Not quite. This was a production under Fox before Disney acquired it. Generally all projects, except the big ones, are automatically shelved. 20th Century Fox was a massive studio to acquire.

That one line, “I don’t know what is scarier. The fact that everyone in the kingdom wants to drive a sword through my heart. Or that sometimes, I just want to let them.” It really shows how much damage someone can do with only their words. And I don’t even know how to express how much that one line relates to me. The voice actor, just, yeah. Also, anyone notice they made the eye and head shape of the "monster" at the end similar to Toothless in "How to Train Your Dragon" (?). In fact, this movie was a FIRST for me in one respect: Historically, I've virtually never been able to cry to a RE-watch of ANYthing. To answer your question! This movie had a rough history to get made, and it's adapted from a graphic novel. Blue Sky had originally been creating the movie when they went under and Disney bought the company. Disney was going to continue the film, but scrapped the project until Netflix picked it back up and I'm so, so happy they did! I've had an appreciation for movies that have the potential to trigger intense emotions (ever since I saw "Inside Out", and felt firsthand the endorphins that can come along with tears). Upon my own first watch, I found it interesting how, even though it's rare for any movie to pull dripping tears from me, THIS one did! There must be something I find personally so cute and sad regarding an innocent shapeshifter that can turn into any animal and all they want is a friend... but they can't find one 😢 I didn't start to get emotional (or attached to any characters) until those scenes showing Nimona trying to mimic and join various animal herds without any success. I wonder how many viewers, like me, thought, "Aww you can come live with me and be my friend, and you can shapeshift all you want!"

This is one of my favourite movies as of today, along with puss in Boots and beyond the spiderverse, I also LOVED the design of it so much! The movie is about how people treat people who are just different in general 💜
While I am part of the LGBTQ+ community (Genderfluid, Pansexual and Asexual), I personally relate a lot more to this movie with having Disabilities and people treating me differently and nobody ever wanting to be my friend (or the friends I did have eventually all just turning their backs on me once they realized how different I am) and everyone hating me and quite literally calling me a monster and all kinds of other things because of it like even my own family doesn't accept me and I never understood why, especially as a child!
As an adult I came to terms with the very sad but very real fact that most people just don't like you when you're different, like they're afraid of the things that they can't understand or don't want to understand and they just chose to quickly attack us instead of actually taking the time to get to know us and educate themselves about our differences......
When Nimona was talking about how shape-shifting makes her feel, I related that to my gender fluidity, but I also mostly related that to my Autism (plus other disabilities/illnesses) and having to mask and hold in my real self all the time whenever I go outside just so I can at least try to fit in and not be treated like i'm not even a human being, but then coming back to where I feel the most comfortable (like at home) and finally being able to let go and throw that mask of and be 'free' to be who I really truly am 💜
While the basis of this movie is the LGBTQ+ community which I absolutely love, soooo so many other people and minority groups can also very heavily relate to this and if anything it actually just brings us all together and unites us as one in a way which is what I love the most about this movie and it's become one of my all time favourites too! 💜
I really wasn't expecting to cry or get emotional during this movie but OMG my room turned into the whole entire freaking ocean after this, I mean inclusive representation that can reach and be felt/seen/heard by pretty much all kinds of communities and walks of life like this is absolutely incredible and groundbreaking and is soooo so needed and important and I swear this movie will always mean the whole entire world to me and more 💜

As someone who is just a straight, white guy... I found Nimona and Ballister to be incredibly relatable. I was vilified simply because I was the boy who didn't like to watch sports... or because I had a garden... or was into science before it was cool. It kills me every time I hear about a "good kid" committing suicide, and society is just so blind as to why. I cannot imagine what individuals like yourself have experienced... but I know the bullies who tried to stomp me out... and how little dirt they needed to justify their hatred. This world has a lot of growing to do, and this is exactly the movie we need... for anyone whose ever been abandoned or outcast. For anyone whose ever consoled a struggling friend... or stranger. This film is beautiful!

This is one of the most powerful movies I've ever watched. It's almost painful how much it spoke to me as a trans woman with transphobic relatives. The parallels between Ballister constantly going on about how other people aren't accepting as he is and my father complaining about how it would affect him if I came out publicly. Also the whole chat after they crash the car about Nimona feeling worse when she doesn't shapeshift and the freedom when she does is so similar to how I feel about when I wear skirts or have my nails done. The fact that she "sure wouldn't be living" rings incredibly true to how I feel like I'm merely surviving when I'm not with my friends, who actually accept me for who I am, regardless of the fact that I'm still a long way from even getting on HRT. If anybody has read this all the way to the end, thank you so much for listening to my thoughts. Sincerely, Penelope

Nimona can be seen as spiritual successor to the iron Giant.
. The title character is this powerful supernatural being who’s learning to become more human.
. Theres an outcast type human who acts as the moral compass of the title character.
. It’s themes of being of acceptance, being who you want to be, and friendship.
. The antagonist is this close minded authority figure, who’s filled with prejudice and fear.
. Even the ending is directly the same where the title character sacrifice themselves but comeback at the final scene of the movie.

Also with iron Giant asking the question of "what if a gun didn't want to kill?" (or something along those lines) - its the questioning part of who's the monster here that parallels the dangerous weapon in iron giant
And the answer is always humans. The difference being in iron giant, they use the weapons - but in both cases, they blame anything bad onto the monster/weapon and not them who have caused the whole mess from the beginning

The main romance is like a better version of Raya and Namaari; it's still enemies to lovers, but it's more than just heavy flirting during their battles. You genuinely feel the established relationship they have and it's amazing!! They also go a bit more into why they think and act the way they do, making their separation both more interesting and heartbreaking. I also really like that it's so nonchalant; I feel like a lot of us are at the point where we don't care what gender we date, so I'm glad they didn't treat the gay relationship here as such a shocking thing.
Nimona is also really good and funny. She's basically an animated version of me: punk rock aesthetic, chaotic neutral, and an animal person😅😆 I can definitely connect with her story as someone who identifies within the LGBTQIA+ and is on the autism spectrum.
Overall, just a really pretty, sweet, and groundbreaking movie!! ❤️‍🔥🤘🦾⚔️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

TELL ME ABOUT IT- that "emotional AGAIN" aspect was a FIRST for me with this movie: I've had an appreciation for movies that have the potential to trigger intense emotions (ever since I saw "Inside Out", and felt firsthand the endorphins that can come along with tears). Upon my own first watch, I found it interesting how, even though it's rare for any movie to pull dripping tears from me, THIS one did. I didn't start to get emotional (or attached to any characters) until those scenes showing Nimona trying to mimic and join various animal herds without any success. But again, this movie was a FIRST for me in one respect: Historically, I've virtually never been able to cry to a RE-watch of ANYthing. But a day or two later of trying a re-watch of Nimona, certain scenes triggered an actually-even-stronger reaction from me. Then I cried again writing my own comment. Then again reading at least one of the other comments.
I've actually spent years searching for a personal "repeater-tearjerker," and I just may have found it.

The fact you did a reaction to this is the ONLY way I knew this movie existed (I know... I "don't get out much" lol!). I've had an appreciation for movies that have the potential to trigger intense emotions (ever since I saw "Inside Out", and felt firsthand the endorphins that can come along with tears). But I usually need to see the full movie for it to do anything to me. SO, I waited until I saw the FULL movie BEFORE watching your reaction. (Amazing job with your reaction!) Upon my own first watch, I found it interesting how, even though it's rare for any movie to pull dripping tears from me, THIS one did!
In fact, this movie was a FIRST for me in one respect: Historically, I've virtually never been able to cry to a RE-watch of ANYthing ("The Land Before Time" was an exception, probably because it had been 20 years lol). But a day or two later of trying a re-watch of Nimona, certain scenes triggered an actually-even-stronger reaction from me, so that was very surprising!

I don't care what anyone says. This movie is so awesome in so many ways. It's cringy, but funny. It made me laugh, shocked, and cry. Everything about it, just makes me want to watch it over and over. Like every time I watch it, I cry or laugh, because it's like I've watching it for the first time again! Also people saying it sucks, because it's lgbtq+ but haven't even watched it yet, need a life. Like we won't force you to watch it, but being homophobic on something you never seen is stupid. Plus the part where she says "I don't know what's scarier. The fact the everyone in this kingdom wants to run a sword through my heart, or that sometimes I just wanna let them" made me cry, because like it had such a deeper meaning. This movie is just 100/10.
Also can I say I'm so happy for Eugene (from the try guys and the guy who Ambrosius). Like I never thought he'll be apart of a movie or do VA. I'm literally so proud of him, especially since hes apart of the LGBTQ community himself.

I thought it was POSSIBLE based on Nick's thumbnail, and I've had an appreciation for movies that have the potential to trigger intense emotions (ever since I saw "Inside Out", and felt firsthand the endorphins that can come along with tears). Upon my own first watch, I found it interesting how, even though it's rare for any movie to pull dripping tears from me, THIS one did. I thought this film was amazing. I love that the answer to “Who/what are you?” was always “I’m Nimona”. Nimona didn’t want to be labelled from the outside or even be defined by what she could do. I also loved the theme that the real villain of the story was close minded narratives. In a way the Director was a victim too. She had been indoctrinated by her society’s narratives to see anything new or different as a monstrous threat. That’s why she was also against Ballister from the start. He was a commoner who broke a glass ceiling and was now among “the elites”. Goldenloins cut off his own boyfriend’s arm and Ballister, like Gloreth, questioned his own personal experience and relationship with Nimona- all because of being gaslit by someone else’s propaganda and narrative. I have to watch it again with my wife and daughters. I’m looking forward to talking about these themes with them and hearing what they think!

    • @sathvamp1
      @sathvamp1 Год назад

Yup :( I also I noticed Gloreth was following along with the others' fearful reactions of the "different entity" (EVEN THOUGH the different entity did not actually initially do any harm). So it's also a comment on "Do your OWN THINKING"...

Given the Medieval times crossed over with a futuristic era, it complements the setting nicely. The themes of us being so dependent on our technology that some people's dated beliefs are still stuck in an old era. Prejudice plays a huge role in this movie too.

Nimona is an allegory for trans people, specifically in their case, a non binary trans person. When balester called them a monster, they vehemently said "don't call me that", akin to calling a trans man a woman, or a trans woman a man. Every chance thet got, they rebelled against that label. Their answer every time to "what are you? " was the same every time "im nimona".

I’m a trans kid in America, and this movie means so much to me. It is very clear that this movie is an allegory for institutional oppression, specifically for trans people, but it isn’t just another suffering story, and that’s what I love about it. The trans coded character isn’t just a whole bunch of trauma in a trench coat, she’s allowed to have fun and be happy while still being a very emotionally resonant character. This year has been rough for me, but this film is just the perfect breath of fresh air. 🏳️‍⚧️❤️🤘

Yup, tell me about it! I actually was not (fully) expecting to cry in response to this movie... I thought it was POSSIBLE based on Nick's thumbnail, and I've had an appreciation for movies that have the potential to trigger intense emotions (ever since I saw "Inside Out", and felt firsthand the endorphins that can come along with tears). But upon my own first watch, I found it interesting how, even though it's rare for any movie to pull dripping tears from me, THIS one did. I didn't start to get emotional (or attached to any characters) until those scenes showing Nimona trying to mimic and join various animal herds without any success. In fact, this movie was a FIRST for me in one respect:
Historically, I've virtually never been able to cry to a RE-watch of ANYthing. But a day or two later of trying a re-watch of Nimona, certain scenes triggered an actually-even-stronger reaction from me. Then I cried again writing my own comment. Then again reading at least one of the other comments.
