- I first saw this episode 7 years ago and thought it was so ironic. It is crazy that Tom Hanks and Michael J Fox were on the same show and that this was part of the scene. They are such big actors and it is really cool.
This scene is from Season 2, Episode 14 "Say Uncle," in which Uncle Ned (Tom Hanks) is struggling with being a "raging" alcoholic and is kind of watching the world crumble beneath him. What is unique is that we can really see the family structure in this scene with Steven Keaton wanting to protect his son and also understanding that Ned is struggling with addiction. Elyse and Steven are begging him to call Alcoholics Anonymous so he can get help.
I just found this really cool and honestly don't care if nobody watches it.

I am rounding 10 years of sobriety and know for a fact that if I returned back to my old habit that my current living arrangement would kick me out on my butt in a minute. It is how the world works. When you screw up you cannot expect your support to look the other way. You only set yourself up every time you decide to forget.

It pains me to say this but Alex, should have backed off of his uncle, the first time.
He was young and not used to seeing his uncle in that state. Although it would have benefited his safety to stay put, I don’t blame him. He was trying to help, and in the end it worked; he made the call.
When it is because of being a drunk it doesn't matter. They won' t even leave themselves alone until they stop!!!
It is better to end up falling apart like this in a family like that for the 1st time rather than the alternative.
