Loved it!! Redhill is probably one of the best and cheaper places to get full ATC practice/experience without having to go into a 'airport' and pay large landing fees.
ThanksJon, for de bunking the terminology........ATIS is just a fancy way of saying a recording! This mini series has been a great help in taking away the fear, a fear we as GA pilots many seem to have and allow to dictate how and where we fly, whilst flying is not simple neither is it as intimidating as many of us perceive it to be. As a normal GA pilot and not an instructor your videos are a great help in clearing the fog.
I really don't understand why your channel hasn't got many more subs! Such great content, excellent editing, fantastic narration... I'll stop there but I could go on! :)
I learned to fly at an airport (Langley CYNJ) with a tower and a control zone (Class C in Canada). The controllers always impressed me: nerves of steel and the patience of saints, at an airport where it's not a given that the people in the planes actually know what they're doing.
This would have been very useful to me back in the day Jon had there been such a thing as RUclips and must be very helpful to the youngsters today just starting out so great job. I did find Redhill a bit intimidating I must admit.
Love this and I'm not even doing my PPL, could I ask if I'm able to use some of the ATC audio from this video please? I'm creating a video for Redhill Aerodrome on Microsoft Flight Simulator and the audio would be a great thing to have over the cinematic video I have. Thank you and all the best.
Does a anyone know what happened to the bloke who said 'This is London Volmet Main and This is London Volemet South'? Used to love listening to him when we had our radio.
@@TheFlyingReporter Haven't heard them in years. As I said, it wasn't a computer voice back then. You could hear the cuts in his messages. I guess I'll have to tune in again. I've found the website that gives you their frequencies.
john wheatley nope. No charge for the atc except landing fees to the airfields really. We dont have flight following. We request a service from the different atc units. Basic (information only), traffic (radar traffic information), deconfliction (radar with advice for avoiding traffic), procedural (non radar service using timings and reporting points).
An honest question. I am instrument rated in the USA. Watching these videos, it seems to me that ATC procedures seem overly complicated. Is there a reason for this? All the best.
I know it is your 'day job' Jon but all of the interviews have been well structured and informative. Very nice mini series
Thanks Tim.
Very nice mini serie about UK controlled airfields. Really help me a lot to improve my english level to pass the FCL055 ! Thanks a lot from France !
Thanks Christophe.

It works sometimes Andrei!

Do the people in the aeroplanes ever really know what they're doing!?
Another excellent video. Looking forward to the Heavy Metal edition ! Thanks.
It's a corker.
Wish I'd had this when I started, good stuff. Tip, listen to ATIS before start, will state whether start up request is needed.
sonarand my instructor told me this, and he said it saves a few quid on the hobs
@@christopherwilson6527 It's hobbs.

You are a great youtuber! I’m surprised you don’t have more subscribers!
We pilots are a selective bunch.... ;-)

Superb Jon.

Are there charges for the different types of air traffic control - i.e. "Flight following" etc ? Thanks in advance...

Charges do come in, when you're over a certain weight, for certain flights - usually IFR.
@@TheFlyingReporter Ok... Thanks for the information, its something I have often wondered about..
really interesting
What's an aerodrome?

I think you have to fully appreciate the unique way it’s done here, to understand how it works, and why. Not defending it, in any way, shape or form.
Top drawer old boy.
Thank you Simon.
I fly my lessons from there
I can't teach you anything then!
I’ve heard rumours they want to build in redhill!
I don't think it's in the local plan any more.
The Flying Reporter Also heard that fair oaks is for the chop to...which would leave not many airfields in Surrey! Hope they keep it!
