  • Before techniques come principles. Here I review the principles of dealing with a knife in close quarters and confined spaces. In this specific instance - a bus. The principles shown here can easily apply to fighting in an airplane, car, and anywhere else where movement is limited. This video was taken as part of the Krav Maga Israel training camp which takes place several times a year in Tel Aviv. For more information visit: www.kravmagaisrael.com

What do you do when the attacker is fighting back?

Great question. You punch them really hard in the face repeatedly. The problem is, when I do that to my students they become a bit hesitant to volunteer for demonstrations.
I now understand it may have not been obvious to everyone on the internet. So that there is no doubt - when someone has real intent to hurt you, you can hurt them back. As for your training partners, they get irritated when you break their teeth in class. Hope this is now a bit more clear.

@@RonEngelmanKM what if you give them training partners a real knife, maybe they wouldn’t be so hesitant if you hitting them in the face

question. when knife is across your throat [ about 4:45 mark] how come you do not fold the bad guy elbow in using their own body weight, they would fall on their own knife.

I'm not against that solution. But pusing the knife away from you is more natural than pinning it on your body. When dealing with a high risk, high intensity threat, natural responses are critical. Secondly, in the bus, I have the advantage of being able to pin his arm against the seat, or a wall. Pinning the knife on your body and folding their elbow in will work some of the time. But if they are strong or resisiting it will be a proble. Punching them first will help though.

How do account for breaking your hand with punches against the attacker’s hard skull? There has to be a better way of creating debilitating injury on the attacker without destroying your own ability to stay in the fight.

To the face I generally prefer to punch. If I am hitting to the head or unsure, I can strike with an open palm.

Based on my experiences criminals have almost never come alone ... And they are not dumbs ... And the technique is amateur ...
