This fair takes place in the heart of the city, right up against the Rhine River, and was home to awesome rides like Höllenblitz, Wild Maus XXL, and Alpina Bahn! The fact that big German fairs like this are a common thing is amazing.
    I love Germany.

  • @verybighomer
    @verybighomer Год назад +71

    It's correct that the rides are owned by usually a family that travels from fair to fair. That's why you have to buy tickets individually for each ride. They maintain and operate the rides as their own business and they have to apply for places on the fair to the city.

    • @UwePieper
      @UwePieper Год назад +7

      Yeah. From all theme park channels I follow it took me some time to understand that fairs in the US are basically set up by single companies. I like the setup here better. It‘s definitely more expensive but you get different rides to the fairs.

      @@je6a478 Up in Denmark we dont have anywhere near as strong of a fair ride scene, so we really just have 3 or 4 family owned companies with a collection of transportable rides where they're offered to fairs as a full package, with all the rides by one family. So we dont have anything as large as Germany does, heck our largest travelling coaster is a Wacky Worm.

      To the first part: It's actually really common at some cities during fairs or other festivals in Germany that men don't have to pay for toilets, because most would pee on the streets and stuff. Which I think is really unfair and dumb to reward shitty behavior to the disadvantage of other people and in this case women.

  • @zodayn4767
    @zodayn4767 Год назад +11

    The fair is a group of multiple operators. The toilets are run by their own company and doesn't earn anything from the rides which is why bathrooms are paid. These operators often also run foodtrucks and depending on the event's payment structure charge the organizer or the guests for their services. Now I don't know about Germany, but here in the Netherlands freestanding urinals are often a requirement from municipalities for events in public spaces. Because drunk dudes who don't want to or can't pay for a toilet will wander away from the event and cause trouble. Some feminist protestors have argued that the municipalities should demand free unisex toilets and not aid trouble causing men while letting law abiding women pay for their correct behavior.

    Hey Taylor, the reason dudes don't have to pay for the urinals is that,. as you already correctly commented, Dudes don't need to sit down. If they where to charge for the urinals, they would, especially as drunk as most people there are, just pee wherever they'd find a quiet corner. And since nobody wants to have somebody pee on the back of their Bratwurst Stand, urinals are free after 8.pm. And the reason we charge for the toilett is, that this pays for the person cleaning the toilett. Used to be done via tips, but is much better this way. Hope this helps.

    Always interesting to see non-Germans react to german funfairs. Having fences around most rides doesn't work here because on weekends, funfairs get so busy that they unload/load rides within 10 or 20 seconds at most - for that you need to jump on the moving platform and "fight" for a seat lol.
    And yeah - Alpinabahn very often dispatches every 30 seconds with a 4 train service on weekends.

    5:42 It makes total sense that people who use the 'big toilet' pay more than people who only use a urinoir since a urinoir is much smaller and easier to maintain. If males use the big toilet they also have to pay. And yes it's common that people have to pay for toilets, otherwise it would be a mess, it costs money to maintain toilets. And a fair ground is public, who will pay for the upkeep of the toilets if it were free? Free toilets are usually dirtier than paid toilets.

    So the capacity on fairgrounds is so high because it's pay per ride. The more riders you get per hour the more money you make. That might even be why they wildmouses trimbreaks were turned off. Sure the track degrades faster on higher speed passes. But the higher thruput makes up for that financially.
