Log cabin Door Handle | Pizza in the Forest | Growing Food in the Wilderness

With an axe and other hand tools, I bushcraft a wooden door handle for the rustic door on the off grid log cabin that is my sauna, bathhouse in the forest. For dinner, I make pizza from scratch and bake it on my DIY earthen pizza oven that I built last year from sand and clay.
It's late spring and I finally hack out a clearing in the forest to grow fruit and vegetables, the next step in my long path to self reliance.

shawn, i luv watching your films. and i call them films as i think you are an amazing director and filmographer (yes, new word). there is something so powerful and peaceful about watching your silent filming. it is really a gift that you give us to watch something we seem to have forgotten in our sensory overloaded life. all of the reality tv nature shows on cable these days have narrators yelling at you and soundtracks with epic music, bombarding our senses in the hope of achieving drama. well, i prefer watching your drama. the brief time i have to spend in nature thanks to your filming is fulfilling for me. i have read your comment section and people seem to universally agree about the peacefulness and calm of your silent documentary. this collection of films you have assembled i feel are destined to be watched for a long time. thank you for your hard work and dedication to every camera shot; it does not go unappreciated, friend.

I am binge watching your vids again early this a.m. It occurred to me that I watch them multiple times and maybe don’t do my due diligence and hit the “like button” enough. It’s so easy to go from one video to the next and forget, so I’m going to go back over the next few days and “liking” them all! There are truly only a very few RUclips channels I can say that I find all the videos informative and likable. Funny thing is, the handful of channels I can say that about are coming from Canadian Tubers! You fellows up there are living the life!!!

Shawn thanks for your vídeos I love IT, I hope you read this comment, I think you should get other way to plant some vegatables, get information about hydroponic,
Yes hydroponic you dont need plant in land, its growing plant in PVC pipes , believe or not its complete organic and natural
    For example:
One plant like lettuce take 3 months to grow in land, but hydroponic take only 1 month
You dont have any problem with weather season like snow
You always have a control in your plants, I send to you some information, about hydroponic and clone a tree in natural way
Take one year to produce fruits
This information is worth because you can also can plant in your cabin all kinds fruits like:
    Apple. Tangerin
    Oranges. Peach
    Grapefruit. Bananas
    Mangos. Pears
    Avocado. Cacao
    Lemons jackfruit
And many more this cabin its going to be amazing in organic food

I really enjoy your videos . It’s so much better than watching TV . In fact I don’t even own a TV . Many of the things your doing I’ve done in the past . I’m now 72 years old and can still swing an ax either handed today . My dad bought me a new ax when I was 14 years old and I cleared about three acres of thick hard wood . It took all summer to do it . He showed me how to stack the brush piles and that winter we burned them . We were making a big garden spot . We made our own ax handles when I broke one . I built and paid for my own home when I was in my thirties . What your doing will teach young people how to do wood craft if they will just watch and learn . Thanks for your very descent and informative videos .

Thanks 87virtex87 . I love “ My Self Reliance “ videos because they remind me of many of the things I’ve done in my younger years . I’ve been on many two week hunting and fishing trips where I camped and cooked over a camp fire . I’ve stayed in a big tent for a couple of weeks at a time every year while deer hunting . I cleared my own place with an ax to build my home . Then I built my own rock and cedar house with a rock fireplace . I contracted the concert slab , rough-in pluming , rough in wiring , and Sheetrock . I did all the framing , outside rock work , roofing and everything else . But when I finished building my home it was paid for . We’ve bought a five acer piece of property with a small cabin on it back in January of this year . It’s located up in the hills of central Arkansas close to a big lake and the Arkansas river . We’re going to sale our home and build a small 1200 or 1300 sq ft log cabin . We can deer hunt right out our back door . There’s a small creek right behind the cabin and three and a half acres of woodland . There’s large tracks of woodland all around our new place . I’m still very active at 72 years old and can still out work most men half my age lol !!!

When I was in FL, the mosquitoes in my yard were awful. I used to dream about putting up screen...over the entire property, lol!
No, I never did it. Decided I just was getting out of FL! Loving Virginia! Sitting on the deck, 70 degrees, sun setting behind a mountain, waterfall and creek as the soundtrack...sigh...Loving life!
Hey, in Texas the mosquitoes come in two sizes...small enough to go through the screen door or big enough to open it! Ha! Not my joke, Texans...Blame Reader’s Digest!
    That pizza looked yummy!
The garden is indeed late...so was mine, so we’ll both have less than optimal harvest, I guess. Better than nothing, though! You really want to invest in deer fence around it before you lose all your plants. My son lives in a suburban neighborhood here and the deer came in his yard and ate all the branches off his newly planted fruit trees. He was exasperated.
The sauna door turned out beautiful! Really nice job, and impressive creativity! Love it!

Your videos are like therapy, for someone who wants to do this, but can't. My grandfather had the same tools, the hand drill and plane, reminds me of him. He was a homesteader in Montana, in the early 20th Century. Your dog looks happy, and the door looks great. Great looking pizza too

A cabin door done, pizza and a garden! :) Everything lookin' mighty fine there! :) Sow your seeds on a hot day to get the best germination or cover overnight with plastic. A garden just takes time like years. Work it a bit everyday and in 3 years time you can plant and grow anything.

Your whole estate seems so established in the woods right now! Even you, as a human, are no longer a foreign body! Wish we all could live this way. Did you ever read Adam Bede? He was a carpenter of rare character and courage in literature. Has always been one of my heroes. I think you would appreciate it. You live by the same principles. I remember my first comment to you was "Do you have an older brother, that is unattached?"
Mind you, he'd probably give me the high road if he was anything like you! TFS
