationed. This will cause a huge chain reaction in the economy resulting in food shortages, job losses, business failures, and skyrocketing crime. Time to get into physical shape and sharpen fighting skills. HOWEVER, Avoid trusting in the martial arts because many people carry kinetic energy tools that make martial arts obsolete. I know of a black belt taekwondo expert who was laid to rest with a .45 caliber projectile half way through his perfect high jumping round house kick to the bad guys head. Over confidence can get you killed in the wild Wild West where open carry and concealed carry are legal without a license in Texas.

    Not applicable to citizens .. Compliance ? Am I under arrest? lol In the street , if your touching someone it should be to take their balance or to hurt them or to deflect/block the attack while moving to the open space. I think confusing police tactics with street fighting is confusing for folks. On the street, distance is primary...

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  2 года назад +6

      I disagree massively. It’s obviously Intended for intervention and not self defense so social workers, teachers, police etc, but as a citizen you
      might be called upon to deescalate drunk people , a drug addict, a person having a psychological episode, an autistic teen, a suicidal individual etc. People may not be trying to hurt you, they may be at risk of hurting themselves or innocent bystanders. For me being a citizen is about more than obeying laws and paying taxes. It should be about trying to make the world a better place, to support those in need and to contribute to greater wellness and peace-not just avoid problems and smash the ones that bump into you. I think it would be more to correct to say not applicable to you. I’m a citizen and this is very much applicable to me .

    • @jameshazem9684

      Not applicable to citizens? Is this a joke? And you do know that the principle of compliance is applicable in other contexts than law enforcement, right? The fact that you automatically assume that you have to be under arrest to comply with something is very questionable... As a social worker who works with people on the street, I am regularly in contact with individuals with mental illnesses and drug addictions, and my simple attire (or the uniform of a police officer when I am accompanied by one) can have an escalating effect on them. So it is not unusual for family members, friends, superficial acquaintances from the neighborhood, and even strangers to help calm down the person to make sure that everything is peacefully solved. And these people are all citizens -- I guess it is a good thing that not everyone has a smash-or-no-smash mentality and that not everyone is so indifferent to the ones in potential need in their community. Furthermore, if you knew anything about Kevin Secours' work, you would very much know that he is an advocate of any Stunt-N-Run principles: he is just able to adapt to both the setting and the subject. Something that, apparently, not everyone can do... There is no magic formula for any situation. Distance, even as a citizen, is not always an option. And when distance is not an option, physical violence is rarely the only alternative left.

      @@jameshazem9684 Sounds like I ruffled your feathers. Not sure why? It wasnt a personal attack .. I just think applying law enforcement principles to self defence situations can be problematic. Again your coming at it from a law enforcement angle which is exactly my issue.. Ill spell it out for you. Once an officer has made physical contact with you than he has effected an arrest. As a citizen if you go around putting your hand on folks it's called an assault or simply battery. As far as how Kevin put his hand on the guy...I dont think he has as much control of the suspect as he thinks. No head control , no two on one on the arm elbow. Honesty the whole concept is sketchy and I don't think it would be lawful or effective. What's stopping the person from drawing a knife with the free hand?

    • @systemacanada
      @systemacanada  2 года назад +5

      @@gregoryrogalsky6937 first off I know you’re not familiar with my work since you don’t know that’s not me in the video lol. Secondly, Mike is a seasoned law enforcement officer and this is a seminar on intervention, not self defense. Third, as I said in my reply to you, there are numerous intervention scenarios for citizens that require contact in this manner. Fourth, I worked the door at rough clubs and there were many times you had to initiate contact with people and it was necessary to check for compliance with arm control. You can’t jump to head control directly. It just wouldn’t be appropriate. Again the issue is that you’re viewing all combat through a single force lens. Initiating contact is always dangerous and we always seek to avoid doing it when we can . Just this week I posted on the role of the fence and the need to avoid contact, but there are times where people might damages themselves or property , innocents or flee where it might be necessary to intervene. Again all in
      my answer above.

      @@systemacanada Your right I am not familiar with you work . And your right, I had no idea that this was a law enforcement seminar.. Expecting to know your work is your excuse for mixing law enforcement with self defence. ? Your comments don't answer the points I made about your weakness in your control. The comment about your testing for compliance is telling.. Again , I say.. Am I under arrest. ? If not than get your fucking hands off me lol .. I will say that from what Iv seen your use of force tactics and use of control is sadly lacking. Officer safety is officer cowardice. Sorry I waded in ... clearly my observation are not apprenticed.
