Glad you are finally coming around to see how good the tundra can tow. My 2022 Tundra Platinum pulls my 22ft airstream so easy getting 14-15 mpg on the highway. Yes the tundra is halfway between a half ton truck and a 3/4 ton truck but without the bulky size of a 3/4 ton truck. Very happy with my choice to go the Tundra route.
I’m thoroughly impressed with the towing capability of my ‘23 Capstone! It feels very diesel-like in a 1/2-ton package. It definitely handles trailering better than my 2012 Tundra Platinum CrewMax 5.7v8 but does not even compare to my ‘19 GMC 2500HD Duramax Denali. Thank you for posting this video!
I have a 2019 Silverado and one of my main concerns was what size travel trailer to buy. You have answered all my questions. I am looking at a surveyor travel trailer thanks to you. Great information on your videos. Thanks
I have a 2021 Silverado TrailBoss 5.3 and tow a 27ft Lance TT at 5900 lbs . It tows awesome and I get 11.6 mpg all the time . Live in northern Colo so less than 10 mpg in Tx is not too good . I feel the same as BigTruck that 26 to 27 is max . My truck is rated at 9300 towing and 1625 payload which is perfect for me .
My 2020 ram 1500 pulls a similar sized travel trailer all day. It’s v8 hemi may last longer than the twin turbo, but it’s been back, reliably, for other problems and things broken since I got it. Just had a cracked manifold and leaky third brake light repaired at 39k - and now, looking at the Tundra 😂
I got a 2022 Tundra TRD Sport and looking to buy a trailer in the spring. Not sure if the Sport package will change the suspension or not but I love driving it. Looking forward to traveling the States next year.
Someone had told me that if you have travel trailer you should minus 1/ 3rd of your max tow weight rating because of the the weight of the wind pressing against the trailer simulates added weight that the truck has to pull or at least at highway speeds.
That’s pretty good . My motorhome is two years old and it’s time to replace the deep cycle coach battery. . It’s a no name brand and that said I might as well replace the engine battery as well. Between ford and gulfstream I suspect they are using a lesser quality battery. @@BTBRVReviews
In regards to the tow hooks. They are most definitely required up north. For example I would not take this truck hunting or ice fishing. Even the daily commute in general during winter in Alberta.
I drive a 2014 Toyota Tundra SR5 4x4 5.7l v8 (62,00 miles) that handles our 2023 Transcend Xplor 235BH very well. TT loaded is 6,100 lbs with 725 lb tongue weight with a weight distribution hitch. Handles very well in crosswinds and passing vehicles with little to no sway. Get about 10.6 mpg on flat and 8.9 on mountain roads. Tow haul constant at average of 55mph since we are in California. Seen too many flying by with a 32 ft toy hauler at 65-70 mph. Sorry I am in no hurry. Love my Tundra ! Great video. Be safe !😎
Is there a way to disable the seatbelt constant beeping? My daughter has a new Toyota suv and just to move it around the driveway it drives me crazy if the seatbelt isn’t connected!
I got to the mileage part of 8mpg. That’s terrible towing 6k pounds. I was thinking of a stripped down version of the Tundra to tow my 6800 pound boat. I’ll keep my 04 Dodge 5.9L that I get 24 mpg not towing and 16 towing. Plus the power to climb hills steeper than a bridge in Texas.
I have a 2022 1794. I tow a 7800lb 32ft trailer. Got 10.1mpg pulling from Ga to the Smokies and back. Pulling hills is a breeze. The non-hybrid version of this engine produces 479lb/ft of torque. The 6.4 Hemi only produces 429lb/ft and the 6.6 gas GM only has 464lb/ft. Check out FTL 2022 tundra tow test up the IKe. Pulled 8100 lbs effortlessly. Also turbo engines are better at high altitude. They make up for the loss of air density.
i tow almost everyday with my 23 tundra. in my experience the tundra does a really good job at pulling just about anything powerwise but on large enclosed trailers the truck seems to lack the weight for stability. it very easily gets pushed around past 60 mph with any sort of wind with a large enclosed trailer and the gas milage TANKS with anything enclosed. was getting 9-5 mpg with a smallish enclosed trailer with and without a headwind of 15mph at 70mph this last weekend. sidenote mine is lifted 2/1in with 35/12.5 MT tires with AVS
I despise blue interior lights. Entirely too distracting and reduces your low light visibility outside the vehicle. I haven’t towed our travel trailer yet, but we just recently purchased a ‘22 Tundra SR5 2 wheel drive. The turbo 6 is amazing for unloaded performance. Can’t wait to put our RV behind it to see what it can do. My last vehicle was a 2013 F150 4x4 super crew with the eco boost. The Tundra feels much more powerful and gets around 4 MPG better that the Ford when unloaded. Waiting for new tires for the RV. After the first of the year, we should be taking a trip. Can’t wait. I am really cut how the turbos will fair over long term use. They are usually the weak link in OEM setups and will likely be one of the first items to wear out.
I miss my 1st Gen Tundra but when we got the 5th wheel, we needed to step up to the 3/4 ton. If Toyota made a 3/4 ton I would have went with it instead of my Super Duty but hey, the Super Duty is one heck of a truck too.
I also miss my tundra with the 5.7 L I was maxing out my half ton truck so when the ditched the 5.7 I went with a 2500 HD 6.6 duramax one heck of a truck and towing my same travel trailer with the HD vs my old Tundra is like a dream it is in no bind no sway no bouncing no problem braking just a much better experience towing
Nice review ! couple of questions: do you recommend 2H wheel or 4H wheel drive setting while towing this trailer ? How was your experience when toggled between 2H and 4H ? What’s size hitch ball for the you used for the capstone ?
My 08 has 220k miles with about 100k towing toy haulers, hay rolls, and an occasional skid steer. No issues with transmission, or any part of the truck so far.
I totally agree! The new transmission creates a better spread through the gears with a double overdrive. The old transmission was excellent but mpg suffered with the 4.30 or 3.92 gear ratios I believe... They should have direct and port injected and fine tuned the 5.7 then put there electric motor between the engine and transmission instead of creating new problems with a twin turbo V6... I don't believe these turbo's will make it to a 1 million mile mark more less 200k while being beat down towing. Time will tell but RIP 5.7 I force. Very proven reliable engine that needed a simple refresh to eek out more efficiency torque and hp
Be gone you dinosaurs!!! My 2023 Tundra Capstone already has 80k on it and not a single issue thus far. In fact, I'd say the thing is getting better as the engine breaks in... This will be another truck capable of 1,000,000 miles from Toyota.
I’ve owned two prior gen tundras plus a prior gen sequoia. Recently got the iforce max tundra. This new tundra is far superior to the prior gen. Yes those v8s were sweet. But the mpg was atrocious and the tech was outdated. Upgrades were long overdue. I realize Toyota had some issues with the 2022-23’s but I fully expect the issues are resolved in the 2025’s. The power in the new tundras is really noticeable.
Nice video. Thank you for sharing. I am planning to buy the new Airstream Trade Wind 25 ft. with GVWR of 7300 / dry weight of 6200 / tongue weight of 725. Can this Tundra pull it safely? Your thoughts? TIA.
Looking to buy a 2024 Tundra Limited,I-Force V6(no hybrid) ,Crewmax 5.5' w/TRD pkg & occasionally tow a 25' long travel trailer. I hate parking these trailers and saw a Toyota Tundra video where it parks itself w/ a trailer attached. Only showed inside of truck w/ driver taking his hands off the steering wheel. Does the 2024 Tundra have this feature in the Limited trim & how would I know if it has it by looking at the window sticker & it's features?
im trying to understand why the mpg is in the 9’s, that’s what i get on my 2021 and my trailer dry is 5300lbs, if it gets 16-21 without out towing why wouldn’t that lead to a higher towing mpg?
Idk what you say absolutely makes sense but I feel it's not as cut and dry anymore I have idk maybe 30% more confidence then what I would have 20 yrs ago similar set up. You also have a take away from typical Toyota quality for the engine and one assumes the transmission to a certain effect as well. Yay twin turbos bigger up and torque #'s but you are now pushing more out of a smaller engine
Not sure this is true. If you don't believe Toyota, Ford, GM, and RAM don't do insanely crazy towing longevity tests on all their truck platforms, you're probably miss informed.

You will LOVE a Tundra. I have had two, and both have had NO reliability issues at all.
You actually got more than 37k miles on that Hemi. Impressive.
I wish Toyota would get in the 3/4 or 1 ton market. I love my Cummins pulling my RV, but it is wrapped in a Ram.
imagine a 3/4 ton Toyota with a Twin Turbo V8 hybrid.
Yea Toyota should definitely go with a 3/4 ton. They would sell like crazy.
I’ve got a place in Port A. I’ve been off RUclips for a while. I’ve missed your content!! Cheers and happy new year.
I really like Toyota trucks. I'v had five of them over the years and had no problems at all. I really like the interior lighting !

Y'all don't look stressed at all....😂 Love your videos!
Tow hook and a Warn winch. Then you are never stuck, just temporarily detained.
Need to do a test with the non hybrid tundra engine
Buy the Carista OBD scanner tool and you can turn those seatbelt alarms off!! best $40 Ive spent.
I would be curious as to how long his coach battery’s last.
Without using the AC, I can keep the lights on and even the vent fan on for hours.

So nobody up there drives a sedan or sports car unless it has tow hooks on the front of it? Gotcha👌

I’m about to try this with the sequoia for a short trip. 35’ travel trailer about 8k lbs.
When not towing put it in “comfort” mode and the truck will float down the highway like a luxury sports car.
What type of MPG are you getting? How does it tow going up a hill? Texas is flat compared to the Appalachian Mountain area where I am often towing.

Worse thing Toyota has done, should have given the 5.7 a better transmission rather than drop it. Such a great, powerful, reliable engine, rip.

How useful is the trailer back up assistance ? does it just back up in a straight line?
That mileage is no better than my 16, pulling a 30ft, 6000lb. 9mpg towing/ city, hwy 15mpg.

Twin turbos will have a negative effect concerning lifespan of the engine. Toyota trucks won’t last as long as the older V8 models.
plus repairs will be way more expensive
Genuinely curious: when what was this data last updated? Has this been shown in modern trucks to be true?
