If you use parametric model, you can add an opening at any portion and the mesh is adjusted based on the opening. In older version of STAAD, there were few problems with Parametric model option, you can try with the latest one where those problems are fixed.
Wind load generator should work properly unless there is some modelling issue or the inputs are not correct. Also in older version of STAAD, it was not possible to use this with SET Z UP command.
