  • Virtual Law Firms are the future of the legal industry! Here are 7 reasons why my law firm is now 100% virtual and why small legal practices should make the change as well.
    It's time to say goodbye to massive overhead by getting rid of a bricks-and-mortar office so you can operate your online law firm from home and/or at satellite offices (especially if you have or are starting a boutique law firm).

    I couldn't agree with you more. About 95% of my business is over the phone / zoom. For many attorneys (though not all, admittedly) the brick-and-mortar concept of a law office needs to go the way of the dinosaur. Moreover, those savings can be redirected towards your marketing budget! (Also, here's a free tip: If you don't know about hiring VAs overseas, from the PH for example. I can't urge you enough to give that approach a once-over. Good luck with your virtual office, keep growing, and keep up the good fight!!!)

      Thanks for the feedback! How are you using VAs?

      @@LawVenture General office admin. They answer/field calls. They are your executive assistant, helping you keep track of your workload and even email (and sometimes call) clients to schedule intakes, depos, etc. There are some great VAs in the Phillipines, with little to no accent. I would not recommend a US- based VA until you've given the PH a concerted effort. The price difference is too significant to not try.

    What about me being an only California bar admitted lawyer living in Arizona (doesn’t want to move to California ) is it still common to get cases from California if deciding to go virtual law firm

    • @LawVenture

      I have no idea if that specific situation is common. But I get most of my cases from a city that I don't live in (after building strong connections in that area).

    Good stuff....so you dont use mycase or clio?

    • @LawVenture
      @LawVenture  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I don't use them. Instead, I use Google Workspace and a template spreadsheet (with 6 or so built-in sheets) to automate most of what I need. I also don't bill clients since my practice is contingency. I plan on releasing content on what my setup is. And if I end up changing things by using a service like MyCase or Clio, then I'll be sure to let everyone know!

    I’m running an occupational injury firm and personal injury cases, should I just talk to my landlord to allow me to lease the conference room to give legitimacy I want to scale down in order to retire, I need 20k a month minimum to cover my basic expenses including 2 assistants, I’m afraid of losing clients if I loose walk ins, common with state workers compensation claims. I want to move across the border to a beach house and semi retire at 48

    • @LawVenture
      @LawVenture  2 года назад

      It really depends on whether your firm's success is tied to having an office space. If I were you, then I'd be asking this question: If I get rid of the office, then will the money saved exceed the money lost from walk ins?

  • @ashleyfreeman7145

    Do you think this can work with any kind of law office? I am thinking about family law to pay the bills and some criminal which is what really interests me. I know that it would work with family law but what do you think about criminal?

    • @LawVenture
      @LawVenture  4 года назад +1

      I haven't practiced criminal defense, however, I definitely think you can make it work. The criminal defense lawyers that I know meet a lot of their clients at the courthouse or at the jailhouse. Combining those options with phone calls, video calls, or meeting somewhere like a coffee shop should cover most situations. Your ultimate fall back can be renting a spot temporarily, which will always be a fraction of the cost for rent.

      @@LawVenture Thank you so much. I really wanted to go into tort practice but as a new attorney, (after I graduate and pass the bar) but I know that you need really deep pockets to do that or you need to be hired by a big firm. Many big firms may not want to hire me because I am older (55) when they could hire someone in their 30's who could work a lot more years.

    • @LawVenture
      @LawVenture  4 года назад +2

      What kind of cases are you thinking of when you say tort practice?

    • @ashleyfreeman7145
      @ashleyfreeman7145 4 года назад

      @@LawVenture personal injury, product liability, insurance issues, med mal, things like that. I spent 20 years in medical and fire service so I think I could put that experience to good use.

    • @LawVenture
      @LawVenture  4 года назад +1

      @@ashleyfreeman7145 You don't actually need deep pockets or need to be hired by a big firm to do those things. Small law firms will usually provide you with a lot more experience than your typical big law firm because a small law firm will probably let you work a case from beginning to end (you just probably won't be paid as well). Meanwhile, big law firms typically segment the work (like having staff devoted only to pre-litigation and then transferring the case to the litigation staff after suit is filed) so attorneys may not see all aspects of the case. Regarding deep pockets, you can always minimize marketing costs by networking so cases are being referred to you for free. And if a case is going to accrue a ton of expenses, then it may be worth simply teaming up with another law firm that can help lighten the financial burden. Hope this perspective helps!
