  • What ever happened to the beach at Oregon Ridge Park? Come along with me while I explore a part of Oregon Ridge Park that use to be a quarry then became a public beach. Let me show you around this area. As I go along I will show a few things that give clues to the beach and I will also share some old pictures along the way of what the beach, bath house, and beach house use to look like. I will fill you in on some history of this area. I will also go into why this public beach closed down permanently due to a tragedy and then some water health issues. This video was filmed at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville Maryland on 2/4/2020.

I took a school trip to this Park as an end of school year celebration. I loved it and we played on that beach all day long and I remember i and my school mates loved it!! Its so sad that nothing is the same now! I used to go to Millford mills Swim club too up on liberty rd and that's not there anymore! Lots of fun things are gone. Even the secret fishing and swimming holes in Linthicum and other places are now gone. Its sad! and everything that is remaining cost an arm to get into because the county or state takes it over. I'll always remember my Oregon ridge trip!

Oregon Ridge is where I first learned to swim, and where I later got my Red Cross Junior Lifesaving certificate.

I was out there today for the first time in several years and had no idea that the beach area had closed, much less the reason why. No indication that a beach had ever been there. RIP Dennis Kemp. Thanks for the very informative video.

Wow I used to pack my picnic supplies and my kids and I used to head there every weekend! I was just planning a return which made me stumble upon this week. Had no idea the beach had closed.

At one time they offered membership to families. Our family went there often as a kid.

If you walk up the hill there’s a whole trail that takes you on the otherside or by the old ski resort

Given how clear the water looks, I wonder if you had gotten a drone out over it, if it would show the actual quarry portion more clearly?

Hi Jacob , I live very close to the park and remember the incident with the boy well, I believe it was his birthday as well. In addition to the drowning and quality of water at times as you mentioned there had been some sexual assaults as well in the wooded areas near the lake, all which led to its demise.
Thank you for the video it was very interesting.
    Looking forward to your next.

Once you gave the reasons...a kid dying...bacteria...makes it just too expensive to run. Liability alone would kill them financially. It makes complete sense to close it down in that case, no matter how nostalgic we are about it.

FreeRoam Baltimore It’s a pretty big park. A little more then a 1000 acres. I believe they have about 16 miles worth of hiking trails too!
