The French have long dreamt of an EU controlled by Paris. The Germans have long dreamt of a France controlled by Berlin. The Poles don't dream. They instead have nightmares of all the times they have been invaded and forcibly suppressed throughout their history. And because of those nightmares, they have worked hard to become economically and militarily strong. Kudos to the Poles.
This is actually wrong. Poles had and have big dreams. Or even illusions. Often in history they aimed for positions they couldn't get and it bites them in de ass. I wonder if this happenns again.
They are impressive but if they tear Europe apart, they will weaken themselves and everyone around them to the benefit of China, Russia and the USA which is not in their national interest.

There is a division between what the Poles think, like there would be anywhere else. There are people that grew too comfortable with the long-lasting peace and live in the bubble that 'no one will attack Poland, so it's a waste', while there are also those that wish to learn from history and realize that a promise is not worth the ink to write it on paper, so peace for Poland will only last as long as Poland will have the strength to deter anyone from attacking it. This idea can be seen clearly in how EU plays an economic warfare with Poland (pressuring Poland one-sidedly for trying to implement laws that are operational for years in other countries, like Germany, with EU completely ignoring or downplaying them for said other countries). Polish economy is not strong enough right now to defend itself against that but it is growing, so they are trying to suppress it. This same thing would happen with physical warfare at some point if Poland will not have a strong enough military.

It might, Poland's economy is on the path to be in 10 years catching up to UK in GDP per capita numbers. EU's policy influence is solely based on population and economy size.
I don't really agree that eastern Europe lack a voice in the EU, but I agree that France and Germany definitely are the two heavy weights. 7:35 diversyfying Warsaw's military suppliers away from Washington- it's not about going away from Washington, it's about going away from France and Germany
Of course going away from those two means Poland instead becomes incredibly dependent on what the USA and such wants instead. They arguably would have had more leverage and local military industry if they'd taken some deals with for instance the French and Germans, who certainly have been willing to build local production and support historically. So in that sense it kind of feels like spiting them... and then actually failing at your actual real defense goals and remaining a dependent instead because everyone else actually offers worse deals.

@@AndrzejMakowski-hp9nk Conquering Vienna is not the end of Europe by any stretch of imagination. The Ottomans were very strong but even Vienna is hard for their logistics let alone further. What are they gonna do when they end up going in northern side of Alps? Their supply line so long and vulnerable. The believe that someone is unbeatable doesn't work for too long. What Stalin said doesn't matter much. Poland is just 1 of them countries located on European plain and may claim it's a gate towards west Europe. No such thing for S Europe. Look man. Germans and French play power and money game. Poland implement defence plan. Germans and French utter about Nato purchasing non-Nato produced defence systems. But they updated their products with the highest ever cost with indefensible delays. Some systems (eg Leo2A8) had minor update with more than 40% price hike. German and French talk about European and Nato solidarity. But many Russian weapons operate with French and German key components. German and French talk about European independence. But Germany was the nation with highest Russian energy dependency and French were the nation with highest military export to Russia. Germany and France emphasised the firn Global stance against Russian aggression. Germans dragged their feet with each and every step in supporting the victim with deference capabilities. French insisted on only European made (what they really mean was French made) ammunitions to be supplied by EU to Ukraine which will take at least a year to even set up the production capacity (albeit horrendous bureaucracy). Name one reason why Poland or other nations should trust Germany or France.
We want to show the rest of Europe what a real taste of freedom means, especially after 50 years of low existence in the Soviet block. Even today, I feel a cold sweat on my buttocks when I think about those 50 years of stupidity when red ideology killed reason.
@@idinv5641 Your response ignores the context of the discussion... Let's recap: This is the part that the original poster wrote that you responded to. > Name one reason why Poland or other nations should trust Germany or France. This is your response, basically saying that Poland should trust Germany because Germany, through the laws of EU, invested in Poland. > Maybe because Germany extremely invested in Poland since they are a part of the EU This is my response showing that it's not a one-way street, and that Germany is already seeing returns on said investment. > That investment was by far returned in the cheap labor and products that Germany got in return. Nothing you wrote in your second comment is in any way related to any of the above. The discussion is about the 'trust', and 'trust' is not tested in a mutually-beneficial situation. Trust is tested when one side 'pays' so that another side 'doesn't lose' in a pinch. Poland doesn't have any reason to trust Germany, or most of the EU for that matter. What Poland receives is based on contractual obligations that are foundations of the Union, and that are made for mutual interest. Even then, EU literally breaks its own laws and founding ideals just to suppress Poland for political reasons. They have back-stabbed Poland several times, basically year after year.
- Poland is the single biggest recipient of EU funding, with Germany and France being the top contributors. - France was the single biggest seller of military equipment to Ukraine from 2014 to 2020 - again, bought with donated EU funds. - EU is the top contributor to Ukraine since the invasion. - Leopard tanks are on the ground, Abrams are still nowhere to be seen. - 3 million Polish live in Germany. - France and Germany are two of Polands top 3 export markets. - France is the largest contributor of foreign direct investment in Poland. The French companies with the largest presence in Poland include Orange, Vivendi, Carrefour, Casino, Crédit Agricole, Saint Gobain and Auchan. Thats 7.

Another very interesting, and delicately nuanced video. As mentioned, the relationships among Germany/Prussia, Poland and Russia/USSR go back centuries, and have more often been hostile than otherwise. Poland and South Korea have a similar geopolitical problem, surrounded by still powerful ancient enemies, and in need of an ally powerful enough to deter the old enemies, but far enough away not itself to be a danger to the country's autonomy. It's not surprising that they have reached the same conclusion, alliance with the US. The friendly relationship between the US and Poland goes back to the War of Independence when two Polish military men, Casimir Pulaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko came to teach our military and help us gain independence. Dziękuję Polsko! Przyjaciele na zawsze, niech strzegą się nasi wspólni wrogowie!
I would push back on the whole "Poland was bossed around for centuries" narrative. Yes, the 19th and the 20th centuries weren't too kind for us but before that in Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth we were the biggest country in Europe, had an unbeaten cavalry for close to 200 years and we were the dominant force, rescuing the European civilisation on a couple of occasions. Austrians didn't invade us because of the mountains separating us, Turks didn't get near. We only lost when both Prussia/Germany and Russia attacked us simultenously because we could defend against either of them when they tried solo. Even after the WW1, after 123 years or partition we could still fend of the Soviets in the Polish-Soviet war. So you know, quit with the victimization of Poland. In the end we always come out on top. When it comes to majors (not including some regular border skirmishes with neighbous) i.e. when the country was actually defeated, then over 1000 years we only lost to Ghengis Khan, and doube act of Hitler & Stalin. That's not a bad score.
Germany becoming a serious military player in Europe would actually be very good for Poland. Especially if they could run a large scale production of munitions and get our military industrial complex involved in some of these bleeding-edge programmes (I mean... even Spain gets involved in them, but never Poland :/ )
@@SkywalkerWroc Germany supporting Polish rearmament would seem like a no-brainer, but between Rheinmetall/KMW and PGZ, it seems like they have difficulty getting along. Big opportunity for Hanwha, I guess.
I am Polish. I do not care even a little bit if Poland is considered to be a “Great Power”. I care about Poland’s prosperity and safety- not how its status is perceived abroad. I think Poland has done a good job of diversifying its sourcing of military hardware to collaborate with both the USA and also South Korea and Germany. This is very pragmatic because it eliminates dependence on a single alley or source. Poland is also collaborating with S Korea on designs of howitzers and tanks and using this collaboration to develop very capable weapons systems in Poland. Polish Krab howitzers have destroyed significant amounts of Russian military hardware in Ukraine, and Polish Piorun MANPADs have destroyed at least several Russian helicopters and attack airplanes in Ukraine. One area where Poland should improve is small attack drones like Ukraine’s homemade fpv drones. Poland has the engineers and time to develop scalable and intelligent recon and attack drones of various classes, and they should invest now in doing this!
I hope Romania 🇷🇴 follows Poland's 🇵🇱 example and ramps up its military modernization. Romania was always surrounded by big empires and we shouldn't take the period of peace we are living in as a given. Freedom survives through blood and fuel.

The key is the ability of Poland to connect eastern Europe north to south. Connect the Baltic to the Black Sea. Intermare that's the key to counter Russia.
In the years 1600-1700, Poland was an empire, the largest in Europe. It held over 60% of the world's grain exports and boasted an army so fearsome that it didn't lose a MAJOR battle for over 100 years. The country was incredibly wealthy, with some Polish Magnats (Magnats meaning powerful noble families) commanding private armies larger than some countries. So, we were not sandwiched for thousands of years, but rather betrayed by Austrians, Prussians, and Russians, and subjected to over 100 years of oppression. And yes, Poland is still here.

When there is a chance that someone will attack you, better to have gun bought on instalments than have nothing.
Compared to other spendings (like COVID ones) it's not that much 😊
There is a division between what the Poles think, like there would be anywhere else.

Lots of places are heard in Europe, it's voting systems don't allow just a few countries to dominate it. One kind of just has to think back to cases where The Netherlands, Finland, Italy, etc caused things to be delayed or changed.
If it feels like some central European states are getting a lot of complaints thrown to them, well it should also be remembered that Hungary is breaking the EU charter, Poland has done some questionable things concerning EU rules and such as well. That can create a misconception I think of how power really works in Europe.
It might, Poland's economy is on the path to be in 10 years catching up to UK in GDP per capita numbers. EU's policy influence is solely based on population and economy size.
I don't live even close to Europe, but I can see Ukraine joining EU within a decade. Poland will have a close ally in EU.

"Giant". Now. Russia can't project enough power even to force Ukraine to do her bidding. Poland has much less still to worry. Save one thing: Russia has nukes.

@@idinv5641 That investment was by far returned in the cheap labor and products that Germany got in return.
@@idinv5641 Your response ignores the context of the discussion...
Let's recap:
This is the part that the original poster wrote that you responded to.
> Name one reason why Poland or other nations should trust Germany or France.
This is your response, basically saying that Poland should trust Germany because Germany, through the laws of EU, invested in Poland.
> Maybe because Germany extremely invested in Poland since they are a part of the EU
This is my response showing that it's not a one-way street, and that Germany is already seeing returns on said investment.
Thats 7.

Great to have such ally!
The friendly relationship between the US and Poland goes back to the War of Independence when two Polish military men, Casimir Pulaski and
Tadeusz Kościuszko came to teach our military and help us gain independence. Dziękuję Polsko! Przyjaciele na zawsze, niech strzegą się nasi wspólni wrogowie!
@h.h.8433 It's ironic that Ukraine sent one of the biggest amounts of troops among European countries to support the US invasion of Iraq.
@h.h.8433 "US still managed to liberate and democrise them" The Middle East? Are you high?

Poland are defensive against Russia. Because of bad experience from Pax Sovjetum. It has nothing to do with Germany.
Romania has its own military endowment programs. We have been two countries at the gate of Europe for centuries and we will stay here. And if you follow the programs, they are very similar. :) There is a lot to discuss but I don't want to go into details.

Thousands of years of being sandwiched between great powers. Poland is still here
On few occasions, Poland was a great regional power too.
Thousands of years? More like 300 back to King Jan III Sobieski!
