In South Africa me make a corn 'tart' (by the lack of another word) as a side to what I think you refer to as barbeque. You cook cornmeal ("soft" consistency). In a skillet, you fry onions, peppers , diced bacon and garlic till golden brown. Add a little stock if it looks dry. You want a 'saucy' consistency. Then, in an ovenproof dish, you layer the cooked cornmeal ( we call it pap), the bacon mixture, cheese, repeat a few times. Top with cream, and grated sharp cheddar. Bake until bubbly. Your ingredients just made me think of our 'paptert' and I though I would share, just for fun. Wonderful video as always, thank you.
Great information. Just remember in a true SHTF situation and you are hungry it won’t matter if it is organic or the best health conscious choice. I buy organic but I do stockpile a little of everything. Been thru my fair share of issues and have figured out you don’t want to be of the mindset that all you can have is organic. Thanks for the visual, I too learn that way.
I agree. Our pantries are stocked with organic oats, flour, rice, etc. I also try to buy organic fruits whether fresh or frozen when possible. But I do also have some foods in the pantry like cereal, canned meats, Ravioli (lol) and boxed Mac and cheese. Won't be used for everyday meals but if the food shortage gets bad, we will eat it and be thankful we have it.
Yes, good basic food is a great beginning. ❤I'm constantly learning what is and isn't working for our family. I do fill my own shelves with good plain food, and this year I'm finding wholefood recipes to replace our convenience foods too , salsa for instance. I also use my preserving skills to fill a bartering shelf , I make cordial, jam, jelly and relishes etc and barter for beautiful fresh produce like boxes of avocados or citrus bags of herbs, etc that I can then use to fill my pantry. Skills are something valuable to use wisely.💙
Thank you for doing this video. It was so helpful to see each category & see how you can simplify each one to your family's needs. Prepping is overwhelming in the beginning.
Thank you for sharing this way of breaking it down and simplifying your food preps. I’m always trying to find a better way to manage my pantry and this is very helpful!
Unfortunately brown rice, especially sprouted, has an extremely short shelf life. Even if packed in Mylar with an oxygen absorber. If you want to store rice long term, you should only do white rice varieties.
Don't ever put brown rice in mylar with oxygen absorbers, you run the risk of botulism, it has to do with the oils. Lots of discussions on this just Google it...stay safe!
Texas Mama, I appreciate you! Your videos are always calm and to the point. This world is stressful right now and your videos bring me peace while obtaining knowledge.

I also love pantry prepping so I'm excited to watch this video. I started following you on Instagram, too! Alsoooo 😂 I was so excited to see that yall love the Lord and use the KJV! I wish we could be real life friends! My husband is a truck driver and I called him to tell him all about your family. ( well, what I knew about you from 1 video! ) 😂 Thank you, thank you and I look forward to going back and watching all of your videos! Take care and I pray God continues to bless your family! ❤
So happy to find your channel! This has got to be the best prepping information that I’ve seen on here. I’m with you on not buying junk. New subscriber here...blessings and much Aloha
I believe many people will find this helpful as they are just realizing the world has changed. We need to pray for them as they begin this process. (Just one comment, though. If it comes to starving or eating white flour, white sugar and the bad oil, I will be grateful to have them in my larder. I understand your point, though. Get the most nutritious you can.)
Y'all might want to turn this whiteboard into a PDF and sell on your website as a purchase to download. I would purchase it! Maybe a check off list, too? Just brainstorming. 🙂
A meal from my childhood that i remember clearly is pasta with butter and chopped fresh tomatoes. Why? i have no idea but I loved it and it filled my tummy and my spirit.
I felt that it was a good list for the beginner. It gave some important direction, which is important to those who are trying to prepare, but have limited finances to do so. A few ideas I would add are: 1) Spices. I can still, (at least of today's date 😊), find a variety of spices for around $1 at Walmart. Cinnamon, garlic, Cumin, paprika, minced or powdered onion, basil, sage, thyme, to name some that can make a bland dish awesome. 2) I would add Barley to my list of grains. So I've read, it can help lower / control blood - sugar levels. It's filling when added to one of my favorite soups - beef vegetable & barley soups. 3) Mushrooms. I've started a practice of buy one pack for now, buy one to dehydrate (or can) for later. Mushrooms can replace meat as a protein, or so a doctor had told me. They are also nutrient dense. Although I have not (yet) mastered growing mushrooms, I've read that they do not require sunlight, and grow relatively fast under the right conditions. Like chickpeas, not everyone likes mushrooms. For those of us who do, they can be used in many dishes like, tuna casserole, on pizzas, in spaghetti sauce, in brown gravy - served over meatloaf, or mashed potatoes, or a biscuit, in stews or soups. On a personal note, I do have both canned Ravioli and boxed Mac & cheese on the shelf. In my case, I was gifted with it. But if that is what some folks can afford in order to build their pantry, either is better than going hungry, even if they are not as nutritionally sound. Yet, I also agree that nutrition is highly important as a rule, especially if one should become under stressful situations for whatever reason.
Just happened across your channel, what a blessing Thank you Jesus I'm 62 and widow, I started prepping about 4 months ago on budget for my older children and my self, My daughter really thinks I'm crazy but non the less I will prep for all my kids and my grandbabies. I would to know a little more on prepping flour I did vacuum seal in a brown lunch bag and then the vacuum seal bag do you know how long it would possibly be good for. Thank you so much for simple way to prep I was bit crazy buying all the crazy stuff.
I think a variety of things are good to have even if it isn’t the healthiest… food boredom… if not for your family for others to help them, to barter with. In less things are grown inside a building the label organic is just a label…other farms spray their crop and wind pushes that spray to other areas how does one know for sure the organic item is really organic.
Love this video! Makes everything a lot less intimidating! Also just went gluten & added sugar free. Most of what people usually say to prep is junk I can't eat! This helps a lot!
???Iodized salt might have microplastics--white rice does, for sure, if you get it from Asia--but not necessarily pink Himalayan salt. If you have ever seen how salt is mined--I've seen it first-hand in Salzburg, Austria--you would realize what a ludicrous concept that is. Plastics would have had to existed while those ancient sea beds were evaporating. I live in Utah where Redmond is, and I can tell you that because of their corrupt ties to the state legislature, they have created a monopoly on raw milk. They are corrupt from the word go. I cannot support them in ANY way!!!
Texas Mom I could hug you! THANK YOU so much for going through this - this was VERY helpful! Any suggestions as to what brand/size deep freezer works the best? Thanks again!
Would love to know what kind of meals you prepare on the nights that you don't have meat. Just curious. Obviously I can look on Pinterest. Great video =)
Hey again there Texas Mom!!! So glad you made this video, I plan on creating a book of information I I finding full of knowledge yet simple to follow, you my dear have been a huge help in that!:) Realized when I was watching your live I forgot to click notification for all!! Keep it up!! 💯 #FJB #SelfSufficiency #SelfDependency #WeThePeople
You should do a video about top 10 or 20 spices to stock and give examples of how to use them. Chili powder - white bean chicken chili, red bean chili, etc. Italian spices. Garlic. Onion. Cumin is great for Mexican food. Parsley. Basil. Dill. Cinnamon. Nutmeg. Etc. etc. examples of salad dressings, meat marinades or rubs, homemade taco seasoning, etc.
that's interesting about the coconut oil. I use olive oil and grapeseed oil, i also have coconut oil, but i only use it in baking which i don't do very often. So Coconut oil is even good for sauteing things? does it make everything taste like coconut? so many suggest avocado oil but i'm allergic to avocado.
I'm looking forward to more of these types of videos! We recently moved close to lake access so for us the meat that we will be focusing on stocking up on this summer is fish:)
Great info thanks for sharing texas mum. What is your aim? 12 months of food storage? There is talk in the prepper world that 2 years woukd be more sufficient
There are hundreds of recipes online for homemade mayo. It's essentially an acid (lemon or lime juice, vinegar), spices, and an egg yolk mized together, and then emulsified with the oil of your choice. If you use olive or avocado oil, that would be best.
@@joannathesinger770 thank you. i dont always trust recipes online. i have tried some that were no good that is why i was asking if anyone had one that they really liked.
I don't have the experience with using it but have done my own research and my understanding on milk alternatives aside from coconut milk, your almond and oat milks are basically super high in phytic acid that is very bad for you in many ways including your teeth enamel. If you consider that you traditionally would soak oats and almonds for the purpose of neutralizing and pulling out the antinutrients then you pour off that liquid. My understanding is that the milk is just that and we should not be drinking it.
Low carb includes almond, coconut and cassava flour. You can definitely learn to use those. Sardines, tuna and salmon canned is good too. Just adjust to your needs. Other than sugar, you adjust all categories to fit your needs.
I love the simple healthy way you designed your pantry. I love getting ideas what to prep, but in all honesty, I don’t agree with and would not eat the foods that 90% of the pepper’s eat. Nothing against them but food is your lifeblood. I trust nothing coming from overseas and especially the Big C. Do you use an all purpose gluten flour for everything including bead.? Thanks for great tips. 🥬🥦🥕🌽🧄🌶🍆

lentils are critical. They taste good, they can mimic meat with the right seasoing and it cooks FAST and doesn't require soaking
