- Fertilizing is an important part of container gardening as nutrients are leeching out of the potting mix each time you water. I fertilize my herb garden about once a week, which is more often than my other annuals in larger containers.

Bethany the herb garden looks beautiful! That fish fertilizer is amazing!! I use it on all my plants, the tomatoes love it! Another fertilizer that I use is Maxsea, it’s pricey so I use it on my roses. Great video!

I like to store my flexible hose in a nice decorative pot. So that no one can tell what's in it. Also drains any water that's left in the hose, so no mosquitos.

Your herbs garden look great with terracotta.
I love terracotta pots so much! I think I might try to seal them on the inside this winter to make them retain water a little better.

Alil later in the season, add some morbloom with that fish fertz. It's a type of fish fertz(same company) but it's 0-10-10.

I use a metal wall hose mount for my expandable garden hose. Those made from plastic won't last very long.

I think that will probably be the easiest storage solution and I do somehow have pots I haven’t filled yet 😆
Just watched a video from Hello Garden. She too likes herb teas. She is growing apple mint and loves it. Just sharing…don’t grow mint and don’t drink tea. 🤪

Teas! That’s what I use most of the mints for but I am going to try drying some, putting it in an herb shaker, and using it on things like ice cream or oatmeal.
Hi Bethany! Your herb garden looks great in the terracotta pots. I thought most perennial herbs don’t need additional fertilizing or amendments since they like poor soil. Do you do fertilize because they are in containers?
Yes! Even things that say poor soil I fertilize bc there isn’t a lot of room in these pots to begin with and my herbs are always much happier when I do.
@@ChicagoGardener This video has been very thought provoking and I have been racking my brain thinking about this. I think you're the first content creator I have seen with a fertilizing routine for mint which is commonly grown in containers since they spread. Mint will grow in pretty much any soil but now that I think about it, my mom had a large and very lush container herb garden and while she didn't use liquid fertilizer, she heavily amended her soil with kitchen scraps, particularly by burying fish scraps and watering with the water she used to clean and prepare fish.
I have struggled growing flowering herbs that prefer poor and dry soil in containers, particularly yarrow and nasturtiums. Nasturtium definitely prefers poor soil or it will grow more foliage than blooms. I think I have been under watering it though. Yarrow flopped and didn't have many bloom when I had it in soil amended with compost. This year I didn't amend it and it had a few more blooms that stood up straight but still not as many flowers as yarrow I have seen grown in ground. I tried adding an all-purpose liquid fertilizer and it seems to have sped up foliar growth but so far no new blooms. Honestly the plants that are heavy feeders and require consistent water have been easier for me because at least I can understand what they want!

Yes!! I love seeing everyone’s different gardens too in those videos. Sometimes I get jealous of those in warmer zones until it’s consistently over 100 degrees in summer 😂
