Best Metallic Gel Pens? [Pentel Sunburst vs Uni-Ball Metallic Gel Pens]

- You know I love all things bling! So while checking out at our local art store I saw a package of Pentel Metallic Gel Pens and just had to get them. They are the Pentel Gold and Silver Sunburst pens and I wanted to compare them to my favorites-the Uni-Ball Signo Gel Impact Gold and Silver Gel Pens.
Before recording this video, my opinion was that the Uniball were the best metallic gel pens-the best gold gel pen and the best silver gel pen available. So did these new Pentel metallic pens change my mind? Watch to find out!
I also compared them to several other gold and silver gel pens that I own, including Sakura Gelly Roll, Arteza, the Pentel Sparkle Pops and more. Watch and let me know which ones you think are the best metallic gel pens.

Pentel hybrid dual metallic is the british name for the pentel sparkle pop pens. They are the same pens just different branding for the different countries.

Have you tried the jelly gouache they work great. Dede Willingham worked with them this week. They have great pigmentation and colors. If you have not tried them you should. I am not not sure of the brand she had but she list it. Good brand. You and your family have a wonderful holiday season. hugs to rose. . thank you for all the wonderful videos this year! I don’t find the sakuras very reliable in general, whereas the cheap ones I bought from costco never seem to stop. I do like the 🌹 gold effect in one of the sakuras though.
Use a lighter to heat up the nib of the non-flowing pens. Unless the ink is totally dry, that should help get them flowing.

I do have some Prisma colors , as well as Castle. the rest are mitch mash, but I do
have alot.
I'd love to get the good ones but being on SSI, and a widow, I really don't have the extra.

Have you tried scentos (scentded) gel pens? I've been watching all your vids in gel pens (and learned how they dry out, are pressurised etc) and I was kinda shocked to find my nieces set which has been left uncapped for months still work

Can anyone recommend a good champagne gold pen, marker, or paint please? Lots of bright yellow golds and antique golds but not very many light/creamy golds.
oh nice...ya finally used some Tanmit...i love my Tanmit but the only knock on them is the refills are like a dollar store cheap....whereas the ink cartridge that is already in the pens are great and last a good bit...the refills don't and that's unfortunate bc it's done on purpose it seems...unless mine were just bad but kinda hard to believe, try out some refills and see what happens...still a hell of a set of pens
I don't have any Uni-Ball or Sakura's gel pens. I like the Pentel Sparkle Pop pens. Actually I ordered the Signo white gel pens from Amazon and they were suppose to be deliverted by Dec 11th and they never came, message kept saying late, so I just cancelled. It seems that the postal service is way behind in delivering, I have three different purchases from 3 different companies and its already 3 weeks, all packages are saying they are going to be late and you cant even get tracking info. I absolutely love the Bells coloring page you completed.
I suspect the issue may be that the mica has clumped up in the barrel.
Are you going to do a follow up to the Zebra doodler'z?
Do all these gel pens use metal as the ball?with all the advancements in material science maybe we should try different materials for the balls such as silicon or varying mixtures of plastics.
What camera system (app) do you use, please?
Hi Jennifer - I bought the gold and silver Pentel Sunburst Metallic pen set this time last year. I used my gold about 2 times and used my silver about 2 or 3 times. I just checked and my silver still works well. My gold does not work at all, and I unscrewed it and the gold is completely dried out. Wonder if there is an issue with their gold? I should have checked before now, but it appears there may be some issue with the gold. Hopes this helps. Take care!

The best silver pen I've used is Molotow liquid chrome, but I would warn it works better on some types of paper than others
I’ve heard good things about that pen. I thought it was more like a paint pen and WOW is it expensive! That’s the main reason I haven’t bought it yet.
@@ColoringBliss You are completely correct!😉 I had a brain fart and mixed mediums up. I use different markers, gel and paint pens and sticks in non conventional ways and didn't think enough before commenting. It is fantastic and can get in a fine tip(1mm) but too expensive to buy on the regular, I bought one as a gift to myself...lol🤓

My big issue with most of the Pentels is that if you get anywhere near water, it affects the penstroke no matter how long it has been applied. I prefer Sakura and Uniball for water- resistance. Because I do a lot with watercolors, my pens have to be water resistant.
Yes...water resistant nature is important for a lot of artists. I did do a piece in my sketch book recently where I used the sparkle pop pens and then activated the ink with a water brush and got the most beautiful wash of colors.

My favorite metallics are my Reaeons, they don't scratch easily like the Gelly Rolls. And they don't get that kinda silvery overall look when you look at closely.
Sparkle Pops are good but the blue, purple and green are only good for smaller areas. Yes the Sparkle Pops and Sunburst and dual metallics seem to be the same.
I'll have to try the uniball ones.
But I still say the Reaeons as for metallics are best. They cover in one coat, no glitter, no scratch, nice shine.

I’ve tried to replicate this but have to wonder if you’re printing with a laser printer. Mine keeps ending up with the black ink smearing. It’s still pretty but looks dirty in some spots.
You are right! I used a laser printer. Inkjet printers can cause issues with our coloring from time to time, but so can laser. If you look closely, the lettering at the end is not crisp black anymore because the baby wipe removed some of the ink.

Those are nice but I find the absolute best pens when it comes to achieving a saturated metallic finish are the Sakura Pen-Touch Paint markers which come in four different widths. Check them out if you haven't. You probably won't go back. : )

I have the sunburst ones. My gold is the same, very yellow, hardly any sparkle, doesn't work on black paper. I was disappointed.

I have the sunburst pens and no the gold does not perform well. Very yellow on white with hardly any gold shimmer, doesn’t show up on black hardly at all. Not just you, lovely lady
I think your gold pen is defective. You should test Pentel's customer service.
I love the silver Pentel Sunburst Metallic , but the gold pen just doesn’t flow right. Coincidence?

I don’t like the type that is like a paint and blocks out the black lines.
Uniball and Sparkle Pop still top the list for me.
No Signo gold or silver pens? Really? They are FAR better than the Gelly Roll metallics and they flow better than the Pentel. Unlike the Gelly Roll, the Signo shows up WELL on dark paper. They also do very well on top of dark ink, so if you put down some black marker and then need gold dots, those are the go-to pens.

She said a different Uni-ball name. Not Signo’s.She said Uni-ball Impact’s.
I bought the Uni-ball multi-colored fine points in the Signo’s. The Metallic Red, Blue,Copper, Silver ,Gold, and Green. I was hoping they would be as juicy as the Signo’s Broad’s. They weren’t even close. They were scratchy and thin. Exactly like Uni-ball Signo’s classic rainbow colors in fine points. The fine point in Signo’s don’t impress me. However, I ADORE the Signo’s Broad’s in the Gold and Silver.
