    Thank you!!! I’m a 6”1 male I’ve always had this problem with pants and jeans I buy. Right below my knee my pants will twist inwards causing the outer seam to sit around my shin bone and the inner bottom seam will start to point up and back towards my heal. I thought it was because my legs bow from the knee a bit. I’ve been buying 34 30s because a 32 inseam is too long for my legs and bunches up a lot at the ankle. But I noticed if I sag my pants at the waist a bit the bottoms level out. I guess I have to just start buying 32 inseam pants and get the length adjusted.

      My pleasure! Without seeing what's going on... If the hem levels out when you pull the waistband down... it may be that you need more length in the rise ... You can accomplish this by adding a gusset in the crotch/inseam ...Check this tutorial out: ruclips.net/video/XmGpr9Ufp2g/видео.html Thanks for fitting along with me

    thank you for making such informative videos! i'm thinking about making an L shaped adjustment, but how do you determine how far you spread the pattern piece?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад +1

      Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by an L Shaped adjustment. If you're referring to spreading the inseam, I usually start with a 1/2" then fine-tune adjust from there. (It's better to get more than less because you can pleat out any excess that you added... easier than trying to add more). Hope this helps! Thanks for fitting along with me

    I have the opposite problem. My inseam is too long and the hem hikes up at the side seam. Trying to adjust at the hem doesn’t work well. I think it may be that my high hip area is taking up more room at the side seam, but measuring inseam and out seam doesn’t seem to fix the problem. Please advise how to correct this in a pattern alteration as well as after the fact. Very frustrating.

      Have you tried lengthening the side seams above the crotch level... either by adding length at the top or by slashing the leg horizontally above the crotch and spreading the front/back side seams equally. If you're also getting smile shaped wrinkles on both sides of your back view, that's a classic sign that the side seams are too short or pulled up too high! Hope this helps, thanks for fitting along with me

    Hi Jen! Great instruction as always! ❤😊 I'm fitting my pair of your pattern "stretch jeans made easy" and I have wrinkles very similar to those of this video. I'm just worried about the possibility of adding too much lenght to the side seam when you 1. Are trueing the waistline adding to its high at the side, 2. Are redrawing the side seam curving it more than it was before. I suspect that my side seam is already too long (I have inward rotation of the knees) So, can I avoid those 2 adjustments that I mentioned before? Thank you for your help!❤

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад

      Adding to the side seam by either adding to the top of the side seam or curving the side seam at the hip can cause these diagonal wrinkles... IF your body doesn't take up the length. If you hip fills up the curve, then it should not cause this problem. Hope this helps!

    Is there a way to adjust a ready to wear garment where the inseam is too short?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад

      You can use this method of adding a gusset to add length. If your pants have back patch pockets... You can harvest fabric from the pant under the pocket. Cut out a gusset shape and patch it with fabric (no one will ever see it). Then you'll have matching fabric for the gusset! ruclips.net/video/XmGpr9Ufp2g/видео.html Hope this helps!

    Jen, Is it reasonable to need to add 1.5” to the inseam? That’s about how much difference there is in my inseam hem from the floor versus my side seam hem from the floor. Is there such a thing as adding too much to the inseam? Then, does skimming off the side seam and adding to the inseam change the grainline?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад +1

      Yes, If you think you need that much, add it. The good news is that if it turns out to be too much, you can pleat some back out. Re establish the grainline by finding the middle of the leg below the adjustment... and extend it back up to the waistline edge. Typically, you would add to the inseam and take away from the side seam if you need more room along your inseam and less along the side seam. To "straighten" the grainline (if the top of the vertical grainline is too close to the CB edge... Add to the straight part of the CB seam and take away from the side seam from waist to crotch level. :) Hope this helps... Thanks for fitting along with me

    Do you have any videos talking about when I follow drafting instructions and then the inseams are different lengths? Am I just too fat?

    • @ArielLothlorien
      @ArielLothlorien 2 года назад +1

      To be clear I mean the front Inseam is shorter than the back Inseam when I walk it out

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 года назад

      When you draft your own pants pattern, the most common reason for the inseams not being equal length is the shape or curve of the inseam from the crotch point. I'm guessing that your back inseam is curved and the front is significantly straighter... Try balancing the shapes of the inseams to make them equal in length. :) Hope this helps

    Is there a way to Shorten the inseam on ready-to- -wear mens trousers?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 года назад

      To shorten the inseams from the top end, you can sew deeper (below) the crotch curve... Stitching lower across the inseams shortens them & will pull up the extra length. Hope this helps!

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад

      To shift the inseam backward, You can extend the front crotch/inseam to the hem and trim the back crotch/inseam to the hem... Here's a tutorial for that! Thanks for fitting along with me. ruclips.net/video/4J_ttXfipTs/видео.html

    I like the idea of adding length to the inner leg beneath the crotch. However, if I were to redraw the waist line at the new, higher point, then wouldn't i be changing the back crotch measurement and perhaps adding fitting issues to the crotch area?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 года назад

      If you "cut out" the crotch (by slashing vertically from the waistline down below the crotch and then slash horizontally at the inseam to the vertical slash), you are not affecting the length of the back crotch... you're just sliding it up to spread the inseam. This makes the back waistline edge higher. True up waistline by drawing a new line from the raised section, blending back to the original waistline edge at the side seam. When you try on your new fit muslin, you can trim off any excess length at CB waistline if you need to.
