A 440 Panther was about 1250 for 1971 season. Depending on options of course. Ford Galaxie sedan was about 3500 to 4000 bucks depending on options. So a top Cat was about 1/3 the price of a Family car. Today a sedan if you can find one , I ll guess is anywhere from 30 to 50 grand. Top Cat today is about 23000 loaded. Now add in the massive technical leaps from 1971-now there’s more stuff. But the sticker shock of a sled costing as much as 40/50 percent of a new big sedan is still a number that drives kids away from the sport for lighter snow areas.
When I was a kid Dad bought a 72 Cheetah and Panther....love that Cheetah was the first thing he let me drive by myself awesome!
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS
Thanks for thevid
Why did Arctic Cat use those Walbro carburetors for as long as they did?
I love these old snowmobile films. Thanks for posting!
Wonderful memories. When sleds were simple, fun and didn't break your bank account.
in 1971 I'm sure this sled wasn't cheap . most people probably was making $1.00 an hour for work

Fantastic video Steve. I used it to setup my 1972 Cheetah rebuild.
So you pretty much had to check everything the factory did or didn't do.
