  • www.surefitdesigns.com and www.sfdlearningcenter.com In this tutorial, see how to take your total crotch length measurement and divide it appropriately for a shorter front crotch and longer back crotch length. Typically, you are at least 2” longer in the back than in the front crotch length. The Sure-Fit Designs™ Pants Kit provides an easy fitting, designing and sewing system that allows you to blueprint your body shape and size, which results in a personalized fit -- your personal sloper. Learn how the Sure-Fit Designs™ fitting, sewing and designing system can benefit you to achieve a well-fitting pattern for pants, blouses, skirts, dresses, jackets, shirts, children's wear and men's pants. At www.sfdLearningCenter.com, you'll find free sewing and fitting assistance with complete instructional content. The Sure-Fit Designs™ fitting and sewing system is based on your unique body shape and measurements. The master patterns range from 28" to 62" (71 cm -- 157.5cm) in your bust and hip area. Your body blueprint (sloper) will fit; the resulting patterns will fit. Great for full figure and plus size pattern making.

An alternative is to use 2 measuring tapes. Attach them at the islet so that the 0 mark is at your center crotch. The hanging weight will help you determine center crotch position. Then merely read the number at the front waist and back waist. The number you read will be exactly what is needed in the front and back. To check your work, use a single tape measure to determine the total. The front + back measurements should equal your total. This will allow you determine if you need the "sit down" adjustment to the front or back depending on how much you need to move the tape during your testing. This has helped with making adjustments for my rear "pancake."

      @s.fuhrmann 5 лет назад

I couldn't figure out any other way to do it other than use two tapes measures. Its the only way to get zeros together unless her tape measure is very different from the 5 I have laying around here. I also have a pancake rear. All my extra inches are in my front

Hi, I found a way to ensure that the center of the measuring tape goes exactly to the center at the inseam. I got an old pair of tights and attached a small magnet inside where the inseams meet. then I glued another magnet at 0.on the Crotch-O-Meter. That way the center of the COM goes right to the center where my inseams join.

    hi mam...IMPORTANT QUESTION...
first of all thanks for your wonderful explaination...
    my QUESTION is... :
crotch riser is in the arc line form... and we measure it in the arc length form only and not in straight line manner...
so how to calculate it that how much this crotch point must be exactly below the belt line
ie how to calculate VERTICAL DISTANCE from belt to the crotch center point in vertical straight form... as it is in the arc form... ???

RUclipss greatest tutorial. Amazing. No one else explains this.
The cross under the body is ALWAYS misaligned on me. both generic pants and tailored. I've been measuring wrong. Never understood where there cross is supposed to be.
Why didn't you measure to the top of the waistband? And why was the cross point fixed on the measuring band? Shouldn't it be 'floating' so that it glides to the center underneath the body.
Anyway. GREAT video. Thanks a bunch.

    • @surefitdesigns

I measure to the bottom of the 'waistband' because that is where the side seam intersects with the band.

I am not a seamstress, but I cannot buy pants/shorts that both fit my back and my front without any weird spaces. I am a weight-lifter with a lean athletic build and strong thick thighs and glutes, so my back and front measurements are really different! (i.e., if it fits my bottom, I have a huge space in the front and the fabric is slouchy, and if it fits my front I'm at risk of ripping stitches in the back! Not flattering AT ALL) Your videos have been so helpful in figuring out why the heck none of the patterns I use (or draft) fit properly. Subscribed!

I too my measurements 3 times looking in the mirror to be sure I had the plumb line in the middle. 8-1/2 front, 16-1/4 in the back. Have I done it wrong? I have the elastic at a comfortable spot in my waist and measured to the bottom of the 2” elastic.
Again thanks for this video. Soon I’ll have pants that actually fit. 😊

If I've offended you, please accept my apology. Lots of ladies have full tummies and flat backsides and this is just one way to tell if it pertains to your unique shape.
