2002 Excursion 7.3 with the 165L tank. Filled up the other day and it cost me $290
😮
That depends on the region however.
Let's not forget that.
Manitoba Canada
Dang $ 6.60 a gal that’s insane
Oh my! I think I'll be at half that for my pickup. But dayumm! Rip your wallet.
Surprised I’m not seeing a lot of comparisons to the 8.1 vortec… on the class a forums it’s always a hot topic for the used units. Our class a has the 8.1 and our Excursion had the V10. Love both but I do think the 8.1 makes better torque with the extra displacement. It is remarkable how smooth the V10 is and it was nicely paired in the Excursion.
It's kind of hard comparing the feeling of torque between two vehicles like that since most excursions have 3.73 gears and A class have 4.88 or higher from my experience.
There's going to be several Excursions, Suburbans (especially the 3/4 ton models), V10 Dodge Rams, and HD GM and Ford pickups for sale.
Ford had the Triton V10 and Dodge had the Magnum V10 while GM had the 8.1 8100 Vortec V8. During the Young Bush administration, there was tax write-offs on heavy duty trucks and SUVs for businesses.
@@hahaadventures4838 Not true. My gramps work at a huge construction site. The V 10'S ARE SUPER OVERLOADED. TO GET MAX. AND CARRY PLUS HAUL WAY BIGGER HEAVIER LOADS.CONCRETE, IRON, SOIL LOADED! AND TAKES IT ALL! EASY
My previous employer was a SoCal municipality which had a original 37,000 mile 1995 Chevy 3500HD dually dump truck with a big block 454.
This truck hauled everything from concrete to wet sand/seaweed to dead seals and took it all in stride. It would sit dormant for weeks but it always started on the first try.
Running a GM 8.1 is next on my bucket list.
@@hahaadventures4838 yea cuz an LS will blow lifters and drop valves
My Olds 442 gets about the same mileage but even when the gauge reads about 1/4, it only takes about 10 gallons. So my effective range is around 100 miles.
I have the 2001 f350 v10 with the short need and it only holds 29 gallons… when towing I barely get anywhere on a tank lol
And that's probably alright because you wouldn't want to drive that car too far anyway. For a short weekend drive that should do :)
Years ago I had an Olds 88, big old 4 door and I think the engine was a 425. It used premium gas and got worse gas mileage than the Excursion!
We had an ‘05 Ex V10 4x4 limited. It routinely got about 11mpg, 13 Highway. Max ever was 15 in NM. We had the higher geared one and it was actually more “sporty” than a 5.4 Expedition my parents owned (talk about a dog)! We used to have to use two swipes too back in ‘14. Roomy truck, no skid plates though, so I never off roaded it much. Was good for pulling people out of snow and ice though.
I just filled up F250 7.3L. I paid $116 for just under 30 fallons at $4.50 a gallon here in Az.
I have eight siblings, so our family car is a 2002 Ford E350 four-wheel drive 15 passenger, and that gets terrible mileage as well it gets about 10 mpg, and then our car that gets the best mileage gets 40 plus. And all of our other cars are between 20 and 39 mpg, depending on how they are driven.
Hey, Tommy! Try to stay optimistic and instead of thinking that spending 2% of the car's value on fill-up is painful, think that you got a very great deal on purchasing the car 😊
And it does not cost that much in matiance every 5 secounds.
Just took my 2000 7.3L 262,000 mile Excursion from Texas to North Carolina. 19.7 mpg the whole trip filled up once on the way out, once during the 5 days there and once on the way back. 968 miles one way. Still not chipped or deleted. You can't give me a gas Excursion or anything else for that matter.
You can get 47.3 gallons in that tank. I had the 6.0 limited I bought new in 05’. Slowest setting on the pump gets that number. The slower the pump the less aeration in the fuel. Gas or diesel.
At present, here in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada, gas costs roughly $7.65 a gallon. If my math is correct.
Valmont Road in Boulder! Nice truck. Not a Ford fan but the Excursions do get my attention when I see them.
We have a 02 Econoline E-350 with the V10 currently has a bad miss fire maybe a coil but has been a great vacation vehicle!
Here in Northern Ontario,Canada that same amount of gas would cost $240.00
Actually in Quebec it cost me $232.00 to fill my 130 liter f-150 gas tank. 1.79 x 3.79 liter
Gas is around 10 - 10,5 dollars per gallon in The Netherlands 😢
But but, how can that be? Biden isn't your president
Europe has been broken for a while now. America is finally catching up and getting what we voted for.

$4.33 a gallon, I wish, in NZ we are paying over $13 NZ dollars a US gallon which equals $9 in US money.
87 octane is our 95 octane and its on average $3.35 per litre.
Our high price on fuel is mainly due to our taxes, 45% in tax.
Yep we spell the right way
@BL Dontmatter otherwise roads are not maintained, that isxthe tradeoff
Here in the UK its £7.42 a gallon at the moment I would love it around the $4.00 a gallon....
Dude I'm crying for you 😭 , my 04 Excursion is a 6.0 Eddie Bauer four wheel drive, 3:73 gears
You need to compare this engine to the Dodge V10 available in their pickups and vans of the era.
I have a 99 suburban with a 42 gallon tank. Its awesome going 500+ miles before filling up, but it hurts at the pump!
Ditto on the GM 8.1. You all should find a 2500 Suburban with the 8.1 for a comparison. I had one in a 2500HD and loved it.
I have the 8.1 with the Alison trans in our ‘03 GMC 3500. I wouldn’t trade it or sell it for anything in the world.
8100 Vortec is the best ever! I own a few and will never get rid of them. Most reliable engines ever!👍
In Spain during the lockdown with all time low gas prices It did cost 4,5$ a gallon, now it's double.
@@allentoyokawa9068 in Europe the period is a comma so understandable

I have a 1994 GMC Suburban SLT 7.4L V-8. It has a 42 Gal fuel tank and if I'm lucky going downhill I still only get 9.5mpg in that thing...
3/10/22 5.99per gal today in L.A ..😤 drive safely
Roughly 59 dollars to fill up my TDI Golf and I was just below 1/4 tank. Prices are getting stupid and that was with a 5 cent per gallon discount.
I've got an 03 e-350 with a v10 and a 35 gallon tank that I bought off a church for $1000 so every 9 tanks is the cost of the van.
Compared to greek gas prices wich are about the highest in the world you have it cheap in america ! We pay 2.2 euros regular unleaded for 1 liter
My 2001 v10 excursion 4x4 with 152k gets 10.8 to 11.3 at $4.25 a gallon here in indiana it cost my 44 cents a mile just is gas to drive my excursion
In Canada my 96 Tahoe is gonna be a $150+ fill. If not more.
Try doing that with diesel. It costs a lot more. I do love the large tank. Makes 500 mile or more per tank an option. Great for Overlanding and towing.
Bro I just filled up my 1500 Sierra 5.3l with 140 dollars. 6.19 a gallon in cali
Love how u checked for canadians too
Sounds about right. My 01 F150 with the 5.4 averages right at 11.7 mpg. But I also roll on 35's with a lift. Let's just say it doesn't move much these days.
Our step vans average 5 mpg :)
A lot of RV's on Ford chassis had the V10. Much lower maintenance costs than a diesel.
Thank you tommy I love this content on this big Burley piece of forgotten ford history
Over here it is 10$ a gallon (Belgium)
Excursion: the tank of SUVs. Go anywhere, do anything with a credit card with no limit. 😂👍💯
It cost me the same (119 euro) to fill my 1.6 diesel kia ceed in Ireland.
I feel ya, I just bought a V10 2000 just like y’all! I need a small loan for gas now!!
“Yep it’s still going we didn’t top it off” the pain in his smile
Hello again! My excursion is a 2004 with v10 but only 6400 miles on board and if I keep it arround 1600...1700rpm I get 17 miles per gallon. All you have to do, is take it easy, avoid sudden acceleration and the fuel consumption is not bad at all. You test trucks brand new, who got less miles per gallon of fuel than this one, so.......
I just adore it and I have an 1997 tahoe with z71 package, also first generation escalade, which is basically chevy tahoe and 1993 k2500 suburban. So I can compare this excursion with the biggest name in trucks.
Please make more video with this beast, maybe go off road an take maybe a 2000 suburban k2500 with you, for comparison?
Thanks
Glad I have the Diesel version because it gets between 16 - 17 MPG
For that money and how far you'll drive you could have booked a flight! At these prices is costs me under $1.50 day for a 15min trip to work.
I'd better watch the ads to help pay for this video. It's the least I can do for you !
Filling it up is nothing compared to the monthly payment on something equal in today's market and in my opinion there's nothing out there that can equal the Excursion, today it's all planned obsolescence plastic over the top electronic garbage, We have a 01 Ford Excursion LTD, V10, 280.000 purrs like a kitten, and I can work on it myself😅
Make a great boat anchor
I would have to respectfully disagree with you tommy. 5.4 v8 isn't small for the excursion. It had good torque and hp for a v8, it made my tires spin when launching. V10 is obviously stronger but was too much of a gas pig and the 7.3/6.0(bullet proof) shat on both gas engines any day
sounds about right, lol.
I chuckled when he got confused why the pump stopped at $95🤣
Welcome to owning an excursion😂
I'm glad here in indiana they don't limit that pumps
Welcome to owning any full size truck.

Years back, I knew a work crew that had a Ford 4WD F-550 V10 Crew Cab with a utility body. Loaded with tools and men, the truck probably had a loaded gross weight of about 11-12K lbs. all the time. The crew told that, when driving 75 mph on the Interstate, the truck got about 4-6 mpg max. One day they were out on a job on the Great Plains that was blistering hot--106° F. They were working out in the open on equipment that, itself, was producing even more heat. So, they left the F-550 idling with the A/C on all day just to have a cool place to get out of the heat from time to time. They sad that, in their 12 hr. shift, the truck used nearly a quarter tank of fuel just idling. As you said, though, the V10 was a tough engine--that one went over 350K miles without even being opened up for any serious repairs, despite a lot of hard duty, with a lot of extended idling, winter and summer.
Built Ford Tough!!!
@rockymountainjazzfan in cold weather the consumption get's way worst .
Love hearing stuff like this.
My uncle ran some construction crews and had a early 2000’s 250
With the v-10.
After running some errands and mashing the gas the whole way I was shocked to realize how much the fuel level fell. I actually put gas in it because I was scared my uncle was going to know I was beating it.
My dad owned a f-250 fx4 w the V10 10 mpg towing or unloaded four inch rear six inch front lifted with BFGs black body colored bumpers black wheels crew cab beautiful built ford tough truck
350k miles and 5 mpg. That's a lot of gas
The mileage is actually better than I expected, relatively speaking. It's not bad. You see guys with built up 4Runners and Tacoma's that barely get better than that, and his Ex has way more power and way more room. I think one of these would make an amazing overland rig. You could probably get 35 or even 37s on it without too much trouble, and with that massive fuel tank you'll have a great range, even with the poor mileage.
I have a 1999 F350 superduty dually with the 4.30 rear end, averaging 11 1/2 miles per gallon, but the road manners are top tier with really low noise and smooth driving.
I have a F250 extended cab full size bed manual V10 and if is quite. A pleasure of a work truck. Can’t find a 2005 F350 v10 crew cab full size bed non dually that isn’t modified.
@@tengu190 A lot of people in today's society do tend to do stupid modifications to their trucks. If I'm being completely honest, I hate the things people do to their trucks to lift them, etc. Keep in mind this is coming from a 14 year old!! 😂
@@nicksevers8045 I don’t mind a slight lift like 1” and maybe uprated tires and wheel that don’t require recalibration. Cold air intake is a waste of money. Cat back exhaust is alright as long as not too noisy and done right.
@@tengu190 True true, an exhaust is nice depending on the vehicle; though if I was getting a truck for work, I'd keep it entirely stock, unless if it was a Dodge, then I'd rebuild the transmission because the 1st gen and 2nd gen Dodge RAMs have transmission problems, Manual and Auto.
@@tengu190 Mine's a crew cab, long bed dually with the "Lariat" trim level. I affectionately call it a "luxury farm truck" since the previous owner only used it to haul horse trailers back and fourth between Southeastern AZ and San Diego and it only had about 116K miles on it so for a (at the time) 22 year old pickup, it is in really good shape for it's age.

I always thought Ford engineered the Excursion all wrong, instead of being F250SD-based it should've been two Focus wagons linked in tandem. 8 cylinders, 4WD (and four axles), 10 seats, 140 cubic feet of cargo space, and ulitmate towing capacity (already towing its' own weight). Three transmission options (manual, automatic, one of each), built in displacement-on-demand and if you need to be in two places at once you can decouple them and drive them separately.
I used an 01 F350 based dump truck with the V10 in my first job. I agree with your assessment of that mill. The sound of one firing up still makes me smile as it takes me back to those older, simpler days. Thanks for the video. I'm excited to see this in the future challenge series!

Colorado people and their compulsive need to remind us that they live at high altitude. Yeah, we get it. I live at 6,100 feet in a suburb of Nairobi, Kenya, and drive my vehicles across a range from 9,000 feet down to sea level at Mombasa within a single day and notice no difference in performance. We don't obsess about altitude here, we just get on with life. And we don't have a need to constantly remind everyone that we live at more than a mile above sea level.

How does a 8000lb truck with a 6.8 V10 literally almost get the same milage as my 01 Blazer with a 4.3
Because miles per gallon is a really bad way to express fuel economy. For example, people think 1mpg isn't a big difference, but 12mpg vs 13mpg is a HUGE difference in annual fuel usage compared to say a 49mpg vs 50mpg hybrid. The first is around a 10% consumption difference while the second is only around a 2% difference in consumption.

I've gotten as high as 14 empty on the highway and also as low as 7 while towing a 5th wheel camper.
FYI, Ford's (and all manufacturer's) octane rating suggestion is at sea level. When you gain altitude, you can run lower octane because the air is a bit thinner. 85 is perfectly acceptable at altitude.
