Thanks for the discussion, really enjoyed it. :) I used to be into Science Fiction, but I definitely enjoy this trilogy more.

Thank you for your podcasts. I wait patiently for my podcast platform or RUclips to post a new one and immediately devour - sometimes I go back for a 2nd listen or even a 3rd. Keep up the great work!
I appreciate Crystal bringing up Eugenics a few episodes ago and the revisit today. I will take issue with Aaron saying that eugenics is not really a thing anymore, about the ten minute mark. I would say eugenics is still a thing - aborting babies with Down Syndrome is eugenics. Attempting to create designer babies is eugenics. The science is getting more precise and the eugenics mindset is still in enough heads to be a danger to the Life Affirming society we hopefully desire.
Lewis said in "On the Reading of Old Books" that many basic assumptions in the outlook of opposing parties in a time period are the same when looked at from above. He says Hitler and Roosevelt have untroubled agreement on many things. I do not know Roosevelt's personal view on eugenics, but the country he lead did share their eugenics ideas with Hitler's Nazis.
The Nazis, with no lack of bentness on their part, did look at the American eugenics programs as one to learn from. A Virginia town I frequent has/had a Mental Asylum (now closed and considered a haunted/paranormal location) Nazi scientist visited those running the "hospital" in the 1930's to learn/share information - so says the locals.
The Eugenics Crusade from PBS is very eye-opening. A Dangerous Idea: The History of Eugenics in America is another good watch. See The Constitution Center for an informing video - ruclips.net/video/3rt1YWvV1fA/видео.html&feature=emb_title.
To end, treading lightly since it is being investigated: but the whistle-blower at ICE claiming unwanted/forced hysterectomies on detainees is not comforting. Left or Right, America has a track record worth investigation regarding these issues. They are not edifying.
As Lewis says towards the end of Vivisection: "The victory of vivisection marks a great advance in the triumph of ruthless, non-moral utilitarianism over the old world of ethical laws; a triumph in which we, as well as animals, are already the victims, and of which Dachau and Hiroshima mark the more recent achievements."

Yes, eugenics has power and momentum as never before. James Corbett, the corbettreport, did a series on Bill Gates who was born into a eugenicist (and banking) family and wants to vaccinate 7 billion of us not just once but again and again with a "digital tattoo" which will be our "immunity passport". Dr. Carrie Madej one of many doctors who are warning about these genetically-modifying vaccines.

Producer Aaron here: C.K., see what you mean and I take your point. The examples that you list are certainly 'the children of eugenics.' The legacy of eugenics in America is disgraceful.
I meant by my comment that the core animating concept behind eugenics is not culturally accepted anymore. It is not 'a thing,' as in no respectable person is advocating publicly that society as a whole (or the state) should systematically and deliberately encourage people with good genes to reproduce and prevent or discourage people with bad genes from reproducing (especially legalized sterilization). I agree: some of the practices and ideas that it introduced still haunt us (hiding under the guise of progress, by different names); some of its worst ideas still lurk on the fringes of society; but, you don't see respectable, educated people writing columns in the New York Times advocating for the revival of eugenics. It used to be a common and culturally accepted idea among thinkers during the "Progressive Era" in the early twentieth century.
Case in point: When the complaint about ICE hysterectomies was submitted by a whistleblower the agency immediately denounced the practice and distanced themselves, and the vast majority of Americans were utterly horrified. Compare that with the laws written and voted upon by legislative majorities in the early twentieth century, especially the Supreme Court's decision on Buck v. Bell in 1927. What was literally written into law and implemented by the state is now, at best, a criminal act being reported by a whistleblower. And the Court clearly feels no need to overturn Buck v. Bell because nobody is arguing in court for the sterilization of undesirable people.
I definitely see your point though.

@@aaronhill7599 Yes, sorry, I was on a Eugenics Kick with documentaries lately, and maybe I watch and read too many dystopian stories where eugenics plays a primary role. Keep up the good work!

Please, please make De Descriptione Temporum/The Great Divide available again. I had the cassettes years ago from the Episcopal Radio/TV Foundation, but I want to hear it again...

My guess is, there is plenty of lost audio of Lewis floating around.

Producer Aaron here: Actually there isn't. The BBC lost or failed to save most of Lewis's broadcasts made during WW2, if they ever even recorded them. The only audio that we know of, besides the forthcoming Lost Lewis Tapes--which will be released on Friday, October 2--is listed here. - www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justin-taylor/all-the-known-audio-of-c-s-lewis-speaking/
