It wasn't just that Pius was giving compassion which is a big character moment for Pius who saw normal humans as weak and not worth their effort, that Guardswoman taught him wrong, but even beyond that, for the Guardswoman, this was the greatest honor she could receive, a angel of the Emperor himself sitting beside her in her final moments and absolving her, letting her know that she did well and is free to go with the Emperor's blessing. This would be comparable to you laying at your death bed and a angel of God coming down to stay beside you as you take your final breath.
Space marines are angels to the normal folk. Imagine you lay dying and a litteral angel came down to comfort you in your final moments. That is what is hapeing with primus and the gardswoman. Its also an invention of this animation and does not apear in the book hance why it has no lines.
It actually happens in the book. He is actually panicking because he doesn't know what to do. He wishes someone else could be near her in her final moments.
As Reclusiarch, as a Chaplain, Grimaldus is essentially a priest... a war-priest. In episode 7, he gives his sermon. His pulpit is the battlements of a city under siege. His congregation are those who fight and kill for the Emperor. And then the battle begins. It's been said that the art style reflects Grimaldus' own state of mind: as battle nears, and once it begins, he gains clarity that he lacked before. As for the weapon; I don't recall any earlier mention of it (I haven't read the book in years), but the animation is based on a *heavily* abridged version of the audio book (the unabridged audio book is 12 hours long), so the animation obviously doesn't include everything.
The style of animation changes based on Grimaldus clarity of thought. He feels uncomfortable outside of battle, so the world becomes hazy and lifeless.
2:00 - Battlefleet Armageddon didn't fall back to the planet, they fell back to the edge of the system. The plan is to regroup and rearm, then to return and take the ork fleet from behind after they've fully committed themselves to the land war. 2:53 - Here comes the greatest motivational speech since the egg salad sandwich. 3:53 - It's not about being cocky: it's about giving encouragement to the guardsmen. Remember that a single ork is easily a match for 2-3 baseline humans in melee, and the ork forces outnumber the Imperials dozens-to-one. By calling the orks dregs and a waste of ammo, he's undermining the fear that the sheer brutal size of the force instils in the guardsmen. When the time comes, the guardsmen wont hesitate to fight because their fear has been lessened. This is Grimaldus literally doing what he was made to do: inspire the troops. 4:24 - I gotta tell you, the one thing I hate about the audio in this story is the ludicrous crowd responses. They aren't real, they aren't natural. It's just the recording of one guy saying the line replayed about 20 times. 7:20 - Now that battle is joined, Grimaldus is more in his element. He doesn't have to worry as much about logistics and deployments and he doesn't have time to worry about his insecurities. Now he gets to do what he was made for, and everything is clearer to him. The improvement in animation reflects this. 10:18 - These are Stormboyz. They're the orks that are in such a hurry to get into da scrap that they literally strap rockets to their backs and aim themselves at the enemy. They're as likely to crash into a tree as make it to the fight, but if they get there, you've got a full-blooded ork within arms reach of you, so if you can't kill it quick, you're dead. 11:18 - Lasguns get a lot of flack for being one of the weakest weapons in a game with giant robot walkers, 60-foot bugs, and demons that can tear a tank in half, but even an ork will have trouble shrugging off a full-auto round to the face. 11:45 - You may notice that there's not a lot of sound in this scene. That's because this scene is actually an original creation of Richard Boylen and does not appear in the audiobook. Arron Dembsky-Bowden, the original author of the Helsreach novel, was asked what he thought about this adaptation and he said that this was his favorite scene. I see others have addressed it in the comments, so I wont waste your time repeating what they've said. 15:10 - Let me point out, this fight wasn't even a REAL battle. This was just the most impatient and blood-crazed orks rushing ahead of the battle plan to krump some 'eads. Like Grimaldus says, the REAL fight won't come until the orks have built up overwhelming numbers. 15:29 - This is the first mention of 'the weapon.' You're not supposed to know anything about it yet, and though we'll get some hints soon, the bug reveal doesn't come until near the story's climax.
If you guys need help to identify the members of the Squad Grimaldus, well here are some characteristics Grimaldus (the chaplain) Cador (the eldest, his helmet looks like a fighter pilot's) Primus (the young one, his helmet looks like a basic space marine helmet and his shoulder pads have the heraldic cross drawn on both of them) Artarion (the banner bearer, also the funny one) Nerovar/Nero (Apothecary/Medic, white armor) Bastilan (Beaky Helmet, the modest sergeant but not a leader type) Oh, and good reaction!
Don't worry, there was no mention before of a weapon under the sand. Grimaldus speaking about it in Ep. 8 is the first mention in the series. Also the color and higher resolution (which gets even better later) reflects Grimaldus becoming more sure of himself and his purpose as the battle continues. (Although I'm sure the success of the series and the creator being able to afford better equipment was a big factor).
Common misconception guys, its understandable. A lot of Ork voidships look like they're crashing when they're actually just landing. That charisma, the inspiration, is ostensibly why the Chaplain Corps exist.
by the way for those that didnt know but during Grimaldus epic speech when the Guard responds to Grimaldus it has been said since thousands upon thousands were saying the same thing at the same time windows shook and shattered by the combining sound waves of thousands upon thousands of guardsman responding in unison
Oh, I love these reactions, Great job guys! I feel that all the lore and insight into this episode was already well explained by the other commenters so I just wanna let you know that i'm here at the edge of my seat each week for the video to come out. Great work!
All chaplains are inspiring iterators who can rouse allied forces to greater feats with just a few words. To clarify on what a reclusiarch actually is, they are the 2nd highest ranking chaplain in a space marine chapter below the high chaplain (also called master of sanctity) who is the head of all chaplains in a chapter. The reclusiarch has two main goals: overseeing the chapter's relics which are stored away in their fortress monastery (space marine HQ) within a chamber called the reclusiam, and also training new chaplains.
“Hurl yourself at these walls inhuman filth, die on our blades. I am Grimaldus of the Black Templars and will cast your carcasses from these holy walls” Chills man OUR CITY, OUR WORLD FOR HELSREACH
Yep, leave it to a Space Marine Chaplain to turn a situation of pure doom into rousing fury against the “worthless” Xenos hordes. One of my favorite battle speeches. Period! The orks with jet packs are called Stormboyz. That guardswoman was basically in disbelief that one the Emperors demigod warriors decided to leave his hand on her chest, to calm her as she died. The “weapon” is something I don’t want to spoil. BUT, I think you will like it

Everytime I would watch helsreach, I still get goosebumps everytime Grimaldus was giving his speech.

If I remember correctly the weapon was first mentioned at this point in the book
This rendition of Grimaldus' speech is what singlehandedly made me decide to collect Black Templar minis.

Honestly, if I can every be as quarter as good of a motiivator as Grimaldus, I can die happy. :p

OUR CITY, OUR WORLD FOR HELSREACH
Grimaldus: ...this is our city!...
Ork historians: Well, aksuali...
That's only a small part of he city. A hive city is MASSIVE
I think it's a bit that the animator became better with time. But it's also a reflection on how Grimaldus sees the world.

Been waiting for this one.
This shows what Chaplains are for and what they do. Great writing, fantastic voicing and beautiful art. It's amazing
Remember when y’all were wondering why the titan was chilling in the desert 🏜 for no reason.
Can you react to Imperium's 10 Worst Jobs by Luetin09
The colours and animation-style vary based on Grimaldus' state of mind.
More of this plz
Nice reaction. Just a heads up, the reaction to 5 and 6 is not in the Warhammer playlist
Bout time, good shiz
