Fun fact, during BMW's brief owenership of Land Rover in the 90's, LR South Africa made a few Defenders using the BMW M52 2.8 straight 6 engine that was only sold in that market. It used the BMW gearbox as well, but everything else was off a Rangerover. Really sought after now.
I once helped install a RANGE ROVER P38 4.6 V8 with autobox onto a 110 Pickup. Using the Tornado Chips mod for engine sync to transmission and Lowrange transfer box(from a Discovery 2).
Nice to see a stage 2 One Ten being restored in its distinctive original colour scheme rather than trying to tart it up to look like another late puma and thus loose all the wired early features of the launch models - finish it off with some nice County stripes! They were the best made, only down side was the lack of power but nice job sorting that too - the 110/defender always should have had a straight 6 diesel.
I imagine your water temp sender is mismatched with the clock, hence the high reading. I bought a Defender with a engine conversion that the seller sold as he couldn't fix the over heating issue. It wasn't overheating. £5 fixed the issue with the proper sender to match the clock.
We’ve not used the bmw sender as it’s linked to ECU so we found a plug in on the water jacket and got a sender to fit it - not sure if it’s Land Rover or Merlin motorsport, it’s not calibrated but I know if it moves from where it is we’ve got an over heating problem haha! We’ve got a thermostat in the switch in the top hose so will turn fan on when it’s getting warm :) We’re trail and error with this haha
Nice job, keep the videos coming. What were you growing in the glasshouse? Stuck some sound-absorbing felt inside the roof, you'll be amazed at the effect.
am doing the same thing but i have no idea how the auto box works or what i need to do to get it working is there other extra stuff i need to add or is it a simple plug and play thing does it have to have some kind of speed sensor or is it all taken from the engine itself
i run a couple of 300 tdis and they simply dont cut the mustard in todays road conditions so i am converting one of mine to m57 i do a lot of heavy towning so i need more power,i drove the x5 donor car and i nearly pooped my pants at how powerfull this thing actually was drive a 3l d bmw then you will get it
Beautiful job, but but I feel you should be trying to improve the reliability of the Land Rover, not just increase the power with the engine swap. Maybe something Japanese?

What a beautiful Rover and outstanding job on motor fitment !!!!
Very cool, please keep filming this build. I’m planning on putting this engine & gearbox in my 2 door Range Rover
Thanks, I have some early footage of the build could cobble something together!
@@tomatochaz Got a friend that had a 90 with a BMW 2.8 litre petrol engine in it, that thing flew yet at normal speeds was very civilised.
Nice work looks a good installation, like the classic landrover early one ten paintjob. Look forward to seeing a video of it all complete.

Yess exactly! - the stripes will definitely be going on!
Ohh you've just made a Grenadier.
Brilliant choice of engine, i had a 530D, awesome.
The early 80’s Defenders in Australia had an Isuzu diesel from factory! I would have put a modern Isuzu diesel- hard to break!
Japanese Diesels aren't all that popular in the UK - I would have put a Mercedes or Volvo 5 cylinder in it - better fuel economy and parts availabilty
Love the sound on a m57
That thing will be an animal off road, nice build
That is awesome. GREAT work.
Nice job. Looks a clean install
Nice job! Be a top truck when it’s finished. 🙂👍
Nice work!
One of the dreams that i have is to rebuild land Rover from zero to drive with high performance in the mountains and deserts and snow
landrovers get in ya bllood i started with one i now have 5 and an absolute tonne of parts i am importing 12 doors from china puma ones
Fantastique travail, 👍👍

Это лучший дизель bmw
Can I ask what gearbox you guys are using?
M series engine is and was a great engine wat replaced it was nothing but trouble
I ran my N57 tuned with deletes from 160k to 195k no issues at all
What intercooler are you using? Did you change the turbo, injectors, fuel pump? Thanks for posting.
Standard fitting in South Africa

Tomato
Hi there, we’ve actually just put some in this last few weeks!
We grow Tomato’s in there - the family business :)
looks good that :)

Happy new year to you!
😎👌👌👌
its knocking a lot im sure its sortable though
fingers crossed haha
How it's works the 4x4?
I’m going to upload a video this week explaining all the mods/changes we’ve made to get her running :)
@@tomatochaz
Ok, nice to see all the process
Sorry to be pedantic but thats not a Defender it's a Series III
Top half series 3 and bottom half coil springs ahah
Why put a BMW engine in it?
Can I get this into my old discovery
Hiya, we know wiseman engineering have put one in a disco 3 but not sure on the disco 1/2s!
Why put in complexity? I would have put a 300tdi in it for simplicity and reliability.

What's the tractor on axle stands?
It’s a David brown 990 - half way through its restoration at the moment
@@tomatochaz Are we going to get a video on it?
@@tomatochaz Love to see it? You have a very nice Leyland tractor too, I see!
gotta be better than the new ineos this

Q plate then lol
Sounds like a total wreck and it looks worse.
