      Brazil gas a 75% tariff on imported products, that's why it's hard to enter brazil and make a profit.
      There are 2 Ikeas in Chile and one in Colombia afaik.

      Why is there no IKEA in Brazil?
      Brazil has very high taxes on imported goods, about 75% or more above the FOB cost . Local companies such as Tok & Stok also face this problem, but have probably already optimized their purchases to reduce the tax impact; Ikea also chooses to buy much of its furniture from very strictly managed local subcontractors.

    The "scandi horse" she is talking about is just IKEAs modernized version of the traditional "dala horse", they were originally handcarved and painted red, with ornaments, in a region in Sweden called Dalarna, as a children's toy, but it has become a decorative item, and a symbol of the Dalarna region, and Sweden as a whole.

    The thing about IKEA is that when you buy furniture there, they are in boxes and you screw them together yourself when you get home. This makes the furniture much cheaper.

    • @znail4675
      @znail4675 24 дня назад

      Yes, this is the key idea that made IKEA such a success. The main problem of any other furniture store is that furniture takes up lots of room making it very hard to have much of stock in a store. The compact flat packs makes it on the other hand possible for IKEA to have lots of furniture on hand making it possible to sell much higher quantity and thus possible to have lower prices and still make enough money to get by.

  • @Olwynrules

    The legend about Ikea is that they are so large in size that Ikea never employ people but it's lost customers that gave up and found a name tag to put on themself :)

  • @nocturne7371
    @nocturne7371 Месяц назад +5

    The IKEA store has these installations of rooms so you can see the things in a room environment. All things have tags on them with the name of the product and a alfanumerical code. If you plan to buy the product you write down that number (there are paper forms and pencils all over the store for you to use), then in the warehose (that you pass on your way to the cashiers), you find the row and place for your item. And if it's furniture, it's in a flat pack that you have to build yourself. Like a huge lego set. It has the wooden pieces, screws, screw drivers and a booklet with step by step instructions. But for a fee you can order your purchase dilivered to your home and assembled by IKEA staff.

    • @KalleKilponen
      @KalleKilponen Месяц назад

      I'm not sure if it's the same elsewhere but at leas there in Finland they did away with the pencil and book approach. Now people scan the code with their phone to add the products to their IKEA app shopping list. The App will tell you where to find the item in storage and how many they have in stock. (And you're able to purchase through the app as well.)

    Hello fro mGermany. IKEA is very big all around Europe. My whole kitchen is from IKEA except for the electrical appliances. And also my bedroom is from IKEA, except for the bed.
    My bed and my living room are from another German store which has partially adopted the concept from IKEA.
    I have a large IKEA just a 5 minute drive away and tomorrow my wife and I will be looking there for new desks and cabinets for our office/study.
    2:00 This is a Europe thing. We have them in Germany and I have seen them in Switzerland and the Netherlands for myself and I know they exists in a lot of other countries like Sweden in the video. But how it is enforced can be very different in each country.
    4:00 It is not a mall. It is just one shop: IKEA. And IKEA has a restaurant in it. Most people take several hours (usually no less than 3 to 4 hours) to go shopping there.
    11:08 Correct. IKEA is considered to be cheap, but quite good for the price. Therefore, it is something for all social classes, but mostly for the middle class.
    18:30 Same in Germany. The art is international.
    19:20 IKEA remains true to its concept in every country, but always adapts its range. Because what works and is popular in one country can be something completely different in another.

  • @sweMike
    @sweMike 15 дней назад +1

    IKEA's prices in each country are now considered to be the reference. This means if it's cheap in one country, the price in the next country will be low as well. All prices are adapted for each country. If IKEA opens in Brazil it will not be expensive.

IKEA is a great place to go people watch, the amount of couples arguing(price/what to get, what not to get 🤣🤣🤣, kids misbehaving(or just being kids), it can be great fun, or pretty exhausting to be honest. Personally i've never really cared for the food there, but plenty people enjoy it. IKEA is for everyone....All the best from Denmark ❤

    I have a funny story about affordable furniture. In the late 90s, IKEA started to sell inflatable furniture. It was super-cheap!. I started at university at that time and had my own super-tiny appartment (about 25m^2). All of my furniture was either my old from my childhood, or something I got to borrow from family. A lot of my classmates had though those inflatable couches and chairs. That was a riot! the furniture was seethrough, but you could buy throws in different patterns.

    Hey , you can find Ikea, in Chile, Peru and in Colombia, Mexico and I think they have a store in Argentina as well! 😊 The store are more like what you in Latin America call malls, they are so big because they stock in the store. And they are no other stores in ikea that don’t is by IKEA, like the food, the delivery service and so on.
    Sweden and Scandinavian countries they are famous for the minimalist style not just in fashion but most in interior design. This is the spirit of Ikea.

    The wood horse is an old decoration and/or toy the first ones was done in homes that could be sold on a market, it was not necessarily painted or decorated. The most known swedish wood horse is from the region of Dalarna, in Sweden we call those that are from that region Dalahäst (dalahorse) they are often painted in a base colour and then have a decorative pattern painted on, all of the decorative painting is done by hand, if you travel to that part of Sweden you can visit some workshops that makes the horses and some stores you can even try and paint one yourself, I think you pay a fee for being able to do that. The most recognised colour is a red base with white, green, some black and blue as part of the flower motive that is often on these horses.

    The average size of an IKEA store is approximately 25,000 square meters. This figure can vary depending on location and country, as there are both smaller urban stores (e.g. IKEA City) and larger locations. A standard soccer pitch has an area of 7,140 square meters. The sales area of an IKEA store is therefore equivalent to around 3.5 to 4 soccer fields. This comparison illustrates the immense size of a typical IKEA store and the space it requires. A store has a restaurant located about halfway through the store. A store is set up so that you have to go through all the departments one by one, but there are shortcuts. Behind the checkout is a small supermarket with Scandinavian food. There are also snacks such as hot dogs or ice cream as a reward for shopping.
    The design of the furniture and other items is such that it is perceived internationally as typically Swedish/Scandinavian and within Sweden as typically IKEA.

    Pretty sure it's a completely separate store/buildning, there are around 20 of them in Sweden, but there are also many smaller IKEAs in shopping malls all around.
    IKEA is by many considered, let's say, low class, since the products aren't usually of very good quality, they may look good but they will (usually) not last too long, but it's a cheap option for students, or a good option for those who wants to replace everything after say 10 years.
    The food is kind of decent I guess, not quite fast food, but not really restaurant class.

    IKEA has a lot of affordable things that are geared towards young people who are about to start their own household. There's a lot of starting sets. I bought mine kitchen starting set many years ago - it had pots and pans, kitchen knife set, and cutting boards. You could also buy a bigger set that also had plates and glasses and cutlery. And that was like everything for a price of an expensive kitchen knife signed by a chef.
    And all the stuff is really good. I still have EVERYTHING I bought then. 30 years later. I'm not kidding. (Well not everything. The plastic cutting board set is gone, but I had bought a few wooden ones as well, and 2 of them are still "alive").

    IKEA is very affordable here. You can usually find things from super-cheap to rather expensive.
    Most of variety choices comes from the imagination of the designers, who make their products easily modifiable to be still the same product, but be not recognizable as the same product. So my Billy shelf will look totally different from yours, because of the choices. This is one of the reasons behind the popularity, and the affordability of the company. I remember I heard many years ago, that one of the jobs given to the designers was trying to find design bases (and factory production bases) that already existed somewhere in the world. So that you could use those factories to produce furniture. I don't remember what product it was, but they showed off some product that they made based of how shopping carts are created.

    I might be biased because I'm swedish, but I have to say that IKEA is really great. I know that many swedish men (husbands, really) complain about going to IKEA because the spouse always take forever to choose what bed sheet (or whatever) to buy, but REALLY, if you look at it IKEA is great. Everything is displayed "in theme", living room, bedroom, kitchen and so on. You see everything displayed as in a home so that you can imagine it in your own, write down the code corresponding to each item you wish to buy and pick it up in the warehouse, connected to the storehouse. Beside that you can take a swedish fika or eat lunch or dinner. You will understand when you get there, it is all very swedish, very simple and sensible.

    Answer to your question if the mall is just IKEA or if there are different stores there as well. It depends on the place. It's usually both. But some stores that are outside of IKEA proper, are actually part of the IKEA. At least in my town (Västerås in Sweden), we have both a mall with a lot of different stores (including H&M), and things that belong to IKEA, but are outside the main IKEA store - like a café (that serves other food that IKEA restaurant food) that is furnished with IKEA furniture, and that small store just outside the cashiers, where you can buy icecream, hotdogs and some Swedish produce.
    But the IKEA store is so extremelly large, that it could exist on its own in that place. Going to IKEA is a half-day excursion. You need stamina to traverse it. think the trek is several kilometers long, a and the restaurant is in the middle. There was a time when we were furnishing our latest home, when I knew ALL the shortcuts, so that I didn't have to spend all that time.
    I love though the part of IKEA where they do the small exhibits. They go from entire apartments to just the rooms.

    • @Bork0r

      I would disagree. I know very wealthy people who all own and appeciate ikea products even if its mixed with more luxurious and niche products. IKEA is certainly mainstream so anyone who wants a more unique expression would go for other brands. But a home usually has a lot of stuff and very few people wants to spend luxury money on every mundane thing. A rich person could go to svenssons (a luxury home store) and buy one pillow for their guest house sofa for 150$ or they go to ikea and get 5 pillows and a blanket for the same money. At some point it just becomes silly. you dont become rich by spending your money unwisely. So basically there’s always some room for IKEA even though the ratio of IKEA to other brands in a swedish home differs ☺️

    Meus amigos brasileiros adoram a IKEA, tudo o que você precisa para uma casa em um unico lugar
    There is something like 350 IKEA stores worldwide in 48 countries and the closest thing to IKEA in Brazil is probably Tok&Stok, however even if IKEA is considered budget furniture in many parts of the world they would be expensive in Brazil, and no one that can afford buying expensive furniture in Brazil would consider assembling any themselves
    There is one IKEA in Santiago de Chile and one in Bogota, Colombia and they had plans before the pandemic to eventually open one in Sao Paulo
