This kinda thing is why I just laugh at most "tier list" discussions these days; people act like the game is 100% found out when it's barely explored. I love your takes on stuff, they're refreshing to hear ^^
I'm a baiken main. I wanna win a lot of tournaments and mayors too. I know always will exist a "correct and optimal way to use one character" but that shouldn't limit you in what you can learn or try. For example, my favorite players are umisho and tempest, even though they use a complete archetipe of characters, at the same time in their gameplay is where I learned the most of things I can use on my playstyle. The thing is I consider you need PASSION and love for your game, and mainly for *your characther* to always (almost) have the motivation to take, explore, learn and use; the tips you can see in other players, the guides of the optimal gameplan of your caracther and the labbing you can do for fun in training mode. It's the magic of fighting games; find your own way
Ay yo shout outs to you bro, this video kind of encapsulates a lot of internal feelings I've had about fighting games and my enjoyment with them. Imma see if I can gas up this video a little bit.
I feel this with every game. Who cares what the best things you can do are? If there's something that makes you win every game, it gets boring. If there's something that progresses you 8% faster, that means you are playing less of the game. This game, you spent your own money on. If you play a 60 dollar game for 60 hours, you spent 1 dollar an hour. 120 hours, half a dollar. Why rush it, when you can just enjoy the time you do spend playing? It's a video game first and foremost, it's there to be fun for you. So why care what the pros say when you aren't a pro, why care what others say when they aren't you? "Man will look at themselves as higher than others', but will value others opinions more than their own."
Yo can NEVER play a character wrong. If you want to play Potemking like some short of "hiper rushdown" or something nutty, go ahead if it's fun for you. Sometimes fighting against a character feels the same no matter who you are playing against, and that, personally, is a horrible feeling. I also play characters "wrong" too, like Sin, who's supposed to have a rekka based offensive gained from counters. Yeah ok... what about another 6K and Hoof Stomp in your blocksting lmao. And that is super predictable by my side, but hey, maybe after that 6K i might do an Elk Hunt. When? I don't even know myself. But doing that is funnier than just do the "optimal" thing everyone knows how to deal with, don't you think? Anyways, i beated arround to much, thanks for assistikg to my Ted Talk and remember to keep on rocking!
Epic Mentality. Ive had to pound that in my head to swell. First ever video I uploaded just reacting to an aggressive Cammy and I got called a bot lol. I realised that I was still relatable because there are a lot of people still learning and those higher level players feel some weird superiority for no reason. It's our game and our move. Great stuff.
I'm a king main in Tekken. Genbu rank. I've played with higher rank kings that would try to tell me how to play the character. "Ohh don't do his db3 it's punishable." Yet the guy was getting counter hit by it all the time. "This is his optimal combo" just shit like that. Yet I'd still win. Anyways great video
found this right after getting destroyed by someone on mbaacc and feeling like shit about it. Ngl, helped me a lot, and fuck it, why not, imma write some more cuz this was hella relatable. I play H-Aoko, an already unconventional choice for her because her Oki game is 10x worse than F's and C's combined, but I just find her so, so much fun to play, giving the middle finger to the zoning, camping and usual Aoko bs to just rush down like a maniac and have it sometimes work was the most liberating feeling I've had while playing this game. Yet I've still hit a wall because- well, cuz almost nobody plays her, and the few that do just play her like regular Aoko but with loops and a tad more damage with optimal combos which I don't even use. Been feeling shit playing her tbh, haven't progressed enough to beat a single one of the guys that are decent on the server, and i can only really manage to deal with the absolute newbies which i am tired of constantly beating even if they don't mind. I've though of switching characters millions of times but I have not succeeded because I've yet to find a character that is as fun as H-Aoko is. Y'know, maybe foregoing learning loop combos and optimal shit might be it, I found a tech I haven't seen for resetting pressure with +12 frames which is nice, but I have not given it a sure try since it involves a very complicated input for me (TK 623A). But maybe finding more of this fun but challenging quirks she has help me improve a bit? who knows. I might try as soon as I feel I wanna finally beat ass against someone I couldn't beat before
I've jumped around between FPS, Fighting Games, Extraction shooters, Card and strategy games. I've tried to buck the trend in all of them and have experienced utter failure for it. I can't say it's not been bad for, and at time I don't know if my toil was worth it in the end. But every game I play I always try to get to a point where I can mentor and foster build craft. I hope this helps at all.
As far as I can tell you ARE playing correctly. Conditioning your opponent is a legitimate playstyle. Or does the Guilty Gear community need to be reminded of Kusoru?
I feel the exact same way, l play with Faust because of his silliness, but to be honest, l feel that l am much better with Giovanna, Giovanna have quickly moves, overhead, and leave less chance to be punished with her, she is so easy to learn. But my love for Faust make me go to the park and lose 8, 10, 12 times in a row, and sometimes win one or two rounds. I don't get mad of many times l lose, l get mad of HOW l lose.
This is a really good video, I just don’t believe that the observation you’re presenting is a solvable problem. Very unfortunate. Thank you for still making the observation anyways

Remember when everyone was convinced Nago was the worst character in the game because "every pro said so"?
As a new player, the secret to fun is the
HEAVYNENLLYYYYYYYYY POTEMUUKINNNNNNNNN BUSTAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
MEGAFISTO
How did i not expect this, just like in the game
Ah yes, we need more ppl and vids like this
