I agree. If only there was a way for OP to request repayment without causing drama and ruining the day for everyone else. What if OP had a side conversation with his uncle 10 or so minutes after the moment passed or at any quiet private moment to chat? No drama. No problem. No hurt feelings. Hmm.

That yta commet in the first story sounds like a people pleaser or one of those people who say “but family” seriously if this man cook for Dad fancy vacation and to give his kid money then why can’t he afford to pay off a debt? He’s not only an idiot but he sounds like a scammer
That last comment in the last story is an idiot but he’s confusing frequent visits over spending the night over at someone’s place and they have to contribute that’s stupid. And he probably sounds like the sibling

Thus screwing up the gathering for everyone else. God help you if OP can't hold his emotions for 10 minutes or wait for a quiet moment to demand his money back. It is more important that he causes drama and ruins the day for everyone else. There is an unkind word for this.

      Both were in the wrong.
OP for not reminding the uncle, not getting proof of the debt and deadline in writing as well as letting the situation become so drastic due to a lack of communication. OP should have confronted the uncle in private first, preferably via text to get proof in writing.
Uncle is also dumb for either not keeping track of his finances well enough to repay debts before spending a windfall on lavish luxuries at best or maliciously ignoring the debt at worst.
Personally, I'd like to assume ignorance until malice can be proven. But it's very glaring that the moment the OP had their outburst it wasn't countered by an embarrassed "Oh, darn. I forgot but I'll pay you back asap since I have the money now." or "I was actually planning to get to that part later in private."
Also the outburst is several days old now, so the lack of any communication or repayment makes it more likely he was and still is trying to sweep it under the rug and take advantage of the OP
