- A few years ago Optic NBA retail slapped with a ton of great looking inserts. So what happened? Why did these great and highly collectible insert designs get reduced to highly forgettable throwaway inserts? Let's talk about the downfall of Panini's graphic design team and why Optic NBA retail blasters and megas are simply not as fun as Select NBA.

Optic retail is garbage. I’ve 10plus blasters and nothing. I feel you bro.
Maybe it’s cuz I grew up in the 90’s where multiple companies were competing to put out the best product, but I miss the Metals, Flairs, SkyBox, Finest & Upper Deck. Inserts & subsets were incredible then.
Honestly, it's more worth collecting 90s/pre 2010 basketball cards over the modern day crap. More value in the longterm over the new stuff.

i've opened like 20, gotten 6 auto, several base wembys and a couple silver/purple inserts, a gold scoot express lane /10, and an SGA checkerboard. Its treated me well

That "Splash" design was hilarious.
My blaster blew away a mega. I love Optic, I wish it wasn't so overprinted.
Ripped two optic mega's didn't get squat. Opened two blasters nothing from the first one. The second blaster 3 wemby's and one of the packs was two wemby's back to back. So hit or miss it's wild
Ripped nearly a case of optic blasters. Purple, holo and checkerboard Wemby! Plus a Phazes Curry. I’ve had better luck with Optic than Select.
So to be clear, products suck unless we all pull nothing but 🔥 out of each and every box??
The mega was a fun open, and I like the copper here, but I don't know why they didn't put the Slammy's here ala Downtown in FB. Big whiff by Panini. I do like the Splash. Thanks for the vid.

First wave stock i grabbed 3 hit red glitter ant black rc & checkerboard Jordan hawkins rc sold the glitter, sending checker off to PSA and holding that one for while

2024 Splash Parallel: "Look how they massacred my boy!!"
Part of it is that optic football retail color for the most part is all rated rookie (with the exception of the stars parallel I believe) where as for basketball it’s the entire checklist - rookies and vets making it much more difficult to hit color of a top rookie
Plus no downtowns of course

Definitely an accurate representation of a typical experience with optic. I've opened probably 15 blasters and 10 megas. I've got two base wemby, all the wemby Inserts in purple or silver (except the phazes SSP obviously), gafford checkerboard and two glitters...Lonnie Walker and Sasha Vezenkov rc. Top rookies are tough to hit in base parallel fo sho! Select was real good to me but I bought a shit ton of it.
My blaster battle results (Walmart) Select: 1/49 Andre Jackson Jr green/white/purple and Optic: 26/149 Brandon Miller green 2 off from jersey match + Scottie Pippen Jr base auto (miller and the auto were in the same pack)

Names on the inserts have been on cards basically since the inception of inserts. 🤔
Select has crazy odds for numbered cards due to the 4 tiers of cards all numbered. Thats alot of numbered cards and you are only getting rcs or stars..😊
The glitters are great. I got a blue to 15 glitter of Keyonte Johnson. Sold for $10
So funny how people can have different feelings on design. I love the new Splash and can't stand the Express Lane myself! Keep up the awesome work! :)

I hit a Phazes Luka. A pink Wemby rr out of a mega. Silver scoot and Amen. A few #'d role players that's about it. Gotta know when to stop. Probably better off buying singles
Idk i just opened 6 of these todays..i got a wemby a bufkin auto to 25 a couple of those coppers which i liked the look of.
Select is tired man..way to many versions of that and keep seeing the same cards over and over.

It’s terrible. Collation is awful and the designs are lackluster. Like you said, the Splash looks bad too and it used to be one of the cooler inserts Panini had
I like the my house design this year compared to the past 3 years, 2020-21 was the best design by far! All the other inserts are kinda bleh….. I’ve pulled jack crap orthodontic so far, my wife on the other hand has pulled a purple my house wemby, silver my house wemby, Ant Man green /149 express lane, and a couple other good ones, I’m just gonna let her open everything from now on 🤣😂🤣😂

Both optic football and basketball was terrible for me this year.
Paper donruss had better inserts consistently. Out of optic I would say contenders even over optic. Mosiac always had better inserts then both contenders an donrus optic so... I feel u though thus yrs optic inserts are ass an it is more disappointing when the base design is so fang good this year.

Optic basketball or pretty much anything basketball is a waste of money to rip . Optic football is definitely better and even Topps series 2 to chase wemby and stroud autos and parallels are more worth it . Atleast you get some other hits
