The famous Alpine A 110 is based on the Renault R8 Gordini and has been fitted with larger engines through its life like the engine of the Renault R16 TS. Many old Renault R8S'ses and Spanish Renault R8 TS'ses have been fitted with the engine and gearbox of the Renault R5 Alpine and Alpine Turbo's the reason being that the FWD R5 had the gearbox and then engine layout, the R8 had the same configuration but only in the back. Another interesting fact is that the Renault R8 had all round disc brakes on ALL models which was a unique fitting on such a small car. You can tell a Spanish TS from a French R8S or Gordini 1300 from the headlights : A Spanish car has 4 pce 5 3/4" diameter headlights the French cars have 2 pce 7"outer headlights and 2 pce 5.3/4"dia inner headlights.
