Very underrated channel. I just found you a few days ago, and I’ve been watching a lot of your videos. Not only are they helpful and decisive, they are also entertaining to watch, and your enthusiasm adds to that. I’ve learned a lot of new stuff, even from the things I thought as basic. Thank you very much, and please keep it up!
Honestly, most of the times i watch a tutorial, i just mute the video after a few minutes, you got me engaged and entertained, super underrated channel, Thank you so much, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much dude! I was stuck not having Maneuver nodes and only 20k budget and had no idea how to build an orbital rocket with all tier 1 stuff. I did 2 launches with 2 complete orbits and I got 130k now from the mission and science stuff. I'm back on track. Next stop, the Mun!
You tutorials are some of the best in all KSP history, you are a legend. Very underated but so is smaller KSP channels like VAOS or Carnasa. Anyways wishes for your channel to grow ,❤️❤️❤️
Just got KSP free from Epic Game Store. These tutorials have been great. Have achieved orbit a couple of times but still need practice to get it done nice and clean.
Getting back into this game for the first time since 0.23 and your tutorial series got me back and better than I was in literally no time at all. Best and most comprehensive tutorials I've seen while also being simply explained and easy to understand. Keep it up, Mike, and fly safe!!
Unclear lol he speaks soft slow and fluid to best explain it. I am a dumb ass and did it from this video maybe you think its unclear cause your so smart 😂😂😂😂
This video is gold! I was able to make my first orbit with safe return. It taught me much more than orbiting, I learned a lot about rocketry. Thank you!
Loving these Tutorials....been at least 3 years since i played the game and decided to start playing again......i understand Delta V from your other vids now better than i did before
gosh I was a KSP veteran, but then I took a +five year gap to the knee… this video is teaching and refreshing me so much. I was kinda just lobbing things towards orbit & seeing what sticks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH ! I succeeded in getting orbits but they were way too long and I didn’t know you had to thrust horizontally. Just following your advice and got it first try !
Omg you dont understand how much ive been hitting my head into this and you teaxh it better than anyone else im shocked you arent in the millions on the subscriber page but you haveny subscriptuon thanks so much
This is by far the most informative KSP video I've seen. I'm a noob and this was so incredibly helpful in understanding what certain numbers and different things actually mean. Thanks! (Also, you kinda sound like Nardwuar)
This was a big help for future rockets, I had been ignoring the stability indicator and only instead using wings to bring the center of gravity down. I did my first orbit a day before I saw this, and I made alot of mistakes learning along the way. It was an ugly elliptical orbit ranging from 100k-200k. The games tutorials are okay, they walk you through the processes, but they don't tell you WHY you're doing these things.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I’ve been trying to orbit for almost a week now because the tutorial in game is broken, and every guide I had found online didn’t help. But then I found this video. You earned yourself a new sub and an active viewer!! I expect to see more great tutorials like this!!
Just got back into KSP a few days ago and now you’re doing new tutorials! Can’t wait for tutorials for space stations/satellites because I do not understand them too well.
When you're adding multiple parts to a pair (or more) of substructures (Like those fins on your boosters), you can build one substructure while using normal symmetry modes to place those symmetrical parts, then remove the entire substructure and re-add it with symmetry enabled.
Superb job on this tutorial!! I watched a lot of KSP years ago but never played it. I got an Xbox and finally got KSP to play! It’s complex so I have been watching some tutorials but this one has so much more useful information than others! Great job, and many thanks!
Mike, your teaching vids have always been super helpful, some even for long-time KSP players. Thank you for helping us all succeed in our space endeavors, whether just getting to orbit or deploying a full Mun comm sat network in one easy launch! 👏
Thanks! This video is very helpful with explaining all the small details that are easily looked over when you first start to play ksp. Definitely gonna use the info of your video with my play through.
Something I've started doing: rotate the root capsule 90° so you pitch down to point east, rather than yaw right. Feels more natural for reasons that probably aren't rational
Nice tutorial! Some real-life trivia that doesn't affect the game. Several different methods are used to vector the thrust of an engine, including moving the entire engine, moving the exhaust bell, and injecting gas into the engine plume to reduce the thrust on one side. KSP calls all these "gimballing", which technically only refers to moving the entire engine. In real life, there are rocket engines which cannot be restarted, or which can only be started on the ground. The American Atlas and the early versions of the Russian R-7 did not carry engines which could be started in flight. In fact, the Russians sent the first probes to the Moon by launching directly into a lunar trajectory, instead of going to a parking orbit around Earth and then performing a separate Trans Lunar Injection burn.
Thanks. All great info. I'm running into the single ignitions right away playing around in RP-1. Also, I've yet to have engines that throttle, and when they do come, the range of the throttle is very limited.
@@MikeAben Great stuff! One of the first engines that could throttle was the descent engine on the lunar module. This worked by releasing helium into the combustion chamber to lower thrust ... so the engine would use the same amount of fuel throughout the throttle settings, but it didn't run as efficiently. Early gasoline engines used on fighter aircraft didn't have throttles, so instead they had a "blip" button that would turn the engine off for a moment. Since the engine was hot it would restart reliably. I don't know if there is a rocket engine that "blips."
A very important point to add about stability; un-maned rockets in the game are innerently harder to controle and to balance. I've had way more unmaned rockets flipping than maned ones.
A couple of things that may be causing that issue for you. One is that fairings generate drag that is not reflected in the CoD location in the VAB. You may need more fins to counter this. Two, the reaction wheels in the probe bodies are weaker than the ones in the non-DLC command capsules giving you less attitude control.
Tbh in campaign I prefer to scrimp on actively seeking science until I get more unlocks and then just making dockable/extendable science satellites and vessels and rovers. I admit it would be a slog if I hadn't been playing nearly a decade, and its the same at the end of the day, but I like those big science hauls and its great fun coming back from a new biome with all the data at once instead of repeat trips with drips and drabs; or you can dump the vehicle with solar panels and the habitable research lab and a transmitter :) Great video, though! Very thorough.
The bit with raising the periapsis made me SO NERVOUS because I thought I would run out of fuel way before then, but it turns out I just had to trust the process a bit more!
Thank you for such high quality tutorials! Devs should add link to your materials on the main menu :) At 27:31 you enable Map View in picture-in-picture mode. Is it possible in vanilla game or is it a mod or some other witchcraft? Such a nice feature.
All right, if this is not the best KSP guides Nowadays, AND one of the best (if not THE BEST) guide on career, I`ll cut my leftthumb off so then I wont be able to like any other videos
Cheers for the in-depth and detailed tutorial! This is great. I'm gonna go ahead and say something controversial: it's better than Scott Manley's tutorial It is much more informative having numbers put to it. One question I've got for ya: does the game provide the necessary information for you to work out these things, like delta-v, for getting off of various planets?
Nope. 44 km is in the atmosphere. That said, 44 km may be above the altitude where the game will delete the vessel when it isn't rendered, assuming it to be destroyed. I can't remember exactly where that cut off is.
It's a tenth the size of Earth with the same surface gravity. I recall someone calculating that it would need the same density as uranium for to be true.
At a little after 25:00, when you mention that you have no steering because you only have SRBs in your first stage, would it help to include the Swivel engine in your first stage but run it at low throttle? You would of course need to remember to throttle-up when you stage! I'm slowly getting back into KSP after being away for a "few" years. I've been greatly enjoying your tutorials.
