  • Before it was beautiful Oregon Ridge Park, in this area north of Baltimore City you could find a ski slope, and before that, an iron furnace. An existing pond here may have been constructed by German POWs during World War II. Join us and the president of the Oregon Ridge Nature Center Council, Dr. Ralph Brown, to discover this park’s layers of history, its natural beauty, and the plans to ensure its vitality. Thanks for watching and see you next week with another video!
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Every week, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and RUclips channel.

I see the Shipley name at the bottom right of the map, not a direct descendant, but I have seen part of the house as it overlooks Interstate 83. My direct descendant, Charles Shipley, had a very interesting house in Baltimore City, Disney's Haunted Mansion has cited the Shipley Mansion as inspiration. He and his second wife are buried in Green Mount Cemetery.
