This actually works very well. I remember a few years ago reading about a woman who was at home at the time that a man broke into her house to rape her. She submitted to the rape, but once the man dropped his pants to reveal his genitals the woman grabbed his testicles, pulled, twisted, and squeezed. She led him out of her house. the man was hitting her and doing is best to get her hand off of his testicles but she kept on holding on too them until she finally got him out of her front door and then pushed him into the snow off of her porch. It was February at the time and there was a lot of snow on the ground. She called the police and the police followed his foot prints to his house. He lived only about a half a block a way. When the police got to his house they looked inside the front window and saw the perpetrator on the floor of his living room, naked from the waste down, holding onto his family that was between his legs. The police walked into his house and arrested him.
This actually help me a lot, today I got into a fight with a guy from my gym class and he was trying to fight me because I accidentally bumped into him. He tried coming toward me so I knocked him in the jaw like in your demonstration and he ran away and backed off and told the teacher. Although I got suspended I’m glad I taught that punk a lesson in not messing with people no matter what they look like.
@ Well said, bro. If you can't escape violence, especially in school cases, you got to fight back. I was a small guy and a new immigrant back in high school, some assholes demanded money from me, and I grabbed a chair and was able to walk away. I was caught another day and fought back, I got some punches and I didn't score any, but I always aimed for eyes, groin, or alike. They knew I'm not a person for fight, but if I score, I might kill them or disable them permanently. Then they don't bother me anymore. I ain't stupid beasts who loves to exchange punches or kicks, no fight or fight for life.
@@Chraan boxing is very scientific. Designed to get the very best out of a person in the sense of power... Your power becomes so great because of your technique and your conditioning combined... But the fist isnt naturally adapted to this, we aren't supposed to be able to hit this hard..
Don't do fancy kicks or moves that you see in movies in a street fight just trow one hard punch to knock your oppenement out or run away when they are not alone.
Not true, Bruce said use what works for you, disregard the rest, well if like Bruce you had training or like me by the 2 best Tae Kwon Do Masters on Earth ever, namely Jhoon Goo Rhee and Suu Kyi Yeoung then yes, at green light or long distance fighting the kick is perfect for interception and if trained in TKD above all else, some forms of Kung Fu and some forms of high proficient Kick Boxing, then there is no way 1 or 2 or 3 fighters can touch you or get close enough to land a punch or a shove or any close quarters fighting.
If taught for real life and self improvement and not tournament safe fighting or glorified sparring with a partner under the safety of rules and regulations, then fly or high kicking unless highly proficient is useless., the side kick is highly potent, the kick to the groin highly potent and if fast and powerful then a front round house and the standard reverse round house kick, are what is best.
@Alacycle I would say grabbing is less likely, but possible. More likely is just pushing the leg upward, very high, causing them to lose footing and crash down backward onto their neck, with your body weight coming down on top of them.
@Alacycle No problem, my mistake was thinking your original post was for me ...it wasn't. Now, for my opinion , blocking kicks is a huge mistake, or going for a grab, I see it a lot in mma as well. The best move for any kick waist level or higher is to close in, the sweep is one way, capture can sometimes work, but always close in hard, it will save you in the end, because if it becomes habit they will never land one with enough power to do anything.. The most devastating move we used bouncing, was called "Tree Topping"...It is closing in getting under the leg and lifting it sending them crashing back on their neck, followed by my body weight on top, usually KO'd them. ALWAYS keep them kicks at the knee or lower, or devastation is very possible, concerning street fighting anyway.
My wife said, "why the hell are you wearing boxing gloves" I said, "in case I get into a fight, I don't want to break my knuckles" she said, " we're in the swimming baths". I said, "can't be too careful, never know when it's going to kick off" 🕺
If you are worried about hurting your hands in a fight, don't fight. Biggest mistake is going into a fight and thinking you won't get hurt or worrying about getting hurt. I would argue that you can still injure your wrist with a palm strike. The most meaningful difference would be the reach between a palm strike and a punch. Test it out yourself, a punch has at least a 3" advantage in range, which is huge in any kind of fight.
Jin Ooi if you’re really worried about hurting your hands, use your elbows. They too are some of the hardest points on your body and can cause some serious damage to someone. Either by cutting them or just delivering a brute amount of force
@@benclay4623 Did you miss the point about the importance of losing a few inches using palm vs fist? How much more range is lost by relying on elbows? Your argument would be better utilized on some other thread.
You get teeth in your palm if tbis guy ever fought naybe hed know that lol ive done itmany times even by accidebt in street fights ofcourse i got cauliflower ears and a crooked nose u can tell hes fougbt alot lmao
He's 100% right; it was 20 minutes after a fight that I realized my hand was broke, when the pain kicked in &, I Iooked at my hand, it resembled a damned catchers mit.
There are pros and cons to both. The palm has high layers of fat, so this will be less damaging upon impact (due to the fat acting as a cushion). Open fingers leaves them all prone to breaking - if you miss with palm. And there is about 4 inches less reach with a palm strike. You can get more power in a 'jab' or straight lead by using opponent's momentum. You make them run into your lead and this is like running into a wall. It also feels entirely natural to use the fist as a striking weapon.
Xenon Best way to do it is to extend your arms, clentch your fists and start spinning as fast as you can. That way you protect your back, your sides and your front.
He is very correct. Everybody in street fights, punch in the face and almost every one can take a punch to the face, many times several. It's very ineffective and will cause more damage to you than your opponent. Throat, groin, knees are great target. The first two more so without much practice. Remember the karate kid movie, " if an enemy can't see, he can't fight. ( palm strike to nose ) , if an enemy can't breathe he can't fight ( throat strike ) . If an enemy can't stand, he can't fight ( knee or groin strike ). Then walk/run away. Who freaking cares what other people think how you handled it. Don't let " be a man " influence your judgement. Fights can escalate very quickly when the aggressor is losing. Don't be around for it. I have 11 years in marital arts ( Shorin-Ryu Shotokan and American Kickboxing ) I've never let any arguement escalate to violence. Name calling and posturing/intimidation don't work on me..i simply don't care what they think or say. They all walk away angry.
I have not been formally trained, But i have formally trained mentally, and i agree with you. A fight is not necessary unless out of defense. I do not care what anyone thinks of me whether I look weak or not. No one can say something to me to provoke me because at the end of the day if you insult me and are wrong, i pity you. If you insult me and are right, i thank you. Also, all of my friends have always been very trained in various martial arts and from this I have no doubt in my physical capabilities, and any confrontation I've ever been which have been many, I've never backed down, they have always backed down. i have never had to injure another human. A fight needs two people to engage and VERY rarely will a fight take place if one of the two people understands the metrics behind human nature
I'm just thinking that's the reference here. Because he isn't training with punches but palm strikes, and maintaining in being versatile. But just saying if you palm strike somebody with an upward strike to the nose. You can possibly kill that person (the way the person can die is because if hit at the nose of that force, it can rush blood to the head and basically choke the person with their own blood.) Very scary stuff.
I'm a muay thai and boxing fighter, and I can say that is pretty easy to knock out somebody in the street with this techniche, if you train boxing; this open-handed techniche it's gonna be a lot better. Don't even try this without training!

I saw this guy's page on Facebook, he is very rich, an entrepreneur, the asian dragon, a very successful business man, he is kind and helpful to others.
I was taught this a long time ago, and it works. I always wondered, however, if the same thing applies to kicking with the heel vs kicking with the balls of the feet. The heel has a lot of impact, but because it's hard you can also break a bone, whereas the balls of the feet is softer and much safer.
It doesn't make much sense I guess if wearing shoes, so I was meaning the case when kicking barefoot. Wearing heavy trekking boots is insane for kicking. Also, I don't think the impact on the leg is that much different when kicking with the heel or the balls of the feet, although it could be an issue on the long run.
if you kick with the front of your foot instead of the ball of the heel, you run the risk of hyper extending , having your foot push up towards your shine bone too hard. I've done it and it hurts so bad you instantly want you hop and stand on one foot, which leaves you vulnerable to a take down or being sweeped. I missed kicking a board in half and kicked it with the toe area and it hyper extended my foot. Use your heal. trust me
I have almost injured my front ankle and calf with kicks from the ball of the foot. mind you I had training and conditioning. not saying it isn't effective or can't work, but just be cautious of how and where you kick.
I would only add that the types of shoes would be considered as well as whether or not you wear them... "In the field" it's all about practical... practical... and practical. That's because this is no longer a sport. In sport, you're not actually looking to commit harm to someone. You risk it, but that's not the actual goal. When it's no longer a sport, you look to put the other person face down on the ground... period. Keep your efforts, ideals, and moves SIMPLE. Getting complicated isn't even possible in a "real" fight. I use quotes because some people like to think it's real when they "ass around" instead... SO define "real" at YOUR peril. It's why I don't practice for sport. On kicks, if you're going to do it at all. I would advise generally use the heel. HOWEVER, the exception is when the top of the foot is called for... as in close quarters shots to the groin, armpit, and upward force is demanded. IF you practice and condition your shins properly, they too can be employed... SPARINGLY... Finally, it's rarely a good idea to put yourself in a precarious position "in the field". Remember, opponents can have friends, and the last place you need to be is on your back. Picking your feet up high off the ground is a precarious position by nature, so caution, regardless of skill level, is best. ;o)
I am freshly a new pro boxer but every time I get in a street fights and it involves punches I injure my hands. I learned ways around this and stop creating fights. Thank you for this video.
Holy hell. Taking advise from someone who obviously never have been in a street fight will get you beat up. The angle of an effective palm strike has to be perfect. Best of luck with that. Fists, elbows, knees and feet. I love fight martial arts guys. They rarely get anything in and panic once their bell gets rung.
If the palm strike fails as the opponent is a hobby boxer and has his hands up to cover his head , idk , a fist seems to be faster and easier to bring through the defense
Rafael Roquemore you dont work out im guessing. More you work out more pressure your wrists will get. They arent muscles on their own at all. Muscles support them but wrists will break quite easily.
I feel my wrists safer in palmstrike than regular strike, since I'm used to support my bodyweight on my bent wrist, but flexing it the other way I don't get far. If I bet, I'd say that I could still hit with the upper part of the palm without damaging my wrist. However, if I hit with my fingers, i'll either break my wrist or fingers. If you want to reduce the risk, you can roll your fingers in, in something called a leopard-fist (it's like unrolling your regular fist one step to reveal your palm). That greatly reduces the risk of getting entangled and it also reduces the maximum leverage on your wrist.
If you dont think you can mess people up with palm strikes watch early pancrace in Japan. Bas would mess people up. And contrast that with early UFC tournaments where fighters would scratch left and right between rounds because of broken hands. The reason they had to set up a super-fight to have the rematch between Gracie and Shamrock was because after UFC 1 Shamrock kept breaking his hand in the the tournaments. That said you can punch bare-knuckle without breaking your fist but it is a skill and it is still more risky than palm strikes.
I thought all your power and strike force comes from the movement of your body and not your hands or fists? Your fists are just an extension of that force being deliver.
yeah, hands are just the tool for delivering the power, but always add that a good conditioned hand is also a powerful weapon itself. So the power of the technique mixed with a strong delivering tool make for the ultimate weapon.
The exception to this rule: Learn HOW to throw a punch the right way WITHOUT breaking your fist. Throw it vertically with the knuckles of the middle and ring fingers making contact with the chin or side of the jaw. And you HAVE to have the right body mechanics for when you’re throwing a punch so that you do maximum damage without using muscular force.
I've been in a lot of street fights and every time I've punched and I always will I have messed up my hands before but I'd rather mess up my hands then get knocked out or potentially be dead 💀
this is why gloves are used in boxing. hands should be protected. if you're in a street fight , you got your elbows, knees, head. do hammer first instead.
also elbows are good the bone in your elbows is very thick in a street fight its better to kick ,kick someone in the ball bag then as they hunch over then punch them
My karate teacher (Okinawan karate), taught me the elbow and knee are 2 most powerful striking forces. I practice elbows a lot. I once squared off w two traditional boxers. I waited for them to get closer and I stepped in brought my left knee up into the gut of guy on the left and after I placed my foot down I brought my right knee up into the guy on my rights gut, both on the ground in seconds holding their stomachs. Probably hit them about in their solar plexus. Boxers never expect moves like that. Neither even threw a punch!
Brian...if they were boxers..Because you announced yr intentions by squaring off.. the mili-second you were in range of an 80 in reach..you could have got yr ass knocked out before you even threw your short knees..which by the way is the wrong knee for each guy if you squared up & facing them..& the the guy on the right was doing nothing while you kneed his partner..Oh OK ..got it!! Knees are normally used in clinches & inclose fighting..I suggest that if they were strictly boxers & not mixed..Start by throwing yr kicks to the thighs, mid section & head..you would have a greater extention.. ( But I,m glad it worked out for you) AH...hmm...sry just clearing my throat!!!
I trained with Joe Lewis also. Im sad he's gone. He was so in depth. He broke a right hook down into like 10 steps. I still have a pic with me and him together . History gone
There is something Doctor's call "boxer's fist", Even if you manage not to break your knuckeles, if the skin is split you can be in a LOT of trouble. All those germs get driven way into your now exposed tissue and your skin retracts back over, making it very hard to thoroughly debride the bacteria out of there. Infections are very common and can result in long courses of antibiotic treatments, and that may not save you from eventual amputation-- or worse if you get something like flesh-eating streptococcus.
For the audience playing along at home, this person is talking about two different things. "Boxer's injury" is when you push in your knuckle, like I once did on my right hand; the bacterial thing is called "fight bite", a definite risk in bare-knuckles boxing.
True in a lot of respects. Also good in theory but don’t forget to mention though that you’re sacrificing a few inches of reach by going from punch to palm. The The jab is also a tool for keeping the distance and measuring distance. I don’t care how good you think you are at closing the gap if your opponent knows how to work that jab you’re not gonna close the distance properly like while practicing a predetermined route. Very different in real life. Plus your guy was not jabbing properly he was deliberately spoofing it for your demonstration. Peace.
The question is what has the higher probability of happening. Breaking the knuckles when punching someones head or breaking the fingers when trying to slap.. a open hand in a combat situation is a weakness to be exploited by the enemy. They can grab your fingers much more easily and in a fight theres a lot of movement so you better get that open hand hit on spot or your fingers might do the hitting and that hurts alot. I recommend training your knuckles to withstand someones head. At least from breakage. Start by doing puchups on the knuckles on a hard surface. Or breaking thicker boards to accomplish this.
equitaz purely out of curiosity... what is your fighting background and have you ever been in street fights? Slaps have worked for me. I can pull my fingers back way faster than they can grab. And being slapped is shocking and demoralizing lol.
Slapping someone is gonna get you hurt... I grew up fighting in the streets. Straight direct punches to the Jaw and Nose are most effective along with head and body movement
People have to know body anatomy. Some people have harder faces. You can slap the shit outta a pretty boy or someone that isn't solid or hard looking. But someone with a big ass pitbull neck, rusty hulk hands, and a hard ugly lookin face... You can even be a boxer and your knuckles will be 2wice the size they were for life and you'll be on you tube bleedin. Keep 2 3inch long metal pipes 1 1/2 inch thick. And hammer fist the fuck outta them to where the metal sticks out past your palm and connects to their face. And yes I will keep 2 small compact pipes in my pocket or even in my hands at times in certain areas. People be trippin now days and everyone so quick to fight for social media cred.
That's right lol, the guy comes up behind Bruce and he grabs his knackers without even looking and kinda pulls him off his feet by the sack and onto the ground...underrated move lol, well remembered!

@ Well said, bro. If you can't escape violence, especially in school cases, you got to fight back. I was caught another day and fought back, I got some punches and I didn't score any, but I always aimed for eyes, groin, or alike.
No kicks above the knee, but a no kick approach to street fights is foolishness.

As a former doorman in th UK..I can tell you the palm is a beautiful tool. Awesome stuff. Thank you Dan Lok.
What about hammer fist(striking with bottom of fist)can be used straight from shoulder or from an angle without compromising distance
Xenon Best way to do it is to extend your arms, clentch your fists and start spinning as fast as you can. That way you protect your back, your sides and your front.
But u can't grab balls with fist

I was taught this a long time ago, and it works.
I always wondered, however, if the same thing applies to kicking with the heel vs kicking with the balls of the feet. The heel has a lot of impact, but because it's hard you can also break a bone, whereas the balls of the feet is softer and much safer.
Correct but we also have to consider other factors. Shoes or no shoes? Types of floor? And weather condition.
Makes sense that Bruce doesn’t punch as much as he goes for the throat and eyes.
Keep practicing.
puttputt524 yeah cuz Bruce Lee specializes in street fights, not regulated "safe" fights with no fear of death

Bruce Lee used punches like the straight lead. Its a vertical three knuckle punch
You better have a strong wrist
JOJOM1209 easy to condition. especially for anyone who is already actively training.
they are stronger than your knuckles
Yeah, palm strike hard as you can and catch an arm, face, whatever, with your fingers/upper hand.... you're done. Broken or dislocated wrist.
Thanks for the palm strike technique.
the variables part of the vid definitely sold this technique for me. great video👍
The fist does protect your fingers and lightens the impact on the wrist.
you have to keep your extension tools conditioned well enough that they don't break because it couldn't handle your full arm strength
I dont even care if i hurt my knuckles i wont stop punching, if I do that palm striking my wrists will hurt

I like the idea of Palm strikes, but bear in mind... It's easy to dislocate your own fingers with a palm strike against a moving target.
"with a fist you can't do all those"
Yes you can.. Open up your fist
Kind of agree but less movement needed the better. If your hand is already open you don’t have to open it.
Every step you add in the process, slows the process. Empty hand, no fist, much faster.

The exception to this rule: Learn HOW to throw a punch the right way WITHOUT breaking your fist. Throw it vertically with the knuckles of the middle and ring fingers making contact with the chin or side of the jaw. And you HAVE to have the right body mechanics for when you’re throwing a punch so that you do maximum damage without using muscular force.

also elbows are good the bone in your elbows is very thick in a street fight its better to kick ,kick someone in the ball bag then as they hunch over then punch them
Jay Oh, Practice hard, practice well.
@@fun_ghoul thank you, actually and sincerely.

@@marcussabian8521 do not strike with the strength of your arm, strike with flow of Center. Remember you cannot do this but the universe can; if you think you're doing it you will break your hand. That's the best I can do. Good luck🙏
@@marcussabian8521 hold hand loose, tighten only at impact. Do not try to go through the steel or cement. Meditate on this self must be lost first
@@marcussabian8521 it is extremely difficult for a person to void ego in combat. This takes decades to learn. This is why I am in full support of the statement in this video
Dude said "smack and pull the balls!" Damn that had me going 😆
I think we all thought he might do it. That would have made this video more complete!!
Sure, punching risks breaking knuckles, but palm strikes risk breaking your wrist. If you palm strike hard as you can, and catch an arm, face, whatever, with your fingers/upper hand.... you're done. I'll stick to closed fist for most strikes.
You always have to be careful when striking someone with any part of your body.
Bastian just fucking punch . I’ve been I a lot of street fights never worried about breaking my knuckles was more worried about breaking their other guys face till he fell over or ran . He should be talking about staying on your feet more then strikes .
When you fall so you catch yourself with a closed fist? Nope palm strikes will surely be safer than closed...btw a kind heart and open mind hurts no one
@@shanekonarson or maybe learning to not need to fight...love first fight for fun
@@Bereft777 I never get into fights yet im still confident id go berserk and stomp on their head without thought
Gr8, this is the reason why mother of all marshal art “kalatipayatu” focus on Palm strike and not punches
Ouch!!
Lmao
In a fight, there will always be an ouch! The alternative to this is to "ouch" in training...
So sign up for your local MMA gym, and do a lot of knuckle and wrist exercises before the fight happens! But there is no glory without an "ouch"
Flymingo Music yeah. All gets better with training. I am more ready with my CCW that's my answer with the 21 foot rule being very little time to deal with a knife.
Glad to see this, I've used fists all my life and have a broken pinky knuckle because of it👊🏿🥊
yep, wrong angle, use the first two knuckles, when i was a kid i tryed to break a tv screen with a punch, the tv fell off, and my pinkie hand bone broke, the doctor said its common for those whho dont know how to punch
Omg.. Why is that so obviously a more efficient way to fight yet I'd never think to do it...
Keep practicing.
Andrew it's not trust me
You have to know how to do it. You're better off used Fists.
i like you telling what to do when you miss. only want to use this if absolutely needed. thanks!
