I bought this tent mostly based on your excellent review. I was replacing a 20 year old Hillary dome tent that had served us incredibly well. We love this Coleman cabin tent. True 6ft center height. Huge windows. Zippers operate smoothly. Sturdy construction and heavy duty material. 2 big pockets inside plus lantern hanger. Fits me and my wife with a inflatable queen mattress plus two chairs and small table and all our gear. It's also a great looking tent. We love it.
I'm glad to hear it! I had an old Hillary 10p dome tent I got from Sears years and years ago. A storm finally came through and snapped a fiberglass pole. Good tent for many moons though.
Love your videos. I’m old now, but I remember going camping with my Girl Scout troop. We 11 and 12 year olds had those old, heavy, army green, canvas tents that we had to set up by ourselves in groups of 4 Girl Scouts per tent. They were gosh awful heavy, and they stunk. After about an hour of yelling, bossing, screaming, biting nails, hair pulling, “taking breaks,” and crying, we usually got the tent up. ( Our scout mothers were up in the cabin while we were out “in nature”. ) Good memories. Tents have certainly improved since the 1960s. ; )
When I was little my dad had one similar to that. And yes, you're right it did stink. It didn't matter how long that thing aired out!
Great review. I will say I own this tent and after some extensive usage have a little to add: I live in CO and we get some odd weather at times including freak snow storms in spring and autumn. This tent does very well in even torrential rain and snow way above what it is designed to be used in. Had a blizzard one time, this tent didn't even flinch. But, heavy rain or snow does expose its weakness, all that water proof material means it's not breathable, there is very little air flow inside if you have the windows all closed. In cold weather with 2 people inside it, you do get quite a bit of condensation inside. Those top 2 vents are not optional, they have to be open while you are inside of it. If the weather is bad enough to where you think you need to close them, then you do not want to be in the tent at all. Bring something to compensate for condensation, even a little kitty litter to wick moisture from the air helps loads.
2) While it is not rated for it, I have had this tent up in 50+ mph winds, and it handled it like a champ. You need the guy lines in anything above 10 mph, but it actually did way better than I expected. I was expecting it to collapse, it did not. I was expecting a rip in a seam or at the guy points, there was not.
3) The little hanging hook point is not great. I only use it for the lightest of LED lanterns, anything more than a half pound in weight and it creates a weak point where water collects on top and starts to eventually seep in. Really heavy lanterns can also cause water to come in those top vents. So use that attachment point with caution.
Other than that, this is the best tent I have ever owned. I love it and it really does set up in just about a minute as shown.
Nice to know about the center lantern. I usually an inflatable lantern that is super light so I haven't experienced the sag. I agree with the need for vents though, especially when it rains.
I have been eyeing up this tent for the past couple of years but have always hesitated due to reviews mentioning condensation and water ingress
Whilst I appreciate the review, especially as it was left up overnight which a lot of reviews don't do, I was intrigued by the fact she said, there's no condensation on the inside, there was never going to be much as there was nothing in the tent creating any heat,
is always better to have a review like yours where the tent has been used in real world situations
Thanks for you information on this particular tent
@@johnclark448 Glad it was useful to you. Yeah, the condensation is it's biggest issue. But there are a lot of things you can use to mitigate it. The last camping trip I went on with it just this last Labor Day weekend, we just left 1 window cracked a bit the entire trip. No issues, and even in light rain we got no moisture inside. If your tent has condensation issues in it, try bringing a ziploc baggie with kitty litter and opening it up in the tent. Seriously helps a lot.
@@jordanbeard6687 interesting suggestion.
@@johnclark448 this is a very valid point.
I used on of these my 6 years as a BSA scout master. We camped once a month. I had several better and more expensive tents, but I used this one most weekends because of the speed, and quality. It saw a lot of use and was always waterproof and never failed me in a storm.
We used this tent in the midwest and Western states on road trips. I love it!!!
Thanks for reviewing this tent! I appreciate the 24 hour test in the rain (and snow!). I also likes that you timed the setup, staking, and staking the guy lines. THANKS!!!
You're welcome. Hope his helps you make a decision!
Great review! By that I mean you gave it a real test in real world conditions. You thoroughly explained its features and your advisories regarding staking it down and wind strength were timely bits of information for anyone considering purchasing the tent. Well done!
Thanks so much. I appreciate it. The snow was an unexpected test but it performed well. The weather in the Northwoods of Wisconsin is unpredictable this time of year.
I've used this tent in Death Valley and just like you said, HEED the wind warning. Tent did not fair well in high winds. What you can do temporarily is drop each corner down a peg to lessen the wind push. That way your tent is 3 feet tall and not 6 feet. Really does help in a pinch.
That actually I'd a great idea! I would not want to use this tent in areas without wind block, that's for sure!!!
This is how all tent reviews should be... thank you!
You're so welcome 🙏
This is a great looking tent and you also did a great review in it as well. It caught my eye because it’s not too expensive and super easy to set up. Perfect size for myself, my wife and son and our dog. My big concern was that I have read it leaks in rain. Well after watching your video and seeing how well it did in rain AND snow I’m pretty convinced. Also no moisture inside as well.
If you want added protection they do make a rainfly you can purchase additionally. I believe the link is in the description.
Perfect timing! I need a big car camping tent and you did a GREAT JOB covering any concerns!! Really well done.
This one is great for road tripping too! So easy to set up, that's why we bought it.
Don't buy it. I purchased it, tested it and had water inside the TENT!
Agreed, I purchased it based on this video and it did not perform as stated here. Walls were very wet during the rain.
This tents a game changer, I go camping constantly, it is by far the best tent I've ever owned. 4 years strong so far no leaks, tears, and its lasted through some wicked storms. Great review
Thanks for the feedback. Do you use the additional rainfly that you can buy or just right out of the box as is?
@@LoneCrowAdventures for the first 2 years I just used what came in the box but I eventually bought a fly for it for the end of the year trips, definitely helps with the heavy rain.
I was thinking about getting one but so far haven't needed one. Thanks!!!
Wonderful, can't thank you enough for this genuine, detailed review.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Once again, thank you for your review. I watched your review on the Dark Room Tent. I'm grateful that you reviewed this model. Have a blast and be safe.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback!
You are a very talented reviewer. Congratulations on being so clear!
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback 😊
Just bought this tent after this review! Thanks! :D
Good luck! Let me know how it turns out!!!!
I've been looking into buying this tent as I'm a LARPer in New England (and weather up here is always nuts) I'm SO glad I found this review. I absolutely found my new tent!
Good luck. Let me know how it works!
@@LoneCrowAdventures hey quick question. How's the taking down and repacking on this? I HATE repacking tents because they never fit in the bag again. Did you have trouble with this one?
What a fantastic review. I'm buying this tent after your review. Thank you!
Let me know how it works out. I'd love to hear about your adventures!
Just bought one and I think I'm gonna love it! You definitely hit on all of my concerns. Great review!
Great! Let me know how it works out for you!!!!
Congrats on your purchase. What is your experience after all of these months?
Best practical review I have seen in a long time on a tent. Great job!! I will certainly buy.
Glad I could help!!!
Thanks, my car camper partner and I were just this morning wondering about this particular tent and the water proofing... ❤️👏
I was thoroughly impressed with this tent. Now their is an additional rainfly you can purchase separately for added protection for those instances when you are expecting prolonged heavy rain (like over an entire weekend) but I've never found that I needed it. I believe the link to that attachment is in the video description. Let me know how it goes!
Hi, FYI, I'm not sure if you have an older or just a better model but I'm currently sitting in rain in Starved Rock State Park. It's staked out properly but the walls and seams are seeping. We're just sitting here cracking up and enjoying ourselves but your viewers should know to be aware of this. Thanks!
Thank you for reviewing this tent, the rating and the great quality you mentioned is all true, I actually bought this tent a couple weeks ago and I love it.
I'm glad to hear that! Good luck out there!!!
@@LoneCrowAdventures I have to tell you the bad news unfortunately, I slept in my tent last night with the rain fly on it and it rained, few minutes later I see water coming through all around the stitching that connects the floor piece to to the walls of the tent, I have about 1 galon or more of rain water in the tent. I noticed the this particular stiching all around near the floor doesn't have that transparent sealing tape and I wonder if this is a factory defect or they all with this flaw. I guess I can repair it but I'll see. I cant return it since I bought it from an auction
I purchased this tent or myself and set it up in my backyard. I did attach the rainfly, but I did not stake it down. It rained the entire day. And I did notice leaks around the perimeter on the bottom. It appears that the bottom black half got so saturated with rain that it leaked through. I do like the tent because it is very easy for me to set up and is comfortably roomy.
Hmmm. Might want to add some waterproofing to those bottom seams if you're getting leaks.
Don't forget this tent has a rain fly you can buy extra to make it even more water proof. My first solo camping trip I used a 6 person Tee Pee tent. It did leak a little. Plus it rained both nights I camped. Thank you for your review.
You're welcome 😊
Thank You for your excellent review. I recently purchased this tent because of your review and a few other reviews. Yours was the best of them. My 25 year old Gander Mountain Dome tent is worn out. Mainly broken zippers.
I'm glad to hear you're liking it so far!
Just went camping with the family and my Kelly didn’t held up to the rain and we were soaked. I had to get rid of the tent because it was DONE ✅. I couldn’t believe it. This tent looks pretty promising, thank you for the awesome review.
This one is amazing 👏
Hi! Great comments! i am from Brazil and I just bought this tent because of your video! thanks
Good luck with it! You'll have fun!
i just found your channel today as i was doing research for tents, and i really loved your channel and style of presentation, very good, informative and enjoyable videos.
Thank you so much!!!!
For a 3-season tent, it did amazing in a 4- season condition... and, I wouldn't call that "light snow" It stuck and it looked like it was layered ; it just wasn't blizzard conditions, but I lived in Northern Nevada for a few years, and that wasn't light snow... I am really impressed by this tent... You didn't even have the rain fly on it... I know the fly for this tent doesn't go to the ground, but it you could make one or find one that would ; this could possibly withstand some wind storms too... This is why Coleman has been around for over 100 years.... Thanks so much for this great review... On another note... could you possibly find some tents that could be used for everyday "emergency" or homeless situations that alot of us are having to face these days... It would take a tent that would be able to go up and down quickly and easily; and often, as much as every day; be 4-season, probably have a vestibule ( for gear and/or bathroom/ toilet area...).and hold up through it all, , as well as pack away small and lite. Which design/ construction would be best ( dome, pop-up; teepee; cabin, and materieal, etc) I can't express to you how important this is now-a-days with all that is happening in our country and around the world.... People are having to redefine exactly what "homelessness" really means... or, exactly what makes a "home".... thanks again for your honesty and integrity and God Bless.You.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I appreciate it greatly
Your reviews are very well done. Down to earth and real 🇨🇦🍻👍
Thanks so much I really appreciate it 🙏
I just ran across your channel. Im a little older lady looking for easy set up durability and value. This tent fits the bill for me as i sont back pack camp so much anymore. However this is exactly what im looking for to car camp with my dog. Im about to run to walmart only 2 left. I cant wait to get set up fall camping in the south is my FAVORITE time. Love YOU. New subscriber gonna binge your channel
They do also make a rainfly you can order for this tent. The link is in the description. Pretty solid tent. I've used it year round. This video was early March I think. Fits a cot nicely and room for a pet bed too for your Woof Baby!
Great review. I spent 4 days at Fisheating Creek in SWFL last week when our first cold front came thru the last nite we were there. Went from 75 to 32 in about 5 hours which is something for a Florida Cracker. Had my Ozark Trails instant tent ( Have only used in fair weather) Between all the rain leakage and wind, it proved to be a real piece of crap. Will be getting the Coleman that I should have bought in the first place.
Yep the Coleman won't let you down!!!
Just got the 10 person. Thank you so much!
Good luck, let me know how it works for you!!!
Just got one last week. Enjoyed your review. Very helpful 👍
Good luck out there!
Thank you so much! This has helped me make my tent purchase decision. Great review!
Hope you enjoy it!
rain turning to snow. nice performance. it didn't let water get to where the ice would open the seams. now i have to look at this one over the sun dome.
I personally prefer this tent over the sun dome but I've been through some serious storms in the sun dome too! Both are great tents!
great review. i had a coleman 4 person tent that lasted 5 years and i was looking to upgrade to a bigger one. this one will be my next purchase!
They also have a supplemental rainfly you can buy too. I believe the link is in the video description. You won't be dissatisfied! Thanks for checking it out!
Great demonstration of the features of this tent.

Great review. I just ordered this for my summer fall tent. I use a small 4 season for winter. Keep the great reviews a coming .
Thanks I sure will try!!!!
Good one. If I didn't have so many tents I certainly would consider this one. Thanks.
I've got a tent addiction problem too!!!!
Super helpful review, thank you! I just ordered this tent based on your review--it was for sale at $109 (woot) and I'm super excited to try it out. Thanks again!
That is a steal!
Yes, very good deal! I purchased it for the same price and the optional rainfly accessory as a secondary protection barrier from the elements. I received the items this same day!
I have a four person Coleman tent and have used it in primitive camping and camping in state parks. Stayed two nights recently in Uwharrie Forest and it rained and I slept very good! No leaks! The only issue I have is I can never get it packed up small enough to fit in the original box. So I simply take it down and wrap it up in the tarp I put under it, bungee cord it and put it in the back of my car.. Hope to use it a lot more.
I just leave the spider part hanging out the top of the bag as well.
Love the fast forward rock music!
Lol thanks!!!!
I appreciate you reviewing stuff on the level a family would use. There's a lot of reviews out there that focus more on the avid outdoors person who will use a $300 tent, but i will not.
I agree, there seems to be a gap of what the average person actually uses.
Great review! I have been eying this and thanks to your video I know a lot more about it. Thanks!
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help!!!
Thanks for a great review. Been a subscriber of yours for a while now and have been thinking about getting one of these. Keep up the great work. -Randy
Thanks for stopping by to check it out. Good luck with your tent!
Cool.. I just ordered 2 of them.. can't wait to go camping
Sweet! Hopefully you're going to have a blast! Let me know how it works out!!!!!
It was no surprise that you would be testing in the rain then come back in the snow. LOL The tent dd great! I am glad you mentioned the heavy winds not to set up. Great review! be well and Trail on!
Yeah this tent actually surprised me. I thought I might have to rip on it a bit but I was totally satisfied. It's our new road trip tent!
I have the orange 6 man version of this which I purchased 3 years ago. It’s my alternative if I camp alone instead of my Napier 8400 suv tent. Some rain in the bottom if I don’t have the tarp underneath just tight. I had to replace one of the bolts in the joint on the top since I use it frequently.
Also in many cases you have to purchase the rain fly separately. Which I got off of Amazon. Worth the money in space and quick set up
I have not got the rainfly but so far have not needed it.
Thank you!! Im purchasing one based on your reciew
Good luck. Let me know how it works out
Awesome review! So many reviews are not tested in the real world or you get fake reviews that lie about performance. Thank You again for the great review.

Love your video and thanks for posting!

Fantastic review. Thank you wanted to see if it was waterproof before I brought one. Top notch 👌🏻👍🏻😎
They also do make an additional rainfly for it which you can add if you are expecting a downpoor weekend. I think I put a link to the additional rain fly in the description of the video. I personally have not needed it and this tent has held up very well in weather for me! Thanks for stopping by!

Hey, I just bought a kelty tallboy 4 tent; because it was the same eureka tent that I owned 30 yrs ago & my husb & I travelled cross-country on a 900 cc honda bike & trailer with. Unfortunately; I thought I could set it up by myself, since we setup it up 50 times at least in rain, snow; a great tent; but not even close! It is definately a 2 person setup only. It is only10 lbs, with a case & removable rain tarp & I love it, but no longer married. If coleman has a 3/4 person of this; I'll be sending the kelty back; this one, I can setup solo & my boxer dogs will take up the rest of the floor space. :)
I'm 5"2 and I can easily set this one up myself!
They make a 4 person version of this tent also.
I love this channel !
Thanks so much for the praise!
Thanks for your review!
Your welcome. I appreciate it
I love love love mine. Ordered a rainfly but it didn’t fit, so hopefully I’m good if it ever rains. I did spray with camp dry. The thing is sturdy and saves a lot of energy with the camping experience.
It's awesome. We use this on road trips when we have to set up and tear down quickly to get going back on the road.
@@LoneCrowAdventures We are wondering about the larger 8 or 10 person version for when we take kids along. Are they just as easy and quick, and as sturdy?

Got 4person ver. Can’t wait to try
Hope you like it!
Hello thanks for the video I'm wondering if I can Able to use this tent in winter season? Like 20 degress weather ?
I bought the green tent version of this model. With 3 mins of not even heavy rain, water started pouring in from the top and all sides.
Hmmmm. That doesn't sound good. Send it back. An obvious defect
They're recommending 2-4 man versions if this model for wildland fire spike camps as your ‘budget Catoma’. Thanks for proving it’s still a viable choice.
It's an excellent tent! I love it!
I went with this 6 person version for camp so I can stand up and get my gear on. The 4 person is only a slightly smaller footprint and you can't fully stand up in it. Gramping it in spike camp!
@@Colbyzmom being able to stand up makes such a difference!!!!
Great review, might want to have mentioned the separate Rainfly for around $30-40 on Amazon. But perfect wether review I just ordered 4 Man for Memorial Day Weekend VT and can’t wait!
Excellent! Good luck with it!!!!
I thought it was ridiculous that the rain fly didn't come with the tent or at least an option on Coleman's website. I bought the fly for ours. It turns this tent into a beast.
I have had this tent for 9 years
It is super easy to set up and not that hard to take down.
This tent is not good in the rain.
Condensation really leaks through this tent.
A humid night and this tent is dripping drops of water and is wet like it was raining.
Nice review. Thank you
Thanks so much for popping by to check it out!
Trying to camp with my partner and a large dog has been complicated. We do a lot of 3 day kayaking trips to the coast and I can’t keep affording hotels, but I also need to sleep or I am not a fun (or nice) person. The problem is that the nervous pooch paces, and when she paces I stay awake. It’s ridiculous but I’ve solved the problem with a doggy cot between our people cots. Now our 3 cot set up ends up being just under 7feet long and 7.5 feet wide. My partner’s ancient dome tent was 10x12 and I did end up tripping and bending the dog cot, which I then had to replace. Ugh! The tent also got ripped and a pole bent so it needs a replacement. I’m really stuck on how much space around the cots I need to not trip over everything and break stuff. I’m leaning towards to 6 person cabin tents, especially the instant setup, but I wonder how a smaller footprint cabin tent would compare to a larger footprint dome tent. If a 10x12 foot dome tent was the right size, but barely, would a 9x10 cabin tent also work? Any advice? I’m afraid if I move up too much, the tent might not fit in the camping sites. California coastal camp grounds are not large. Plus, I work 4 looooonngg days for those 3 days off and I am super tired so I want to save all my energy for the water not putting up a tent, and some of the 8 person tents seem to start to get a bit complicated. I sure would appreciate any advice you or anyone might have!
I might actually look at a tunnel style of tent that has more room to walk around. I think in the 6p instant coleman you'd be a bit cramped with two cots and a dog cot. They do make an 8p version of the Coleman instant cabin tent which is what I would go with if I were you.
A great review on cabin tents. We wonder though...would a rain fly be helpful? Thanks. Liked and subscribed.
Yes, they do make a rainfly which you can purchase additionally. There is a link in the description for the rain fly.
Also remember you can snap your poles tiring them off. U can run blankets over your tent to stay warm and it also doesn't hurt to use nail stakes
If you put blankets on the the tent it would negatively impact condensation management. I would not recommend this.
Been using this tent for years and love it. I kinda broke the zipper on the bottom & I'm not sure if its still fixable?
What happened to the zipper?
Loved the video. I watched 4 reviews on this tent and for some reason no one showed the takedown and pack up. Does this tent pack up nicely and actually fit back into the bag?
It fits back into the bag pretty well. I leave the spider disc thing just out of the unzipped part of the bag most of the time because it's faster. If there is moisture on the tent it's harder to get in the bag for some reason but all in all not bad!
I've just spend a few days in this tent and I'm not in complete agreement with the glowing reviews. The rainfly allows rain to pour into the tent via the front door. The door opening is further out than the fly. Also, I have another Coleman tent with a continuous zipper for the front door, which, after this experience, would be superior than the two zippers that meet at the bottom, just another place for rain to come in. I'll apply a larger patch where those two zippers come together and rig up something to protect the door from the rain. I read reviews on Coleman's site and the rain fly appears to be the biggest shortcoming. Having said that, the set up was pretty easy (the poles are torqued that make the pulling the tent taunt difficult, maybe after using, they'll straighten out) and the walls seem fairly impervious to the rain. Plenty of room for me, my junk, and my dog. I'm a 60 year plus camper so not unfamiliar with camping in various weather conditions.
I will agree with the rainfly downfall. If there is windy it can blow the rainfly off or blow water up underneath the rainfly so it's important to make sure sides of tent are facing wind direction instead of front or back.
good stuff
Have had this a couple years and recently used it 2 of the last 4 weekends - different weather at each camp. First weekend, in North Texas, it was 92° in the afternoon, but a cold front came thru with a nasty storm at 3am. Held up to the winds very well, but I noticed some water seeping in on one of the lower corners and along a window seam - perhaps a result of 2 years of use? Other than that, it did great, and for the most part, stayed dry. 2 weeks later at a camp in the Texas Hill Country, we only got up to 74° on a sunny day and dropped to 40° at night. We had the windows shut bc of the chilly air, and even with the top vents open, we got a lot of condensation on the walls and roof - so much dripping.
Any suggestions to prevent or at least reduce the amount of condensation we experienced?
Leave one of the windows cracked a bit snd make sure the vents are opened up.
Just thinking out aloud; Would a flap over the door be helpful to keep the rain water and/or snow out when opening the door?
It would be if you secured it in such a way as to create sort of a stopped awning.
I try to find good and bad reviews of most 'important' purchases. I'm currently looking to see what tents are available. I've had this tent since 2013 and a clip on one of the legs has started acting up - i could still camp tonight if needed. Otherwise, the tent has been great, i put it over a cheap tarp every time i set it up to protect the floor from rocks, etc.. I'm in Arizona and camp at least monthly yet my tent rarely sees rain. Typically I don't know it has rained until I wake up and go outside to find everything wet. We do however get wind, lots of it. Guy'd out properly, this tent easily puts up with heavy wind. For 9 years (2022 now) this tent has been a champ and while I am looking to replace it, I can't find anything i like better.
I love this tent for road trips. I also agree with guiding it out as it does catch some wind due to its height.
I also saw the video you made on the Coleman Sundome.I'll be camping at the California redwoods and am a first time tent camper.which do you recommend for a newbie like me? This one or the Coleman Sundome?
I'd honestly go with the Sundome as a new camper. More versatile for beginners and less expensive too!
It's in my shopping cart on Amazon due to your review. I think I'll get the rain fly although it seemed you had no trouble. No-one in my family likes camping so if I go ill probably go solo or with my church campers so I need it to be easy! :-)
Yep, this is about as easy at it cones. I can't vouch from personal experience about the rainfly but have heard very good things about it! Good luck!
I'll be sure to have a little "exhaust" fan blowing out of the top vent to reduce condensation. That might be the moisture people are finding in their tents.
Or simply just leave a window unzipped a bit! That should take care of it!
@@LoneCrowAdventures True Unless it's raining since the rain fly doesn't cover the windows. I think the windows open from the side upward.
Yes, that is a very valid point 👉
I have the 4 person model but I want the 6 person. In your opinion is the material for this tent thicker than other tents in its class?
This is the 6 person model and I love this!!!!
