Things I didn't have time to talk about/draw but wanted to mention:
-when the curtains fell during intermission we liked to dance goofily in the dark right on the stage to get rid of the stage fright jitters in preparation for act 2 haha
-group trip to Denny's after the last day of the shows. Every time.

My school would cancel it bruh
If it EVEN DID THEATER FROM THE BEGINNING
I love how they decided that they went “not enough guys? Just make it gay!” I love that we can do that more without it being wrong
That is an interesting way of solving the issue. Wouldn't have work in my elementary school because it was a private Christian school and my high schools had plenty of guys interested in the theatre and arts. Still, I have seen girls play guy roles because we had a lot more girls in our year. One year, the Christmas pageant had three girls (I was one of them) playing the Three Kings.
Because love isn't tethered by gender. XD
My school cut a gay character from the script because it was “controversial” smh

Dear god those chocolate bars unlocked a deep memory of being forced to sell as many as possible
Those things are pretty rigged, aren't they? A bunch of kids each has to cater to the same audience with not much of a way to make their stuff more appealing to buy since IIRC you can neither change the price nor the product sold, so you can only really get ahead (and get the prizes for selling a certain amount) by buying your own product, not to mention the fact that 8-year-old kids don't exactly get their own money to spend so they have to ask their parents, further reducing your audience, so unless you try to cater to a different audience by selling to the public (which your parents might not approve of and is hard to do) you can't really do much to fundraise other than, as I said, buy your own stock.
THEY ALWAYS SMELT LIKE HOT COCO POWDER

And me buying at least 4 bars a day when classmates were selling them. I swear, this is almost like drug dealing, except the habit is more pleasant and tasty.
I joined theatre for the 1st time in 7th grade, when my general anxiety about stuff was at its peak. and I gotta say, something about the way you just drop your shame at the door when you step into a meeting really helped me. like, if you look or feel stupid, chances are so does everyone else and it's honestly so fun
I love theater. It is my main hobby besides singing and it’s kind of like therapy. I love the feeling at the very end with the audience clapping and cheering. It always makes me smile out of sentiment at how far we’ve come with the show

I love hearing people's experiences with high school theatre, as a techie and music performer myself!
No way, you did Comedy of Errors! I did too! We combined it with Loves Labors Lost as a two week intensive during the summer. Yeah, we learned everything in two weeks and then performed at the end. I was cast at the Governor's Wife.
What you described for the scene where Antipholus threatens to claw out Adrianna's eyes sounds a lot like how it was directed in my production. The more we practiced it, the angrier and more intense it got. I think it really added to things. The rest of the play is really hilarious, and then you get this, where things are suddenly very real.
Whoa you had someone refuse to learn their lines and then drop out days before the show too? That's so funnnnnnnnnnn 🙃

I agree, theatre is really a good extra-curricular activity (even for those who does not like acting/performing). I just wanted to say that theatre is not limited to performing alone. (I was part of a mini-theatre production in our school once; a stage manager to be precise). For those who has stage fright or bad at acting (like me), you can always try backstage roles like director, stage manager, dramaturg, production designer, etc. They are a bit overlooked per se.

I did my first musical this year! We’re a small town, so we cast everyone, and it was really fun. And then the teacher who’s directed for about the last 5 years was fired. Coincidentally, this teacher taught choir as well as part of speech and directed colorguard. Great.

I go to a large school with a VERY competitive drama program, and very soon I’ll be attending another school with an even more competitive one. Already, the current cast I’m in is about 60 people, and about 70 were cut. I saw "The comedy of errors" but it was all modern and part of it was in Spanish as well as a role that acted in the audience (that also spoke primarily in Spanish) to encourage audience members to comment on the play, it was really fun. It was part of an event that a local theater was doing where they did a bunch of musicals.

I can relate so hard to this one. I took theater just recently in my senior year - and it was the best decisions I had ever made. I was in a Shakespeare play before, so I know how hard it is to learn. We also had someone who didn't show up a lot, but that was mainly because he couldn't, and yet he was amazing during the show along with being a main character for one of the 3 groups (We were doing Midsummer Nights Dream, so there's a lot going on).
Theatre is a blessing and it gives you so many skills that can help you in life. Thank you for sharing your theatre experience!
Your theatre experiences sound like if my theatre experiences went the way I wanted them to go. For example when I did a Shakespeare play the director decided to modernize it so we didn't get to wear period costumes, when I was an understudy the person I was understudying for didn't miss a single rehearsal let alone a show, and the person who was forgetting lines after everyone else was completely off book was a teacher who just cast herself in the play so she never dropped out.

The fact that your teacher made your friend play an LGBTQ+ character and her accepting it, both doing it without a problem, even as a backup plan because of the genders, really shows that teaching your kid about the LGBTQ+ community isn't that big of a deal.
Yes, but that’s high school. If you’re forcing this upon little kids you’re just gonna confuse them and they might make decisions they could regret in the future. It’s the same reason people don’t let little kids get permanent tattoos.
@@oinkitysploink2213 but how does teaching them about it do any harm it does not hurt them it teaches them knew stuff that could help them from having a real hard time later down the line and if they think there one thing unlike a tatoo it can change ya know so they can just later decide ya know what I was that back then but I have changed and am now this
@@oinkitysploink2213 Telling them LGBTQ people exist and that it's okay isn't forcing anything. There's a lot of differences here.
1. Your orientation isn't a choice, who you date is but if we're talking about younger kids they hopefully aren't dating anyways.
2. I'm good with telling kids that tattoos exist and that people who have them are fine.
3. Tattoos are a problem because they permanently change your body forever. Labels are fine and all but if you think you're a lesbian and later realize you aren't it's not like there's a law against saying "oops nevermind". Again going with the analogy if my kid puts on a temporary tattoo and changes it later then that's fine, being young is all about exploring who you are anyways.
@@stars4809 what’s the point of even teaching them if they don’t even understand what any form of sexuality is yet? Just like current sex Ed in schools, It’s best to wait until they’re in fifth grade at the earliest, I say.
@@oinkitysploink2213 cause on the off chance they do feel attraction to someone you don’t want them feeling like something is wrong with them and they gotta change and also lgbtqia+ is not just orientation there are genders too which many kids can find out pretty young with the right Information
