Nice review of the Speed Twin 900. As much as you might not understand it, I'm actually a potential buyer of that bike. Actually, I'm more inclined to get a T100 Bonnie (I like the spoke wheels). I'm not sure why you motor writers are confused by Triumph offering basically the same bike in 900 and 1200cc. Harley Sportster...hello? Everyone always wants more power, but a smaller engine has its advantages too. My **three** 883 Sportsters all got a lot better gas mileage than my 1200. I have both an 883 and a 1200 right now - guess which one I'm selling? The 1200. Yes, it's "faster" than the 883 but "fast" and "Sportster" are words that don't go together. I can't remember the last time I **had** to use full throttle on any of my 883s. I don't imagine that I'll be using it on a 900cc Triumph.
Funny, I actually liked the Sportster 1200 over the 883. The little extra torque was nice around town or on the highway. But hey, we all like what we like, and I'm glad the 883 and the Speed Twin 900 speak to you.
I’ve got the 23 Speed Twin 900. Done 6,000 miles in France, Belgium, Germany, around Scotland, the Isle of Man and a surprisingly quick track day at Mallory Park. Excellent handling, braking, all-round performance and even with the 12 litre tank, a touring range around 190 miles because average fuel consumption has been 71.6 mpg. All-day comfortable. Can’t think of anywhere that I could have done much with the extra power of the 1200. I was keen to see the new model, I often change my bike at three years, which would be end of 25. Had a good look at the Bike Live Show. Nothing wrong with upside down forks, but the dents in the tank to give clearance on full lock look as if they have been done with a hammer. The new seat is too narrow, sat on it my knees were out in the air, inches from the tank. They would have done better to widen the tank and give it a few more litres. Compared to my bike, less comfortable. As it is now, my bike had the optional rubber knee pads because the tank was already narrower than it needs to be, and I’m not bowlegged. The forks and brakes might be a bit better, but they were already good enough. For me, they’ve spoiled it.
Pretty good review, but saying the 900 and 1200 are close in power is a gross exaggeration. Only people who say that are 900 twin owners in denial. The 1200cc twin is leagues above the 900 in power and torque. My Speed Twin 1200 made 96whp/89lb-ft of torque on the dyno. A 900 would be lucky to get over 60whp/60lb-ft. If you heard it from some random dude on the internet, please leave it out of your video.
Good review, thank you. If you are looking at the 900 and this video you understand the difference between the 900 and 1200. Power, size, riding position and cost all major factors. Just review the 900 for what it is!
I agree with your observation at the end of the video. The Speed Twin 900 is now a smaller version of the 1200. I think before the Speed Twin 900 was more of a transition bike from the Bonneville T100 to the more modern classic bikes. I preferred the 900 being in between the T100 and 1200. I just recently purchased a 2024 Speed Twin 900 back at the beginning of October. I suspected they would change the 900 for 2025, I just wasn’t sure how much Triumph would change it. I am so glad that I was able to purchase the 2024 version of the Speed Twin 900.
To say the key distinction between the 900 and 1200 is that the 900 is smaller is simply incorrect. They both weigh about the same and the wheelbase on the 900 is actually longer. The 1200 has a smaller cockpit due to its sportier bar and peg position.
For country back lanes the 900 motor is a peach .Less hp better gas mileage . One brake up front so lighter for turning in . I love the gearing on my Street Scrambler and ringing more out of a smaller engine on back roads is realy fun .I am more interested in the larger frame on the T100 and as an older rider I would go for that bike over the speed twin .As always the answer comes down to what the rider wants to do with a bike . I am not riding two up much anymore .I like the better gas mileage and the lighter ride .With the SS900 I also like that the pipe is not in the way for doing chain work .I have 20K on the clock and really love the 900 motor ... In fact mine is the 2017 model so lower HP and still 56 MPG us .Thanks for your look at this wonderful platform ..Yours Guy
Wenn ich mir deine Fahrkünste so anschaue, hast du m.M.n. das Konzept des Bikes nicht richtig verstanden. Hochschalten und auf der Drehmomentwelle surfen ist das Geheimnis.
maybe it's just a habit, but at the moment I'm glad I have the 2024 model. I prefer a more classic look (but I find the look of the T100 and T120 models very outdated) and I'm not sure if it makes sense to move the speedometer off the axis of the machine - from a design point of view it doesn't really appeal to me. But maybe the younger generation of riders wants it that way and Triumph will be successful with this modernization. Otherwise I would be interested to see how much the tuning of the Speed Twin 900 motorcycle has changed, because previous years had significantly differently tuned Speed Twin 900 and Speed Twin 1200 models. The Speed Twin 1200 was recognized as significantly sportier and less pleasant for ordinary everyday fun riding. Thanks for the review.
Hey Troy, I always enjoy your reviews, but "No man's land"? I don't understand that. Is the Kawi Z650 in 'no man's land' since they have a Z450 and a Z950? The Yam MT-07 too? IMO, not having something between the 400 and 1200 would be crazy. Also IMO, we need more bikes in 'no man's land' (both for rideability and for cost).
Yeah, fair. Except IMO the Z650 and MT-07 feel distinctly different from the bikes above and below it. It seems the 900 here is a little close to the 1200.
Nice review. Detailed and well compared with the previous gen. But Please grow a little bit of moustache. You look weird with no moustache and that beard. Or you can get rid of the beard.
Triumph builds beautiful bikes. Love this Speed Twin.

Just perfectly updated for more sporty ride

Do pegs scrape easily when in the twisties with this model?

Nice review. Nice budget bike, but couldn't they have painted the swing arm black? Looks odd hanging out there on it's own in silver.
Like the simple classic look wish they put the 765 or even the 660 triple on it.

You didn’t mention anything about the cruise control and i can see the button there!!! Lol
It's optional
@ i know but it wasn’t mentioned which is a huge if not thr only update that matters.
I would have liked a sport mode and 17" front, 10-15 more horsepower would have been nice. Oh well, Triumph does what it wants I guess.
Agreed
Look at their recent dashes 🤷🏿♂️
if you are under 5.10,its good
Nice review. Detailed and well compared with the previous gen.

Or you can get rid of the beard.
Ha! I look even weirder with a moustache.
zu wenig Hubraum !
