Love the yammacats!! Always been a huge Yamaha four stroke fan. I still have my 2008 nytro with 20’000km on it. Runs as strong as the day it was bought. Never let me down.
When your a tiny company like Arctic Cat or a large corporation like Yamaha with a tiny snowmobile division what would you do to compete with giants like BRP or Polaris? I just bought a new Viper and am very excited to ride it. The new Sidewinder/9000 series is an engineering marvel. I doubt Yamaha Corp would have ever invested enough in their sled division to build this on their own and Arctic Cat would never had enough money. If Cat and Yamaha working together gives them the resources to compete against the big 2.
Brand loyalty & rivalry is all well & good, but at the end of the day, business is business. Yamaha could have stay a piano maker back in the 1960's & Arctic Enterprises could have gone away in 1982 when heavy debt caused corporate divestors to swoop in. Both companies have something to gain in this. That somethings is they are able to continue selling their products to us, the consumer. I worked at a dealership many years ago. We didn't make much on sleds, less than 15% margin, we kept the lights on selling apparel, accessories & parts. The service dept. held it's own but couldn't survive on it's own.
I only ride Polaris and Ski doo. That's 2 stoke's. But if I was gonna ride 4 stroke I'd ride a Yamaha all day. Plus there the only 4 stroke engine that you can put a turbo on and put well over 50,000km without a rebuild (on the engine, turbos a little bit different story)
Did you not get the guys point? Most of us with lives if even see a mistake or if can skip a few keystrokes will, cuz have better things to do like get laid and have friends. Oh incase your simple mind can't figure it out. "Cuz" means because.. lol In a thick british accent "Ya bloody TWAT"!!!
Maybe Yamaha can supply motors for the quad division...if you ask me that has always been A/C's ATV issues. They can't seem to build an engine that can produce the same power & HP torque that CanAm or even Polaris,Kawasaki can produce that's why they are so behind in the ATV market their frames, suspensions are excellent design it's the lack of power & torque that is killing this company's sales.
Rather have poor grammar then be a fuckin douche bag. Find you grammar Nazi's to are usually useless in everyday actual useful abilities and skills. If the world were about to end and could only save so many people. I'll bet my left nut spelling wont get u a seat on that boat. Fuckin Einstein for one sucked at grammar, so guess he was a fuckin idiot to huh..??
If arctic cat did that they would be cutting Their own throat. Cause at the moment what arctic cat has over yamaha is variety. Thats what keeps them competitive.
Yamaha needs to come back with their two-stroke triples that's what they were famous for not like these four strokes takes you 10 hours to change the spark plugs
when Arcyic cat went down hill when they stop using Suzuki motors, there some 30+ old cats sleds can beat newer today Yamaha,Ski doo,Polaris brand new sleds like 20-30+ old wildcat going 120 to 130 MPH . racing sleds now are still using 2 stroke motors. i just dont like 4 stroke sleds to me i feel like I'm riding a motorcycle on snow especially sound of 4 stroke sled motor . that why i feel like Yamaha is more a motorcycle company then a snowmobile company
I disagree with this. It's just the beginning phase of a merger. Call me a traditionalist. Its like putting a Chevy engine in a ford?? Really. Don't like it. Both manufacturers need to be stand alone. Creates better competition. An era gone by I guess.
+Ole Ironhead Arctic Cat was already renamed 4 times, went bankrupt once, moved headquarters. It's only natural that it will get acquired. Matter of time.
Ole Ironhead guy it’s not about nostalgia it’s about money, continuity if they can make a sled half the price and sell it for more then there always gonna do that
Ole Ironhead your right. Yamaha used to make so much better sleds. Like I'm talking about the reliable 700 and 600 triple so that's there sleds in between 1998 and 2003. They made so much better sleds and sold much more. Yamaha had it perfect before the four stokes.
+guy proulx Arctic Cat is very reliable (they have, however, suffered some hiccups on first-year-chassis', i.e. 2003 and 2012), our group has totaled 23 different Arctic Cats since the '80s, and only two have ever had any issues. The first being an electrical failure on a 2012 F1100na, and the second a bad oil filter gasket on a '16 ZR 7000, which caused the engine to dump all of it's oil on the trail (Yamaha's fault).
Starting the 4-stroke engine was never a problem on the Nytro, but was a problem on 2014-2016 vipers (Arctic cat's fault) I don't care, I rather twist my key once extra then having to split my fucking engine apart every 5000km to lube some bearings. I've had ski-doo and only tested polaris, now that I bought the Viper I know what i'm going to buy next time I want a 2-stroke. So in my eyes they both won!
Ben a cat rider for 20yrs n I think this is a last ditch effort to save arctic cat from going under. just in my area of Wisconsin almost all cat dealers closed there doors in the last 10yrs n everyone I have ridden with for the past 20yrs has switched from cat to ski doo n Polaris. Part of the problem with cat is they made a lot of really ugly sleds. Decided a while back my next purchase will be a Polaris
I agree with you Ryan about the sleds of old, but I have to say that I switched from a modern day Ski-doo (2015) to a 2016 ZR7000 Limited. That sled to me is a kick butt looking sled that does everything I would ever want to do on a snowmobile. The Yamaha 3 cylinder four stroke really motors along and the 'Cat chassis with those Fox QS3 shocks do an outstanding job. I hope the dealers eventually come back or at least maybe they will sprout new dealerships because it would be a shame to have the 'Cat name go away.
Had a viper. Never buy a Yamaha sled again. TANK. What was I thinking? What was Yamaha thinking. Heavier than the three competitors with a lot less power. My free ride will eat it for breakfast.
In my opinion, Suzuki engines are the best, they brought the 1000cc engine when the Thundercat came out and broke records. No other brands did this, im sure Suzuki would still be capable of doing this but i guess Arctic Cat don't want to put the money in to it. I'm disappointed with this, they just ditched Suzuki. For that reason if i would buy a brand new snowmobile, it would be a Ski-doo They have always used Rotax and are great engines and will most likely always be using them. Polaris is good too and don't have anything against Yamaha, they have made and continue to make good sleds but i dint think their engines belong in a Arctic Cat. I have a 98 Thundercat and will keep it for a long while and if i buy anymore Arctic Cat sleds, i will only buy the older ones with a Suzuki engine in it.
how is this a benefit for yamaha? now people can get the same engine and chassis as either a cat or yamaha, obviously since its practically the same sled with different graphics and logos, most are gonna go with the Cat. only way people would pick the yamaha over the cat is if youre one of the few yamaha die hards, and even then, most dont want to ride a Cat chassis.
this deal is in cats favor ' Yamaha always had bad rear suspensions and subpar chassis ' ' but good motors ' probably the most durable triples ever produced ' cat will only grow bigger and better from this deal !! yamaha needs cat more cat needs yamaha '
bad move for Yamaha, Arctic scrap is getting Yamaha technology and bulletproof engines, what is Yamaha getting in return, nothing they didn't already know, knowing that new Yammies are going to have Arctic scrap parts on them is a turn off for me, guess i'll keep riding my reliable old Yammies
they didnt know how to build a winning sled. slow, heavy, poor handling. how many championships has yamaha won? cat could have gone with honda engines and yahaha would be out of snowmobiling. cat would have gotten a better engine from honda built to cat specs.
SCROGY Cat would have used Honda specs cause they never could make an engine , there's a reason why they are now putting Yamaha engines in their sleds now, Cat could never build engines to last, always blowing up, the engine in the srx 700 was way more reliable than the engine in the F-7
+guy proulx I don't think you understand specs. The design specs would be cats, the manufacturing specs would be Honda. Either way, Yamaha could never build a competitive sled. Their designs were archaic.......that's why they left Sno Cross. They couldn't win. Their chassis were outdated and heavy. Meanwhile Cat and Ski Doo,were dominating Sno Cross and Cross country and still do to this day.. Yamaha went to four strokes because they needed a gimmick to sell their redesigned sleds. Reliability? I'll take the power and weight savings of a two stroke any day, thanks. And if Honda were building a two stroke it would be super reliable. Four strokes are for old men and ladies.
guy proulx You seem to be forgetting the new CTEC series of engines from arctic cat, fantastic/reliable two strokes. This only makes sense from a business standpoint anyways. Arctic cat builds great chassis and two strokes, yamaha builds the best 4 strokes, win win.
SCROGY You say that becaus you don't run chutes, take a wimpy 200hp turbo 800 up a big chute pinging and detonating the whole way up and now try it on a 300-400-500 reliable turbo Yamaha. When it comes to climbing, power wins.
You guys should do a updated version of this interview.
Love the yammacats!! Always been a huge Yamaha four stroke fan. I still have my 2008 nytro with 20’000km on it. Runs as strong as the day it was bought. Never let me down.
Nice to see 2 heavy rivals come together !
mot really
two of the best snowmobile making in one. ..
Best story in a long time, thank you snowtrax!
I believe that together they make an unbeatable combination! Bravo!
If they really wanted business they would make a basic low end sled. Nothing special, just something affordable for the average blue collar
Bring the PZ 480 back with the 540 Fan and air struts (TSS) air rear shocks 136 track, it would sale.
Like an Enticer .. snow Scoot
They already do. Any less and nobody would buy them. Your price range is covered by the used or prior model year holdover sleds.
$12,000 + for a sled is hard to justify, when your snow season only lasts a few months out of the year.
@@L2FlyMN $12,000 is below MSRP for all brands.
I’ll be spring ordering the riot 9000, the two working together is a good thing

So how long before I can't get parts for my Suzuki engine?
Just love the Suzuki tripples.
I’m ready, let’s pull back the curtain! Won’t hurt my feelings;)
Kawasaki bought one of the best Snowmobile Brands Sno Jet.. but there were some really lean years in the Snowmobile Industry ..
sounds like the articcat 9000 wont have the bulletproof suzuki turbo engine anymore... it's a shame really. such a good engine.
+droopstroops Yamaha engines are better anyways. 1 ride in a Cat with a Yamaha engine and youd forget all about the Slowzuki.
arctic cat isnt gona wana loose the most powerful sled title. a factory turbo yamaha engine will probably be seen in the near future.
Except now they're getting Yamahas new 180 hp engine for 2017
Gobucky36 not true at all
@@123devinzz1 yep, yamaha delivered with the new turboed 998 triple

they why is there a kymco motor in the lower level arctic cats
+1250cc It is a good engine that Arctic Cat actually uses it in the Wildcat Trail side-x-side.
right- the 700 kymco in the sport/trail is one of the best engines out there!!
I wish cat would put the phazer motor in the rr chassis
Kyle Powers Yamaha srx 700 motor would be great
They always use diff motors but arc is big cuz Textron tracker

Yamaha should make a deal with Arctic cat and get their 4000 6000 and 8000 2 strokes in it.
+Drake Parker why would they, Yamaha engines have always been the most reliable by far
+guy proulx I think it would be a great idea cause not everybody wants 4strokes. Just more engine options and prob a lot more sales

what 2stroke side? lol
2021. They are here.
