He wasn't sentenced to 30 years, he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 30 yrs
He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 30 years. People keep getting this wrong. It only means that in 30 years he is eligible for parole. It does not mean he will even get parole. But he was sentenced to life.
