VIRGIN ATLANTIC review: Economy class on the amazing A350

- In this review, I will share the full Virgin Atlantic A350 experience in Economy. Just how impressive is Virgin's new flagship aircraft?
Virgin Atlantic have long been known for their competitive prices and a unique style. For my first review of the airline I flew from London Heathrow to New York JFK airport on their brand new Airbus A350. Virgin have upgraded their economy class product with the new jet but what can you expect on-board? As always I will share my final thoughts at the end of the review.

What do you think of Virgin Atlantic? Have you flown with them? Let me know and subscribe!
I've flown with them.
All I can say is that one person's "cool" is another person's "tacky". I fall into the latter. I don't want to be served "brekkie". I'm not a five year old. I also don't want a check in desk to resemble a disco from the year the airline was founded. I think Virgin has lost all the cool trend setting status. Look at its it's new business class compared with ANA. Comparing you and Virgin. You are very much the cool one in my eyes.
Nicholas Mackenzie-Rowe haha I’m glad someone else agrees that I am cool! I do agree with your opinion, it was fun but I prefer other airlines.
Hi Blake how we doing mate I have flown with virgin to orlando twice on a boeing 747 we are due to fly out to orlando again in June and have been just notified that it is a a350 we flying on which is fantastic because i have a mate that flys the a350 with virgin so happy days he is requesting the flight . Just one question how come you didn't use the belly camera it's meant to be awesome .
As an American, my only regret is that I can only fly Virgin when connecting through the UK now (no more Virgin America, sadly) . Other than that, they're my favorite airline because they make travel so much nicer for the average traveler, without making it too pretentious or expensive.
@@nicholasmackenzie-rowe68 I have to admit the "room" seat on ANA's business class is super interesting and I prefer it to the diagonal layout in Virgin's upper class definitely, but nobody matches the charm and charisma of Virgin Atlantic's crew and staff. I love the mood lighting (although, yes, sometimes it's a bit intense) and the fresh flowers and check in experience actually make me WANT to check in personally instead of electronically. Overall, Virgin is such a warm and pleasant experience. Very hard to find a consistently better way to travel at that price point
How have I never seen this channel before, what a fantastic video and channel!!
Thank you James that’s great to hear!
Flew with virgin to las vegas. Fantastic flight, food was excellent, had an extra meal service of steak or tomato and mozzarella pasty between lunch and afternoon tea.
Sounds like I need to fly to Vegas!
Beautiful presentation as always. Very honest and fair review of the plusses and minuses of the service from this airline.
Thanks I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Just got back to the UK from my return trip to los angeles. Have to say I'm not blown away by virgin. It was on the A350 for both flights in economy and it was OK - cabin crew are decent and efficient but nothing that special like Singapore Airlines e.g. but what disappointed me was the legroom. It felt very tight and barely slept on the night flight. Also the meals were OK but need better attention. You just get a box with a couple things in it. A proper meal tray with several options is a must, as emirates do.
Thanks for the review. We had a London trip covid cancelled and I will rebook. half my trip was on BA and the other half on Delta (Virgin Atlantic). Now I want to do the international leg on Virgin!
I hope that you have a great trip.
Flying Virgin Atlantic this weekend from JFK-Amsterdam.. then Heathrow-JFK. Looking forward to it!
Very good enunciation, easy to understand, background music not intrusive, lots of detail.i will keep watching.
Thank you Alan, that's great to hear.
Excellent trip report. You had a perfect wing view of this A350. I really like the moodlighting of the cabin. Not many airlines equip their A350 with air vents, I'm glad that VS do
Really considerate and well rounded reviews. Very honest and fair. Keep up the great work!!!
Thank you!
Love the wing flex too!
I could stare at the A350 wing all day long.
Good blog glad you like virgin I flew 300-500 great flight I agree the food is a bit sparce although I found it tasty
Thanks for watching
im going on virgin atlantic to orlando in about 8 days. been with them once before but cant really remember much. they sound alright ngl.
Great vid!!! I’ll be reviewing this as well in February - can’t wait! I have always loved the Virgin service even when the planes have been a bit tired - they should now have it all!!!
I flew the A330 back which was understandably quite a different experience to the A350. I hope that you enjoy your trip in Feb.
A350's certainly got the wow factor
Oh absolutely. I have been lucky enough to also try it with BA and Iberia and it is a stunning aircraft.
Seat 52K is the actual seat ive booked for my upcoming flight to jfk so this couldn't have been a more tailored review 😊
Never flown with Virgin, my brother and his wife are heading to Florida in February with them so see what he thinks. Great video. Thanks.
I am sure that they will have a great trip. I have another review of the Virgin A330 coming soon.
Can’t disagree about the comments about the food. I’ve flown with Virgin several times, and in all honesty, Jet 2 ‘s in flight food is better !
I have had a very tasty sandwich on a Jet2 flight to be honest.
Hi I'm thinking to fly via virgin first time
Have a great trip 😊
I had the same food/menu options served on my Virgin flight to Miami (10 hours). Allthough portion sizes aren't anything to shout about, there are plenty of snacks and drinks that you can get from the galley whenever you want.
You are absolutely correct Jamie, most airlines also offer self serve drinks and snacks on long haul flights too.
So, question for you Blake, why is it that airlines are moving away (or so it seems to me) from the gaspers? Other than that, and more on point, another great video. Hope you enjoyed the long haul to America and back.
I have wondered too.. What's up with restricting a little extra airflow to passengers?
Hi David good to hear from you as always. I can’t say for certain about the air vents but in this day and age I would assume that cost is likely the driving force in the decision to not have them.
OMG some of your videography is simply stunning! A very good review, and if you’re watching this - subscribe now! This guy’s content deserves a lot more views!
Thanks Steve that's very kind of you to say and I am glad that you enjoyed the video.
Blake Edgington - Airborne keep up the great work!
Awesome review. Great anount of commentary and nice B-roll too. Covered all the areas one would want to consider when booking. Can’t wait for my trip to Atlanta this December!
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for such a comprehensive and detailed review Blake. Subscribed. I see more positive feedback about Virgin Atlantic than negative, and this was largely reflected in your review. Beautiful new aircraft, but perhaps a little too purple for my liking in the lighting department!
Thanks for watching and for subscribing, it means a lot. I agree with you about the purple lighting, fun at first but it was a bit much.
Great wing view on take off Blake !! Overall not a bad experience...and a reasonable price for what you get ...eg new aircraft...etc etc ! Thanks again mate...always enjoy your honest and frank reviews !! Well done again !!
Thank you Craig. The wing view was a total fluke, the seat map suggested I wouldn’t be behind the wing.
A350 has the cam to see the plane from the outside u can watch anytime or no tysm
Brilliant report, mate! I’m glad that Jeb recommended your channel, because this editing is just stunning. Keep it up-I’ve liked and subscribed :)
Thank you, that’s very kind and I am always grateful to Jeb for his support.
Great review of VA ! Keep the content coming!
Glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
It's been awhile since I've flown with Virgin Atlantic.. I last flew with them when I went to Tokyo in 2007.. Back then that was an Airbus A340.. Looks very different now to when I last flew with them :).. Hoping to go to Seattle next year and they are one of the Airliners I am considering.. Good stuff :)
I love the A340, such a cool aircraft but sadly it’s days are numbered with Virgin.
Fantastic review mate, what an aircraft. I know very little about Virgin, but what I do know after watching this video is that I really want to fly with them.
You should give them a try! Would love to see what you think.
Nice look at Virigins A350. Im surprised they kept the purple hue. With LEDs; I enjoy how some airlines rotate through several colours.
It was softened slightly to a more natural colour just before landing but I agree, the purple was a bit much after a while and I prefer the way other airlines use the system.
The seat on virgin is almost identical to ba, just red rather than blue.
It is very similar indeed. I have also flown on the BA A350 and you can see that video here ruclips.net/video/m6-kvJtPAPU/видео.html
I Always try to fly with virgin ,never had a bad experience with them, unlike BA.
Great video Blake. I haven’t tried Virgin before but look forward to trying them at some point in time.
Try and get the A350, it's a wonderful aircraft.
Blake Edgington - Airborne will do.
Loved the video, youtube choice to send me a notification even tho I haven’t rung the bell. I will be hitting that bell now
That led lighting would get annoying
Glad to hear it! As I said in the video the lighting was unique and fun for a while but I was over it after a couple of hours.
Great review as usual Blake. I had my best ever flight experience from LHR to JFK with Virgin last year on the 787 - sadly the experience on an ancient A330 on the way back wasn’t so good. I’m not really a fan of Airbus aircraft but have to admit the A350 is impressive 😎
Shhh... don’t ruin my A330 review for everyone 😉. Hopefully I will try their 787 at some point as I am a huge fan of the Dreamliner.
Blake Edgington - Airborne - Also a big Dreamliner fan - done 3 dreamliner flights - Dom Rep which was our first “Premium” experience as well as my first long-haul trip which was great but the Virgin flight topped it even though we were in “Economy Delight” seats - Great aircraft, great crew, great LHR airport experience. We have got so used to flying on ageing 737’s short haul its a massive eye opener when you fly on a Dreamliner how far aviation technology has come in the last few years,
love watching these reviews... so i know when i gone my once a decade flight i know what to invest in lol
Hopefully you will be able to fly more often.
Having a scone without jam is plain wrong! Lol.
Great and informative video as always, Blake.
I guess I was just unlucky but completely agree, it was tasty and would have been amazing with the Jam. Thanks for watching.
I think he should have asked...pretty sure he was supposed to get some.
Another great video on a carrier who making big moves in the Transatlantic market since their Joint Business venture with DL etc. The newer aircraft suite VS' style I think although that purple hew onboard would probably irritate the life out of me too. The A350 is a great piece of engineering though and I can't wait to try it out
It was an enjoyable and unique experience for sure. Very much an A350 fan now.
Virgin have been doing cream teas for the past 25 years at least and used to inclued fresh strawberries.
Fresh strawberries would be awesome!
Hi, great video. On the seat 52K being at the wall to the toilet, are you able to recline this seat at all?
Yes there is recline if I remember correctly.
Really enjoyed this video - loved the delivery and the editing! Instant Subscribe.
Ive not flown virgin atlantic for quite a while but I am glad to see they are still good on most the key things. The food though is quite dissapointing!
Food could have been better but overall a great experience. Thanks for subscribing and make sure to check out the return flight on the A330 coming soon!
Seat design very good my opinion
Comfortable too!
Yes
Thanks for the hearts
Gotta be up there with the best aviation channels on RUclips for sure! Think I asked you the same question on the BA a350 video but it’s a major thing I consider when flying long haul economy. Was there an ife box under the seat in front of you in the window seats?
Thanks Thomas I appreciate it. To answer your question, there was no IFE box under the seat or at least if there was I didn't see it and had plenty of foot space.
I love watching die hard on a x'mas day or new years eve myself ,too !! I just flew with Virgin A350 both ways & really enjoyed my flights !! As expected both de light & premium seats were very very comfortable !! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💞
Great review. I'm going LAX-LHR in May in Economy Classic. Very much looking forward to the trip in a relatively new aircraft. Did you find the IFE box under the seat in front of you, and if so, was it as bad as some state? That's a concern for me on a 10.5 hour trip. Again, great job!
If you are flying on the A350 you will have no issues with the IFE box. I am 6ft tall and did not notice anything. If you are on the 787 I can't say for certain as I have not flown with Virgin on that aircraft.
I hope you wont feel offended but your vids are like... ASMR vids to me.. I always watch them late at night be4 sleeping... They have a calming effect on me :) You never seem to be stressed or in a rush at airports.. Something i cant say about myself :) Greetings from Amsterdam. Thumps up.. PS Singapore Airlines is my fav airline.
Haha not offended at all! Sometimes I am rushed if I have a tight connection but generally I enjoy exploring airports. It’s all part of the journey. Haven’t tried Singapore Airlines yet but I hope to soon.
@@BlakeEdgington I always wondered? Do you make this vids just for a hobby or are they part of your job? Anyways.. I enjoy your vids.. Keep up the good work and i wish you and your wife a merry Xmas and a blessed 2020..... tc
Just a hobby. I work full time so flying has to fit around that. Can be tricky sometimes.
@@BlakeEdgington Ak ok Respect
We flew from Boston to Cape Town, South Africa via LHR in Premium economy, we were very satisfied with our experience, but were also dissatisfied with the size and quality of every meal. On the leg from from LHR to Cape Town I asked for some wine, I was given a can of wine, it was awful and had a metallic taste. Halving said this I will definitely fly Virgin Atlantic again.
Thanks for sharing your experience Peter.
Another great review mate!
Glad that you enjoyed it 👍
Super Video
Glad that you liked it.
Hi Blake, what video camera or smartphone did you use for the virgin atlantic flight?
Nothing too flashy, just an iPhone for cabin shots and a go pro for takeoff and landing.
Hello Blake, good video. I’m here from your Instagram and decided to check out your RUclips. :)
My videos are much better than my photos! Welcome to the channel 😉
Back in the 90's i flew most of the carriers and back then Virgin were miles ahead of the competition.... just going stateside for the first time in 20 years and I picked Virgin from my past experiences...hope it hasn't changed. American Airlines however were my all time worst...staff were so bloody rude.
Great review btw.
Glad that you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching.
United is the worst !! Lol. But ,pretty much all American airlines staff tend to be very rude !! I live in L.A.,but Delta got better in a decade ,or so. The United airlines got improved a bit ,but still very rude vs others ,I believe !! They are the most hated !! Lol. 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💞
@@spark_6710 This trip never happened btw...covid said no 😪 Do United do the trans Atlantic flight?
@@fastasfox Oh...aww ,that is a bummer !! Hoping you can still make it happen someday soon !! Oh ,yes !! To get to Britain from here ,we have to fly across the Atlantic Ocean !! I flew with Virgin Atlantic !! A350 both ways !! It was fabulous !! Thank you so much for your reply !! I really hope your plan will happen still !!! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💞
@@fastasfox Oh sorry !! I misread your question ! United flies to Britain ,yes !! For all the planes going to Britain, they have to fly over Atlantic Ocean to across ,get to Britain !! 🇬🇧 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💞
Great as usual!
I aim to please 😉
I wouldn’t really compare the food directly to the other competitors considering how cheap the fare was compared to a Lufthansa, AA or BA
I’m afraid I have to disagree. A quick search online offers flights with BA, American, Delta and United for the same or very similar price to Virgin on this route.
Blake Edgington - Airborne
My bad
I thought by what u said at the start of the video inferred that Virgins pricing was lower and than other carriers across the Atlantic
Never had a bad flight with virgin ,unlike British airways.
What happened?
Every year I go to America and I use virgin Atlantic cause my mum works there
I assume you enjoy the Virgin experience then!
Please can you do a video on Aer Lingus’s a330 or a321lr across the Atlantic?
Already on my list. Not sure when but it will happen at some point.
5 stars all the way for Blake
Thanks! Really appreciate it 👍
Another quality review Blake!!
I've seen better of Virgin to be honest, are you sure that the meal in eco light is the same as regular economy? I know that TAP now have 4 or 5 different fares with or without food, it makes it pretty confusing.. Anyways based on this review nearly every other carrier offers better service to the States than Virgin.
Some suggestions for 2020
A LOT Polish flight
DUS-BLL Sun Air on behalf of BA
STR or ZRH-LYS. Twinjet
FMO or GRQ-CPH AIS Airlines
Aeroflot because they are very underrated, you can get pretty good eco fares to Asia.
The food is the same with Virgin in economy regardless of fare class. Some very interesting suggestions there! I have flown with LOT previously and Sun Air is generally quite expensive but still flights to consider for sure.
Can you recline your seat when sat at the back?
From what I can remember yes you can.
Cheers Blake. The view at 5:29 = amazing!
Thanks Paul, I have so much footage from that flight it was hard to choose what to include! Very impressed by the A350 but still love the 787!
Hi Blake,
wow...what a cheap price in Eco light, thumbs UP!👍
But unfortunately not with a seat selection in advance (window)
For an avgeek like me a MUST HAVE (ALWAYS, not only long haul)😜
The question is, 100€ more for a "save" window seat in standard Eco or the risk to get an aisle or middle seat by check in :-(
How was your experiece especially by this flight and what is your point of view in this case generally?
I too have to sit by the window! The cost for selecting a window seat was just £20 for this flight so it still made more sense than booking a standard economy fare.
Don’t forget the a330neo
Wasn’t in the fleet at time of filming.
why is there a channel shop in terminal 3
Why wouldn't there be?
I would still always go Norwegian, no matter the price 🙂
Any particular reason for choosing Norwegian?
@@BlakeEdgington I've grown up with them and they offer such a great loyalty program (earnt €60 credit free in a few hours just from doing a few surveys) and I trust them more
Have flown Norwegian short haul but never long haul. I know they have some good fares from LGW. Will have to try it some time
@@benttwiggy5940 I'm flying them for the first time in March and looking forward to it as it's my first longhaul on a non legacy carrier
@@leestravels7079 Nice, to be honest, you probably get a much better experience on the Dreamlimer then you do on a Legacy for a much lower price
Hehe... It's it not our fault if the Ganache tastes like more.
Who’s fault?
@@BlakeEdgington Virgin's for not giving us more more more 😉
nice vid but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the music its not a disco
With the A350 mood lighting it could be!

Imagine being underwhelmed by an aircrafts macaroni and cheese 🤧
I am a macaroni connoisseur.
Hi blake just stopped by
Always nice to hear Dennis.
Those seats look narrow 😶😶
It looked worse than it was, I didn't find the seat too bad at all.
If you like to eat well, upgrade. Even then, not a guarantee.
Of course you will generally receive more food in a higher class. My point was that even for economy the portions were small. I have flown with United, Lufthansa end Emirates long haul who all offer more substantial meals in economy.
12:24 😂
LONG LIVE EMIRATES
Not a chance mate!!! My family and I flew with them to and from Florida a few weeks ago and they were TERRIBLE!!! In every single way. I regularly use 3 other airlines and Virgin is by far the worst in every way.
Sorry to hear that.
