Owls capture the human imagination as solitary, lunar creatures with next to little emotion behind their cold gaze. But nothing could be further from the truth. Like a grumpy husband, owls are just choosy about who they’ll show their emotional side to.

“A wise old owl sat on an oak, the more he saw the less he spoke. The less he spoke, the more he heard, why aren’t we like that wise old bird?” A long-time owl lover, I so enjoyed this tribute to Doug!
If no one speaks, then what can one hear?
The deepest part of one’s soul...God’s answers for us. 😇
@@JessieG0226 Don't feel anything sadly.
God gave us two ears and one mouth. Use them in proportion
I remember learning this in rhyme in second grade, that's a wild throwback.
That really touched my heart when the owl hugged the rescuer and rested her head against him.
Love this story.
Beautiful owl Gigi and her human friend Doug. Brought tears to my eyes too. Wish there were more humans like Doug and more owls too. Have the great privilege in life to own a small forest and saw a baby owl once on the ground under a tree. I knew & felt Mom was nearby so I just walked on....❤️🇨🇦
What a beautiful story! Owls appear cold but they are actually very loving and caring creatures as well as exemplary parents!
Gigi is such a wonderful owl and she loves her rescuer Doug so much. The scenes of
them hugging are touching.
What a beautiful bird, so sweet to see her hug her the man who saved her. Thank you all for helping her.
Great horns will eat your cat faster than your cat will eat a mouse. They are big scary raptors. Very impressive creatures. Even more impressive is seeing one.
My wife and I raised a screech owl that fell out of a tree because I'm a logger and I took it home as a baby it was an amazing journey to raise the owl taught it how to hunt and kill buying Mice from the pet store it came back for five years after we release it every spring and every fall you would come to our property in the daylight hours and talk to my wife they had a special bond it wasn't me his name was Clicker I'm glad he made it for at least five years after we released aloha Uncle J

I'm a wildlife photographer, and just stumbled across this video. I know it's almost a year ago, but I just want to say thank you to all of you that helped rehabilitate Gigi.
This man is blessed with a natural affinity for birds. Not easy for an owl to trust a human cause they are wild. Beautiful!

When we lived in the mountains, there was an owl that lived in a tree across from our home. He would watch us walking down the road until we were in the house. Beautiful creature.
I made friends with a great horned owl that lives in a nest around here. I’ve been feeding him for about 5 or 6 months. I’ve usually got food left over and if it’s meat then I normally see him right around sunset. If I don’t notice him he’ll get my attention by tapping on the door when his beak. I usually give him whatever I’ve got on hand though he prefers roast beef ( ironically my cat does too). I use a long fork so I’m about a foot or so away and I just give him however much he wants. He brings his girlfriend along too. I see them probably 2 or 3 days in odd sequence in the off season but when she’s got eggs I see them way more often and when it’s cold out. They keep the rodents away so I’m more then happy to help convince them to say
Poor baby...GiGi is absolutely adorable! Owls have the cutest faces. I'm happy that her rescuers were able to save her.
This is absolute one of the most beautiful animal rescues I've ever seen!!
This man is blessed!! What a kind soul!!! ❤
As soon as i heard the voice, i realized im never going to see actual footage of the story. Just random videos while he narrates. I wish channels like these would go away

@@menopassini9348 Actually in this particular video the "case" was presented in the first 2 min, the rest was the usual verbal diarrhea. The very last time i am watching this crap channel.

Well God Bless Gigi. And the man who helped her. What a special bond. Awesome.

I have always loved owls. It is absolutely incredible how this Great Horned Owl loved the man that rescued and rehabilitated this big beautiful boy. It is so amazing how he cuddled into his shoulder. They share deep respect for each other.
Animals don't love easily but when they do, their love is unconditional.
The Good Samaritan and the Wise Owl, a lovely picture.
Your comment sounds as if an individual could write a series of childrens books under the title of: "The Good Samaritan and the Wise Owl", dontcha think? And your comment is lovely as well.

Couldn`t put it better myself.
Aren’t they just beautiful, and was lucky to have found this guy, to see the bond is so awesome, well done to him and Gigi.
Having exotic parrots myself, I understand the bond between Gigi & her rescuer. Large birds, although this one was wild, are some of the smartest creatures on earth. God bless you both, as well as the veteranarians.
Owls are indeed super-intelligent, but corvids (birds in the crow family, including blue jays and ravens) are freaky smart.
Awwww broke my heart ❤️ this man Doug is truly a great man, animals don’t lie!
I heard that they DO lie, and more often than not!
Two Angels met each other, one is full of heartfelt gratitude which is extremely rare.
I rescued an orphaned Barn Owl when I was in college. I eventually released him to the wild, but he was beyond amazing. He would sit on my shoulder and preen my hair. My father and I would fly him late at night. We had about an acre of land and my dad would be on one side, I on the other and my owl would fly between us.
Nice David. Was that Barn owl already an adult?
Super cool

There is another channel that covered this same story, with a similar title.

My love for Owls has to do with finding them to be my spirit animal, one to appreciate them highly.
Owls seem intelligent and affectionate.
The old tale of a wise old owl is wrong. It is assumed they are wise because they spend a lot of time observing and live relatively long. However they are among the most stupid of medium/large sized birds. (Ask exasperated falconers). The huge eyes and ears inside the tiny skull don't leave much room for brain.
The Covid family of rooks, crows and ravens are very clever, with parrots a way back, but next in line. :-) I am not aware of serious scientific studies on the intelligence of Hawks and Falcons, but I would bet on Harris Hawks coming out very well, but still below the Covids. :-)
@@markhorton8578 They are clever hunters and very cute silly little things with an arresting gaze like Gigi.
@@bonanzaboomer Very effective hunters and very cute for sure. I like them and have even "flown" an eagle owl. Not heavy but they can hit you with quite a force. Nearly nose to beak is a good feeling. Not sure about clever, they don't really use any tactics other than swoop silently on prey.
I was also shocked at seeing genuine kindness and remembrance in an octopus story too. It really loved the man that saved him. I 'll never forget that octopus or this owl!
Thank God that he survived and that he is doing awesome now thank you sooo much for rescue him and give him a better life with love and happiness 💜💛💛💓💓😍😍😙😚😚😚

When I was a kid, around 7 I believe, I lived on a big farm in Oberlin, Ohio. I had a goat named Mandy and after school, her and I would pal around together and play. I loved her dearly. One day, we were out just walking around and right by the creek that ran by our house, I spotted this big beautiful Great Horned Owl. I knew something must have been wrong with him, so very quietly and slowly I walked to where he was and sat down next to him. He let me pet him and talk to him and he was just calm as could be, closing his eyes when I pet him. Never tried to bite, not once. It was an absolutely amazing and beautiful experience and I think about it quite often. I've always had a deep connection with animals and I wouldn't trade it for the world

I appreciate this video. A few years back, I had a barred owl show up at my house and for some reason it took to me and followed me wherever I went while outside. I agree that they are very intelligent and will totally accept and trust you if they choose. I named it Hoot. Hoot followed me around like a dog would.
Whenever I sat down, it would fly right up and squat right next to me until I got up and left. He would always immediately make direct eye contact with mine and it would mesmerize me.
It seems that I couldent break eye contact until he was ready. Intelligent and amazing birds.
What a great experience. It is always wonderful when animals accept us and let us into their world.
Wow that's AMAZING 🦉💛
John..THATs a story worth repeating. Thanks! Cool name, too...Hoot...
I rescued a tiny little bird before. A few weeks later, I was sitting outside and the same tiny little bird landed only a few feet away from me. It looked at me for a bit and then flew away. I always think about it when a hurricane comes through. Hope it's still alive and doing well.

Owls definitely are most intelligent. This must be why they have be traditionally associated with wisdom.
Sorry pentirah but you have been mislead by a spurious video. Aviculturists and ornithologists will tell you that owls are amongst the least 'intelligent' of birds.
They've been associated with wisdom due to their big open eyes and visual fixation that makes them look like they're paying a lot of attention 😅
What do you call a group of owls?A parliment.Have you ever met a wise politician?
An Owl can count to around three, a raven can count to around 8/9 and are the smartest birds, an african grey can learn a lot, but so can the raven. Plus a raven can remember what you did to it years ago and can hold a grudge if you treated it badly.
@@sandersakkee9284 In regards to the raven, the same can said about the Australian magpie.

BEAUTIFUL STORY....BEAUTIFUL OWL!
I had a great horned owl land on my property. It stayed put. I watched him for days! He did not move, I called the wildlife people, “their nor endangered, leave it alone and a hawk will get”. I was truly appalled. So two of us, I got the gloves and a huge basket while my brother danced around, waving and yelling to hold his attention. I snuck up from behind and got him. There was a wildlife sanctuary 20 minutes away. I loaded him in to my car and drove him there, they were waiting for me. After his initial exam he was almost starved to death and had one of his eyes shot. I went back a few days later, he was still recovering. Unfortunately he could not be rereleased into the wild with vision in only one eye. They found a neighboring sanctuary that would take him, and use him in classrooms for teaching. He’ll live the rest of his life being well taken care of. He was absolutely beautiful! I volunteered at the sanctuary after that - awesome experience to say the least.
I love sitting out on our deck during summer nights and you can hear the great horned owls talking to each other
I’ve been a hunter all my life whether you agree or not. I’ve never hunted owl or nor have I ever heard of anyone hunting owls.
Because it’s illegal?
Hunted was the wrong term imo. Killed yes, but not hunted. There's a big difference.
@Sunrise Sunshine Woah there, if that were the case might as well lock our ancestors up for killing animals. I bear no grudge toward people who hunt, but I still distaste people who enjoy the pain and drag it on.
@Sunrise Sunshine You are a narrow-minded child
Maybe owls don't often get hunted because they're nocturnal.
Oh that’s so sweet. She doesn’t want him to leave her.
Really? How could you tell? Certainly not by the video footage. Epic fail
What a precious gift Douglas has in connecting with birds!!💖👍🤗
Oh wow thanks be to God...that we have such beautiful people in this world that help our animals , birdlife insects and snakes to help them survive when they crash into our world....as these kind and loving people have done.
Please everyone, slow down for birds. People assume they can fly off & don’t slow & hit them 😞 truth is they can sometimes be heavy/full after a roadkill meal- so they can only walk/hop- they can’t take off right after stuffing themselves. Please spread the word🙏 i watch a lot of Southwest Wildlife Foundation rescue vids, they do great work but i wish they didn’t have to. They don’t all make it. 😔🦅🦉🧡
If I saw Doug, I’d give him a hug too. He just looks so huggable.
It restores my faith in our stewardship of God's creatures when i see these stories. Truly, humans can do little better than to show compassion for one another as well as non human co inhabitants of the planet. 🕊
Animals are amazing. They show love and gratitude. Humans not always. Thanks to those few that have a passion on helping wild animals as well as domestic ones. You have my respect. 💐🤝

Honestly, there’s something different about owls than other birds
yeh, they're nocturnal :P
"Great Horned Owls are the only animals that eat skunks on a regular basis. This makes them a great addition to any suburban area.'
Unless you're a skunk.
Not really. Sounds dumb. Drivers and their cars are deadly weapons. I guess you haven't rescued any badly injured raptors or aves. Earthlings not really known for their higher intelligence.
I love this story. I enjoyed the information given on owls. Love and compassion goes so far. Thank you.
There really IS humans that care and animals that KNOW it🙁👍.thankfully it's real
I associate that voice with every low quality content on this platform
I cried like a baby watching this.
The power of love.
Loved this story. I have always held an interest for owls, they are a lovely bird. I would much like to be owned by an owl, any species. Only one time in my life did I ever see an owl in the wild. Rocca Razo, Italy, a ski resort, went there in the early winter by car nd lo & behold standing on a bank near the road was an owl , white w/ some black feathers, breathtaking it was,. This owl was gigantic (for an owl) nearly 2 feet tall. Didn't know any owl could achieve such a height as that. Majestic as ever, he was watching the cars go by, and the cars were slowing down to look at him. NEVER will I forget that sight. Owl hold such intrigue, they are mysterious, highly intelligent birds. THAT was a lucky unforgetable experience. .
Majestic indeed! There is a commercial on television for a university featuring an owl in flight. It is awe inspiring. I don't see how anyone does not like this video.
Owls are so gentle and patience birds..Two owls always comes to our home every year and stays for some days. They never complain anything about annoyance
What an amazing story!! God bless all who helped Doug bring Gigi back to good health.
Lures you in with the impression that you are going to see this incredibly emotional moment between owl and man. Just talk and a few still images.
This is such a beautiful video of various kinds of gorgeous owls. I have forever loved all owls. They are so intelligent and so succeslfully hunt snakes, mice.
It was so sweet and loving of this beautiful owl to show her rescuer how grateful she was for him saving her...
Owls are one of the smartest and oldest souls on earth. Humans are so vain that we don’t take the time to realize the depth of Gods miracles that surround us.
We had a pair of owls living in the rafters of our hay barn. The best mice catcher EVER. They were very well fed and well protected in our barn. Dad always told us never to use any kind of poison for the mice or any thing that the owls fed on. My sisters even put water out for them, but I never saw them drink from it. Do they drink? Or get their water from the prey they consume? They lived for many, many years.
So beautiful! I love birds and all animals, I had an amazing bond with a bird I rescued too, and a cat.
Who else knew: no tears would fall after hearing this dudes voice?
YOU ARE A WONDERFUL MAN, DOUGLAS. THAT OWL GIGI LOVES YOU SINCE YOU SAVED HER LIFE. IT WAS SOOOOOO PRECIOUS TO SEE HER PUT HER HEAD ON YOU. I SHED SOME TEARS. 🙏
yelling is not ok, Karen
The beautiful bonds we form through human and animal existance can be and should always be heartwarming.
Animals are amazing! Not cold, just wary of HUMANS!!!
Simply a lesson for us all. Beautiful.
I rescued a large grey owl he was standing on the side of the road his beak was broken and was having trouble standing so I opened the trunk and used the cargo net to wrap him up and lifted him into the trunk he seemed to know I wasn't a threat drove him about three miles to the vet he was also wildlife vet he could not believe that I done that he said he would repair the beak he said the talons would of easily sliced my arms open.
I rescue owls & all raptors. Most likely you might have had the talons puncture you - still painful - but I’ve never heard of anyone being sliced open. They grasp with their talons. They don’t use them like knives.
For some reason, they show other species of owls. For example, they show a man snuggling with a barred owl, and with a spotted owl. They show a fledgling Great Horned Owl and a regular Great Horned Owl.
Also, there's no need to train an owl you're going to release unless that training is getting them in shape to fly with the stamina needed to hunt, and the moves needed to home in on prey and accurately hunt.
It sounds like this owl was not being trained for living in the wild, because the ones being trained to live in the wild are weaned away from their acceptance of humans, so that in the wild, they won't approach humans as wild owls.
Probably the head wound keeps this owl from being able to return tobthe wild.
So, many of the photos are of other great horned owls, like the one fighting the eagle. There's even a picture of a barn owl. And owls with leg Jesse's for training.
But that doesn't negate this beautiful story! The more people recognize that owls are emotional, passionate, tender hearted beings, the more people will want to protect them.
Really, they're helpless against the cruel actions of humanity.
Thank GOD for people who are out there to save these emotional, tender hearted animals!
So nice to have people with a heart and care for lesser ones in the cold and cruel would there are people who hit a animal and just keep going well you reap what you sow I think he is a good person and thank you and bless you
My dad rescued a baby Screech Owl when I was a kid. The dead tree his family lived in was cut down. We named him Ollie and had him for several years. He pretty was fun.
Years ago my husband bought a station wagon from a garage of hells angels in Tuolumne.City, Calif. It had no back window and cats would sleep in it at night. I would go to Sonora down the grade from Sugar Pine and when it started to snow I had an hour to get home before the snow would stick. One night as I was coming home up the road suddenly the headlights quit. I was petrified because it was pitched dark and the road was winding. Then the lights came back on and a great horned owl flew so close across my windshield I could have hit him. It was so incredible I will never forget this experience. I love owls now!
Thank God she was rescued and rehabilitated and stays away from Danger and never has to be rescued again she is so beautiful and he is absolutely unnecessary addition to the bird world Thank you Doug I love you GG

It's a beautiful story of friendship between man and a bird
I, too, rescued an owl. I found her on our back porch. Some how, one of my cats had brought her down. I won't describe all of the adventure but when I took her outside, at twilight, she stood on my fingers, turned her head back and looked at me with those great golden eyes for half a minute (I am guessing) and then silent flew away, well, it was a great gift. I am so proud I was able to help one of these amazing creatures.
An interesting insight on a beautiful bird of prey.
You can’t help but feel good after watching this and I like that.
Well, I also have a story to tell, it's a long one but I will make it as short as possible...my wife and I used to go to Brazil every Jan/Feb for 2-4 months, any way fast forward. I went for walks on a daily basis along the beach where we would stay, and cut through a small park where not many people would go. There was a guard stationed there and we would talk and he told me about a family about 4 burrowing owls that lived there. Well, being a bird lover also, I walked towards her burrow one day. Mom sat on a branch as she observed me getting closer to her home. She did nothing, but her 2 fledglings made quite a ruckus, along with pops. Fast forward, the guard said she will not let you get close to her. Every day I walked through the park, moving closer and closer to her, where she was perched on the same branch. Fast forward 3 weeks now since I "met" the owls. I always moved slowly towards her, with a calm and reassuring voice, while her fledglings flew around in the background, showing their disdain, but mom never "said" anything. Then one day, I slowly reached up to where she was perched, and TOUCHED her chest. I couldn't believe it, I did what was said to be IMPOSSIBLE. The guard at the shack couldn't believe it! As days went by, in 2 months time I was caressing her breast feathers, and even scratched her ear. She FULLY trusted me, I was know in the Village where we stayed as "the owl man", and when I walked the same path, sometimes I would hear some people say, here comes the owl man. People were floored, no one had ever done this before, now here comes a Gringo from Canada and he can do such a thing....A year later, we went back, the first thing I had to do was to see"my" owl. The guard said she probably won't recognize you. I slowly walked up to her perched, very slowly reached out my hand AND touched her breast feathers, without any resistance. Needless to say the guard couldn't believe it, you have the touch was all he could say...🦉
Amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome story.
Had a huge male horned owl tap me on my helmet while i was riding my mountain bike one night. I landed on a branch about 10 feet away and then sized me up. It was awesome. Beautiful bird.
That's a beautiful story. I love owls. They are beautiful birds.
