The Police were everything in the early 80s. And Stewart Copeland, the drummer, is amazing.
Stuart Copeland is an A+ drummer. Sting is known for his vocals but is a great bass player also. Check out the tune “Driven to Tears”-Precise drumming at it’s finest.
Anything on Ghost in the Machine.
@@jml-rj5re no truer words spoken, Sir!
Thank you, now I don't have to reply. Although, you did not mention Andy Summers, who is their brilliant guitarist.
@@jml-rj5re gitm was their worst album,i don't know why people rate it so high. The sax ruined most of it.
And Andy Summers! The most under-rated guitar genius in rock n roll.
"King of Pain" was the last single from their last album. When you're ready for more from The Police check out "Message in a Bottle", "Bring on the Night", "Walking on the Moon", "Driven to Tears", "The Bed's Too Big Without You", "Don't Stand So Close to Me", "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da", "Invisible Sun" and many others.
Nice list. Gotta hit "Walking on the Moon," One of the greatest 'vibe' songs of all time
Good list. For drummers, I would also add "Voices in my Head" and "Murder by Numbers."
They were grouped into the punk scene when they started off but they truly weren't punk. Their first 2 albums were heavily reggae influences. From there they truly developed the Police sound driven my their amazing drummer, Stewart Copeland, and talented and technical guitarist, Andy Summers. One of the 80's most influential bands.
In my view, punkers who realized that they were actually good, rather than just two-chord yammering clowns, created New Wave in order to properly express their musical talents.
@@porflepopnecker4376 By the time The Police was founded Andy Summers was already a seasoned musician.
When you talk about the singer and how good he is, and then you talk about how good the bass player is... you're talking about the same guy: Sting.
Anything by The Police or anything by Sting in the solo career he's had for many years since The Police, you can never go wrong!
Five damn albums. That's it. Tiny catalog for such a huge band.
Sting kept writing great songs though, and he surrounds himself with top class musicians still, so it kinda went on.
my favorites are “Synchronicity 1”, “Murder By Numbers “, “So Lonely “, “The Beds Too Big Without You””, “I Can’t Stand Losing You”,”Canary Is n A Coal Mine”,”Man In A Suitcase “ so many more…LOVE The Police(the band😉)
My favorite band after the Beatles. Sting is a great lyricist and musician. Stewart and Andy are extraordinary musicians. Sting from from the lead singer in the biggest rock band in the 80s to an incredible solo career with incredible music. And this music this sound is just three guys.
Sting - vocals/bass
Stewart Copeland- drums
Andy Summers - guitar
100 Million albums sold for a reason.
"Message In A Bottle", "De Do Do Do", "Wrapped Around Your Finger", "Every Breath You Take", "Can't Stand Losing You", "Roxanne".......
Canary in a coal mine! Brilliant!
My favorite band of the 80s. Their 5 albums are all phenomenal.
The Police made me the drummer I am today. After hearing Copeland back in 1980 when I was 9 years old just blew my mind. Never looked back.
Sting writes all the songs, sings the songs, and plays the bass.
stuart copeland is a seriously tight drummer.
It's amazing how beautiful this band plays together knowing that behind the scenes they were, at times, literally at each others throats.
The police are one of the true greats. Great sound, great drummer, great lead guitar, great song writing, vocals and bass from Sting. Amazing.
Looking forward to more Police, Chod , like Synchronicity1 & Message In A Bottle. And there’s Sting’s great solo work too, which I think is even better in some cases, reflecting his evolution into a more sophisticated sound.
This rang in my head for a whole summer.
I saw them that for this concert tour at Shea and played the tape the rest of the summer!
The "off beat" drumming at the beginning of the First Verse is pure artistry!
I was so happy to see this, only a few reactors have done this song. I love this song, and Message In A Bottle, and many more.
Time for more Police, Chod!
“Wrapped Around Your Finger” You’ll be in awe over the drums.
Can’t forget “Murder By Numbers!”
Saw this tour; Day on the Green 1983. David Bowie a week later, same place. If fact, that Police show is right here on YT.
This track is a clinic on arranging It starts with the piano playing the proper chords and could easily have stayed in that groove Then it shfted to the guitar playing around the chords Excellent
Copeland was always known as a genius musician - even when I was listening to them as a kid in the early 80s. This song was a massive hit as well & I’ve heard it a zillion times in the 40 years (yes 40!!!!) since it’s release. I’ve been a singer (mostly jazz) & a dancer - almost all my life. Im not trained in music theory unfortunately but have a good sense music.. and I swear EVERY damn time that drum hits after the pause from the intro I can never ever anticipate it. How does he do that!?! Sting is almost between the first two words when Copland strikes the drum - between the words There’s and a.. it startles me every time. I think it’s meant to.
The Police do a combination of rock, pop, reggae, jazz and soul on any given song and each band member has there fill. They are so unique, check out Bring on the night, Demolition Man and Driven to tears, just to mention a few.....
Stewart’s reliance upon and his hi hat playing is second to none!
This is my favorite song by The Police. True poetry, in my opinion. Give a listen to Sting's song Russians.
Russians still brings me to tears.
Follow uo to Every Breath You Take.
In concert, Stewart Copeland plays xylophone. Then, then he rushes to another part of the stage to play drums! 😖
Piano by Sting. In Police concerts, there is no recording of the piano. Butin the Sing solo concerts, a keyboardist plays the piano mode.
Sting must have felt this song: he + Stewart were constantly arguing throughout the Synchronicity sessions. These led to the breakup. 😖😖😖
Great song! 😃
Suggested next Police video: Synchronicity 2.
🇬🇧🇺🇲
This was a very exciting album when it was released. I was looking forward to every new MTV video from it.
There's a definite jazz influence to their work, along with a punk aesthetic and a kind of unique "world music" sound. One of a kind!
They were totally unique, no one did the music, beat & lyrics like them. They were a totally new sound & style at that time.
Comparing The Police to Rush is a compliment to both.
I wonder if they ever hung out? Sting could discuss literature with Neil, then switch to Ged to talk bass and vocals. Stewart and Neil could probably talk percussion for hours.
Meanwhile, Andy and Alex are downing drinks, talking guitar, and commiserating about what it's like to be the least appreciated member of a band.
Police were too cool for Rush lol.
Murder by #’s
Walking on the Moon
Every little thing she does is magic
Synchronicity 1&2
Message in a bottle
King of Pain
If I ever lose my faith in you
Build a fortress around your heart
Shape of my heart
Wrapped around your finger
this must be the most clever arrangement for a jolly popsong ever
Hell YES YES go deeper into the Police. May you carry forward the inspiration, individualized sound, passion, stamina, finesse and energy of Stuart Copeland!
You gotta react to these Police tunes:
Message In A Bottle
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Wrapped Around Your Finger
Walking On The Moon
Driven To Tears
De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
Can’t Stand Losing You
So Lonely
When The World’s Running You Down, You Make The Best of What’s Still Around
Walking In Your Footsteps
The Bed’s Too Big Without You
Synchronicity I and II
Behind My Camel
Hole In My Life
Truth Hits Everybody
Demolition Man
Bring On The Night
Great reaction. The Police came out during the punk movement, and even dressed the part a bit, but all three were accomplished musicians. They had pop sensibilities, but brought in hints of jazz, reggae, and even progressive rock, but all done in a simple format.
Ah, The Police. They came and rescued us progressive rockers from the Disco days.
Next recommended The Police song:
“Wrapped Around Your Finger”
You’ll be awe-struck by the drummer on this song.
The Police were one of my first music memories! I was in elementary school when this album came out and my brother was a fan. Memories of being 7/8 years old and going into my teenage brothers room to listen to this with him. I was lucky enough to seem them on their only reunion tour in 2007. It was fantastic. It made me a lifelong Sting fan - I've seen him solo in concert 6 times.
The songs Synchronicity 1 & 2 are both incredible songs, especially for the time it was released.
Such a great band. Saw them this tour, in the Carrier Dome. Sting had quite a solo career as well.
This album is so great. The song Synchronicity 2 is my best. They are unique for sure.
I grew up on the Police with my parents. I am a huge fan of theirs. they had a lot of great songs. Not sure what you have already listened to but check out Roxanne, Everything little thing she does is magic, Wrapped around your finger, Don't stand so close to me, spirits in the material world, and Message in a bottle are just a few.
Absolutely my favorite
I saw The Police in concert in 2008. It was their last tour. Great show. Sting was very cool and likable.
What a band, seen them live a couple times in the late seventies, absolutely brilliant.
“Tea in Sahara” is brilliant. That song really moved him back to his family’s roots of jazz and blues
Just beautiful.
Funny story, in my house this was called the nonnie car song. When my son was 2 I played this album constantly. He called police car sirens nonnie cars for some reason, and would always jump up and down yelling "nonnie cars!!!!" the whole time this song played because of the bridge instrumental . Great memory ❤
Great reaction Chod...yup,Stewart Copeland's snare is killer,Sting's voice is great and Andy Summers gets through so much tasteful work on the guitar.I regularly watch their live concert from Atlanta, worth a watch..Walking On The Moon(which i believe you've done ,studio-wise) is phenomenal, Copeland's drumming especially.More Police please sir :)
This song was played so much on the top40 FM stations we started rewording it. The only one that I remember is " there's a little black spot on my lung today " !
As well as Kansas, Ducks in the wind and countless others.
If you liked a new song they would play the crap out of it until you just about couldn't stand it anymore !
The first 2 Police albums were magic. 🌟😁❤️
To me this is their ultimate tune!
This song's chorus is very reminiscent to a rush song called "Middletown Dreams". There's a part in the song right after the first 4 lines of the second verse that sounds very similar to the "King of Pain" chorus. I remember seeing a picture of Geddy Lee back in the 80's with a "Police" pin on his guitar strap. I think Rush at that time was getting into that "80's " sound, and the Police were a big influence.
Stewart Copeland...special drummer.
My favorite band, and this is one of their best.
This brought back for me a memory of 20 years ago..as I lay on the couch in complete ptsd from the event..a live concert event from Sting at his home, they debated whether to do it or not. They did it anyway. That was the first time I heard his song Fragile.
You can always count on Sting to come up with imaginative lyrics.
Wrapped around your finger. Great song from the same album.
Gotta do DRIVEN TO TEARS. You’re a drummer; you’ll love it.
33 likes 😁 synchronicity 👍👍 this whole album is one of my favorites and most listened to in my collection
As others may have said, there’s a journey to be had with The Police.
Sting is a visionary, at least in terms of how he saw his future, and he ruthlessly pursued it. He was able to leverage the strengths of The Police and the individual members (most especially himself) to carve a path to stardom.
Sting is incredibly intelligent, so his lyrics and song construction are underpinned by sophistication even when he’s writing a simple love song. It’s a duality that appeals to the pop mentality as well as those who have an appreciation for deeper meanings. His songs reference classic literature and social conscience and can be raw or polished.
If you listen to songs from the first two or three albums, you’ll find them more youthful and tinged with punk elements so that they appealed to the mindset of the UK of the times, but there was still intelligence in the content, like Joe Jackson was also able to deliver.
The later albums were more polished and even experimental, such as this one. Andy Summers was playing early guitar synths, so you’re hearing piano and keyboard sounds but it was played on guitar so they could also play the songs live. The Edge from U2 seems to borrow from Andy’s approach quite often.
Then, after tensions in the band were too much Sting went solo, starting with a jazz-rock album and progressing on to be largely un-pigeonholable.
Must-listen Police tracks (including some you’ve heard) are:
Roxanne
Message In A Bottle
Walking On The Moon
Invisible Sun
De Doo Doo Doo De Dah Dah Dah
Don’t Stand So Close To Me (Original, not re-release)

Walking on the Moon by The Police. Another Goldie you have to listen to. Won't be disappointed...😉
Copeland is also known for doing tv and film scores. Huge talent.
You might check out some of Sting’s solo work. It shows his evolution in music and even a willingness to incorporate different styles as time has progressed. Check out Russians, Fortress Around Your Heart, Desert Rose, Brand New Day, and Perfect Love (Gone Wrong).
Sting...
Lead vocalist and bassist.
I remember buying this album when it first came out. I agree you need to go deeper into their inventory. And also Sting as a solo artist.
That whole album is great!!!
God what a song. The chorus almost reminds me of praise music
You have to go down the rabbit hole!!!!!
When I saw you were doing this one I knew you would love it. And what is not to love?
Try "So Lonely," "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and my favorite, "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic."
Sting is the base fiddle player and lead vocal.Stewart is the drummer and Andy is on guitar.
I was so into The Police I learned all the bass lines. One of the hardest being Dead End Job
That's my soul up there.
Chod, listen to Wrapped Around my Finger is my favorite Police song
I love sting's voice!!!
My favorite track on this record is Murder by Numbers. But Driven to Tears, as others have suggested is epic and really showcases Stuart Copeland’s percussive talents.
One of my most favorite Police songs! Thanks for reacting❤Please do more😊 definitely got to check out Sting also amazing
The Police have a great mix of rock, reggae and soul. They have a very deep catalogue you have to dive into and their greatest hits album is phenomenal
May your "likes" to "dislikes" always be 500 to 1 or better. Keep up the great work.
Well, they got respect from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
My fav police tune
I love the Synchronicity album! Every song was a bomb dot com, way back in the 1980ies. Surprise: You can still listen to these songs today!
Nice reaction 👍🏻. The Police are one of my all time favorite bands. They were on my heavy rotation list back when I was in High School. If you like small powerful bands I suggest you check out The Warning. They are 3 sisters from Mexico that play hard rock, check out their song Evolve. They also took part in Metallica The Blacklist album doing a cover of Enter Sandman with Alessia Cara.
The police's album, synchronicity, the whole album is pretty good pretty good pretty decent album.
Police are one of my favorite rock groups and Sting is one of my favorite single artist along with Stevie Wonder and Elton John! Stewart Copeland is one of the best drummers by music critics in music history!!!! And I agree with them. You have GOT to do MORE Police!!! That Reggae Punk Rock style is kicking Fire!!!!! and that style can be heard in groups like Maroon 5 and other bands today like Train....so yeah ..man...go down the Rabbit Hole of The Police!!!!
Definitely looking forward to you reacting to more Police. Can't wait til you get to "Murder By Numbers"! If you get more into Sting, check out " Brand New Day".
5:50 took the words outta my mouth
😎👍 how good is this song
I honestly can't think of one song by The Police that sucks!
Stings big hit that was the song of 83 or 1984 was Every Breath you Take...was quite the song.
Tks for another excellent choice from one of my favorite vocalists and band. Dive in - you won't regret it. They are amazing in a similar way as ZZ Top to get the amount of sound they do with three people. 👍 Always enjoy your honest analysis. Another great reaction 💕 check out "Roxanne", "don't stand so close to me" ( if you haven't already) and "message in a bottle" for more of their variety.
The lead singer Gordon Sumner aka Sting is the bassist!!!
The singer and the bass player are the same person.
Respect to The Police.
Check out The Police’s lead guitarist, Andy Summers, with Robert Fripp (King Crimson) on a track called “I Advance Masked.” It will mess with your head in the best way.
This song is fire. the Police where one of the biggest bands in the world at the time. If you haven't done Wrapped Around My Finger or Spirits in the Material world, I would recommend them next
Chod, yes Sting is up there with the big boys. He is the biggest boy! He's Sting!
