I like this a lot. I'm a compulsive poster but I rarely spend time on the platform beyond that. Still the fact that I use IG as my scrapbook is not something I'm entirely comfortable with and I wonder sometimes if I didn't have the app and just printed or found another way of putting work out if I wouldn't be more satisfied and ultimately more productive.
It's definitely possible! You made me consider this, and I think it's likely to some degree. We naturally gravitate towards the easier ways of doing things.
Personal Problems with Instagram 1. Time waste in Reels 2. Lack of engagement. After 10 years and 1000s of photos no one seems to be seeing my photos 3. Just too big of a platform. Even if we follow great photographers they are just so many of them we follow we end up not seeing most of their work
I agree with your points. I try to keep an awareness to myself not just in terms of time spent on the platform but also on how much I let it dictate what or how I shoot. Which can be as damaging as the time lost in there. To be influenced by an artist, a book is fine, but on Instagram, the aesthetics are heavily followed by the like count of the number of followers and that can be harmful on one's journey good video Hashem!
Yeah, everything you walked through makes sense. The same is true for RUclips btw... The main thing bothering me about IG is the amount of filth, scams and spam on the platform. And IG doesn't even enforce their community rules consistently, reporting obvious spam accounts and bots is a total waste of time.
One of the best videos to put things into perspective, tbh. Glad also that you touched on a little bit on how the app is designed. It’s designed keep you hooked :) it’s nice to bring this into awareness. Always looking forward to your videos :)
oh by the way, recently I have started using Flickr more - especially when looking for high-resolution sample photos of some cameras or lenses. it has been an interesting exercise. The only remark is the frequency of nude you get over there - something to be aware when you are browsing Flickr for sure
I look at Instagram like this....I've seen a Leica new M6 in a pasture as I'm hiking...but before I get to it, a cow does a massive, nasty dump on it. Do I want to get thru the crap to get to the gem?
The problem with instagram is that it gets tiring with the trends. Unfortunately the style I shoot became very trendy so I totally lost motivation to post or even look at instagram, because what is the point?

Tumblr is such a hidden treasure…It’s still around!

Yeah it's gotten so frequent that I think I've become desensitised to it!

They certainly are designed that way! Thank you 🙂

Nice, I still have an account there that I used for a few years from around 2010 😅

For a new M6, I might. Not for a photo :)
😂 yikes

Yeah, I guess most trends come and go in waves
