Congratulations Josh! I practice criminal and constitutional law in Lima Peru. I’ve worked as a States Attorney and legal advisor in the public administration for over 13 years. Now I’m looking forward to open my own office and practice criminal law. Your video it’s very helpful. Thank you!
Great tips. I'm a solo in North Carolina & really need to revamp my website, which is sorely out of date, but then again, I'm getting enough clients so it's not the end all, be all. Thank you for this video!
All my life friends family say I need to be a lawyer because I’m so right about this and I’m so excited to get to no end of the world 🌎 I love ❤️ and believe that I’m blessed to live to see my partner in law
Congratulations on your success Josh. I am preparing to go out on my own after 17 years of practice. I found the information you provided very helpful. Many thanks, Matt
Thanks a lot Gerben. This was one of the most useful and helpful videos I have watched . It was all your personal experience thus m sure it will be certainly a help to all budding lawyers out their including me . ✋👌

Thank you for your insights on starting a law firm. I understand the business aspects you are going in detail with. What I find missing is the initial investment. That is, the bottom line (monetary means) to initiate those aspects you mentioned. Just like any business initial investments are important. So, if you can expand on what the initial costs were for you starting a law firm. Wholeheartedly, I respect what you are doing to strive and its contagious. Thank you for any response and be safe.
Great question Justin. I had less than $10,000 to my name when I started my firm. It was 2008, so my recollection is a little foggy, but I probably spent around $2000 to get an initial logo and rudimentary website. I started very scrappy... basically living "client to client" and reinvesting any profits back into the business (to make the website better, pay for more advertising, etc.). This will no doubt not be for everyone, but it is very possible to "open" a law firm without much money.
@@JoshGerben recollection during 2008 "a little foggy" was that the year for legalization Jk. I respect the grit that you've gone through starting out but did you have to quit the firm that you were with to start? As for me, I am dedicated to start my firm but location is everything for me. I want to help the community I grew up in. Which is not really filled with legal opportunities at the moment. So, I am preparing for lull starting out but building my clientele as I go. Good luck to you sir and keep inspiring/educating.
@@justinflor4893 good luck to you. The more money you have saved, the better off you'll be. I had over 100k saved up and a spouse who paid the bills and provided health insurance for us. Everyone's situation is different. You may have to do something part-time as you build your business. Best wishes!
Hey, I’m starting a law firm but I’m in Oklahoma so there’s a lot less crime so should I continue starting a law firm or just join the head law firm. Btw nice vid, always love ur vids
Does anyone have any experience starting a solo practice right out of law school? I'm considering doing criminal defense trial work and looking for some guidance. Message me privately if you're able to offer any help!
Depends on where you are. I'm in North Carolina and attorneys can apply to get on court-appointed lists. I don't do criminal defense but have heard that it brings in a steady stream of supplemental income to many solo practitioners. You should contact people in your local bar associations to network and try to get mentors. Good luck!
@@aalegalfocus Did they say where they are ? Looks like not. I want to do international. Also , so many people speak English all over the world , so you can do it with English! And be anywhere! Fiji , etc bali. But there's different regulations. Maybe extra texts depending on location yeah ?
You should make a practical video about the steps to start a law firm.. that way the ppl that want to start a law firm can get help. The first 5 minutes of this video has no practical information
It starts with knowing how much your expenses and business overhead would be. Do not borrow money to start a law practice- too risky. If you don't have at least a year's worth of expenses saved up, then continue working elsewhere or work part-time doing something like document review or contract work for other attorneys as you build up a practice. I just made a video on this on my channel, so please check it out!
I really liked this video, what's keeping me from starting a law firm is that I'm not a lawyer, I wanna be an entrepreneur in Los Angeles, if you help me start firm we can be 50/50 on the profits
Just quit big law and very secured salary to start my own shop glad I came across this.
Update please

Unfortunately, many states bar law firms from sharing profits with non-lawyers. You’ll have to become a lawyer to make money from a law firm.
i am jamroz khan afridi advocate of supreme court of pakistan and wish to work with you to earn.
