The Highs gas station has a cow as their mascot because at one time it was one of Maryland's local dairy store chains. They had their own milk and ice cream brands along with lots of convenience items too, sort of a precursor to 7-11. Not many left now. The "Beer & Wine" place across the street used to be Elmo's Dinner. Great breakfast and lunch spot and good root beer floats. The Boring Fire Dept has been replaced and is no longer used...consolidated with another nearby department in a differernt location.
I didn't know bamboo grew in Maryland. I guess it's everywhere. On the way down you could take in scenic Savannah and Charleston if you have the time. Some beautiful cities going back.
Even though Adam was just in this area on Hilton Head Island, it would be nice to visit the Lowcountry again. Esp. if the weather is warmer than last time. Cold beach sand just isn't right & requires a do-over.
I wouldn't have expected to see such a large Bamboo "forest" in MD, nice surprise. I've only experienced MD on the hectic highway system - definitely enjoyed your calm, peaceful filming of this area. Your backroad videos are by far my most favorite - what you show and how you film it with a mix of telling about the area and simply allowing for the sound experience of the scenery have such a calming effect on me. Thanks for another good video! Can't wait to see where your travels lead you as you make your way home.
I love your channel because you do a little bit of everything- like you said, you do baseball, theme parks, travel, strange roadside attractions, etc. My personal favorites are the travel vlogs but I watch them all. Thanks for all you do, Adam!
I hate to tell you but that "old school beer and wine shop" that you pointed out is actually relatively new. The road was never that wide, the parking lot was in the front and that was Elmo's which was a diner. It's specifically served breakfast and lunch. I ate there every day for seven years.
As a longtime resident of greater metropolitan Boring whose roots go back several generations, I have seen the town has slowly lose its identity. The Post office is still there, but only open 2 hours a day. The fire department was consolidated with Arcadia a couple years ago, and the building and surrounding land is now owned by a construction company. A new firehouse just opened just up the road about a mile north of the Highs you gassed up at, hopefully they will revive the tradition of the Bull Roasts and Oyster Suppers that the old Boring Fire department used to hold. The Post office used to be part of an old general store that operated until the early 1990s, when its elderly owner passed away. Arcadia is another quaint little town just up the rail line that still has a full time post office. The combined Boring and Arcadia fire departments, now known as the Upperco Volunteer Fire department has a fair grounds at Arcadia that hosts things like Bluegrass music festivals, hamfests, demolition derbies, and 2 antique farm equipment shows every year, along with other events. The biggest event of the year is the 4 day Maryland Steam historical Society's annual Steam Engine and Tractor show, which is held normally the third weekend of September and attracts thousands of people to see the old antique farm equipment, including old steam tractors and stationary engines put through their paces. Boring used to have a smaller show in June, but it petered out about 20 years ago. In my grandparent's time the train stopped in both villages, my grandmother took the train into Baltimore as a teenager to work in a defense plant during World War 1. My grandmother also helped out with those "Pot Luck" dinners well into her 80's. My dad was a volunteer fireman from the late 1940's into the mid 1950's, and my grandparents had a small dairy farm on land visible from the post office. About a year before Grandma went into a nursing home at the age of 91, one of the local TV stations did a piece on Boring and gave her an interview. Nice job on the video, I wanted to provide a little more history on the area.
I love seeing the low key parts of the country in videos like this. I went to college in Maryland and know how much farmland and rural land exists around the state.
Good Morning/ Afternoon/ Evening Mr Woo! I was literally laughing out loud when you were describing all the “boring” places. I was so intrigued by this I had to look up the origin of the name. The town Boring was named after a post man named David Boring. The railroad company asked the town, which at the time was named “Fairview” to change it’s name because there were multiple “Fairviews” along their line. Thus they decided on Boring. Glad you are taking the time to enjoy yourself. I think these videos are just as entertaining as the Disney ones :)
The area where I was born (York, Pa) and, for the most part, raised (Darlington, MD). I had no idea as a child how small town it was because our area always celebrated all the holidays and had great parades. Education was stressed so the schools played an important role in our development. I roamed the woods and fields all by myself. Just the landscape makes it interesting to me…not boring (except Boring, Maryland).
@@Njordall This video had me recalling those days. For a little girl on her own for many hours, I guess it was ideal. I roamed the country roads and, if I got hungry in the summer, blackberries and blueberries were along most banks. The heat of the sun would cause tar bubbles on the roads and I loved popping them with my toes. The trees had these huge, strong vines that permitted hours of fun swinging until they finally broke. Beautiful country actually.
@@Njordall Thank you for the compliment! I have been told that often but usually at a time when I have just finished reading something by James Michener, James Lee Burke, or Stephen King. Humbling.
Another great back road video Adam.. I went to a Bigfoot museum in Boring Oregon.. and thought who would ever name a town boring and thanks to you I now know there is another on the east side of Americana as well..😂 Happy Easter
Amazing what some peace and serenity in a woods filled area can do. I enjoy seeing the different types of barns throughout the United States. Very interesting.
Good Morning Adam, Happy Easter. Personally for me this is the content that you create that is superior and greatly appreciated by me as one of your subscribers.
Those Bamboo cane poles remind me of one of my childhood area we had adventures in… standing by the creek and hearing the birds singing was very peaceful… 🦜
Funny watching you get through that bamboo lol! Nice small towns I love it! I love backroad trips! You said that’s what you were going to do and you have been doing just that for the last 3 months loving this thank you Adam
It’s always nice seeing the countryside with you Adam because you make it fun and enjoyable and not at all boring plus usually going of the beaten path is so beautiful and one heck of a learning experience and I thank you for that also if i remember correctly you said at the beginning of the year that you were not going to make promises you basically said you are going to do whatever it is you to do and the viewers can watch or not and I really love that you have that mindset so no matter what you choose to do on your way back to Celebration I’ll embrace it 100% and enjoy it all the way back home have a safe trip back buddy now with that peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next awesome Adam the daily woo adventure peace ☮️ out also don’t forget to get a new pair of sunglasses
Tried living in Fla once. Lasted barely 4 months. This is what I missed the most. Ran back home.. there’s no place like home. This is Americana most other people dream of living around. History and peaceful comfort. Love 💕
I think I have a new favorite Adam The Woo episode…welcome to my neck of the woods in Maryland! The fire department in Lineboro where you started the video has a really nice haunted hayride/house every October that I attend
Adam I was not expecting to see my area in your videos! I live in Carroll County and Boring is only about 20 minutes from my home. Carroll County and Baltimore County back roads really are beautiful with all of the farm land and getting stuck behind farming equipment on the roads is definitely the norm in this area. I love it here - super quiet and we're pretty close to a lot of cities, Baltimore, Philly and DC for more excitement lol. Safe travels!
I’m from Baltimore County but family is in Carroll county. MD is beautiful but I’m in NC now and get to visit occasionally. I wouldn’t move back, but I miss my Crabs!!
The town of Boring, MD was named after Alexander F. Boring. He was the local Drunk and was known and loved throughout the area. It is actually pronounced 'Bow-Ring'.
What a delightful little town. I personally love watching grass grow, horses roam, and cows graze- while sitting on my front porch swing. Good times indeed❤️
I love this video- brings me back to when I lived in MD. If you have a chance visit downtown Frederick, MD-I lived there for 7 years- born and raised in NY and have been in TX for past 19 years- MD was the nicest place I’ve lived-beautiful topography and equidistant to Baltimore and Wash DC
Yes. I went to Hood College. After college I lived on 6th Street and 8th street. Market street is full with unique stores. I love the pop shoppe it has interesting glass bottle sodas. I get myself an old school root beer float and enjoy the nostalgia.

Maryland native here. I just got back from a hike today and found a similar looking patch of bamboo along the trail.
