- Chainsaw Man is probably one of the best if not the best new IP to come out of Jump. Tatsuki Fujimoto shines in his writing throughout each chapter and Reze is hands down one of the best character of in the whole series. While her run is short she quickly became my favorite character over all. This video is essentially just me gushing about something I love.

That just broke my heart. From Denji sitting at the cafe with a bouquet of flowers for her, to her not being able to see him. Makima was such a great villain because of that. It would have been great to see the, run away though.

I think the fact that Reze is hybrid like Denji made her to be able to bond more than any other character. I mean we know Devils rarely bond with hybrids/humans as they view them as inferior and can barely notice them, if not, just by the smell of it. And Fiends have an inherit hate towards humans and hybrids. This leaves only other hybrids to be able to see Denji, as a person, just like Reze did. She bonded with Denji, not with Chaisaw Man.

I´m honestly afraid of Reze coming back on the 2nd part of the manga.
This is Fujimoto we are talking about, so I highly doubt he will let anyone to be happy. And I don´t think I could handle to see her get reckt again
this is so so late but reze is fujimotos favorite character. the manga part 2 is releasing in the next few months by early summer and the anime in fall :) there’s probably a good chance we’ll see lady reze again

@@ridleyroid9060 oh don't get me wrong, she did awful shit and I'm not on board with all the murder, but the way she went down make me pretty sad (specially for Denji who never learned the truth). But if she comes back it will be something like Nayuta, basically as a new person and that would make the inevitable hell every Fujimoto character goes through feel even worse since she woul most likely be shown to live the kind of life she wanted before. It's similar to what I think of Power, I would love to have the blood devil back and befriend Denji again, but deep down I'm not ready for the suffering.
@Ridley Roid You act like she did the things she did cause she wanted to. You definitely sped run the manga. She was literally forced to do the things she did. If you paid attention you would know she was groomed and experimented on to be a child soldier. Plus killing was always her last resort and she didn't enjoy it. It's really impressive how many people can miss such easy details

Reze becoming the actual villain of the arc and the suspense and tension it generated in the readers who know unlike the rest of characters should be used in storytelling classes as a prime example of how to precisely create suspense much like Alfred Hitchcock famous bomb... under the table... example....

someone might've pointed this out already, but i love the parallelism between the russian lullaby and the date denji has with asa in part two of chainsaw man. in the bomb arc, it kind of gives an insight on how the date and romanticism reze crafted for denji was, at least initially, all make believe. 'today's my date with jane, everything is ready'. but then, there's the mention of the penguins, a direct parallel on what denji seems most excited about on his aquarium date with asa ('the penguins jane loves so much'). a date which, ultimately, was also make believe and EXTREMELY planned out down to every last activity by asa who, again, just wanted to use denji the same way reze had-- in this case to turn him into a weapon. all means to an end which, in the end, came apart as she grew fond of him as well.
this might be why the lullaby was not inherently a reference to anything pre-existing, but a song purposefully crafted to reflect denji's future love life. i just find it interesting having denji in the role of 'jane', have the perfect romantic experience crafted out for him, yet so far all of them being nothing but waltzes to get what his partner wants. it goes well into both the themes latched, not only onto denji, but also reze and asa-- the need for legitimate human connection only to be somehow used by a greater evil agaist their will, unable to get it.

I did not understand the symbolism of fire works being paired with Reze until I heard the sound effects, whoever edited this did a fantastic job!
"The bomb is stronger than the violence devil" unclear, galgalim is not only a fiend, but he was also being weakened by his poison mask, while reze has, presumably, much more of the "full" power of the bomb devil, perhaps the unadultered amount.
oh yeah it really feels like we've been shown nothing of the violence devil so far, and again with a name so conceptual / abstract it has to be quite powerful haha
The funny thing is that hybrids seem to be stronger than the original devil, while feinds are not. Its probably something to do with a devil giving themselves up improves their power.

@@christophercrafte in terms of power itself, a devil is most powerful. What makes contractors so powerful though would be their application and use of the powers. They might have more creativity than the devil or more strategy. Not only that but they can have multiple contracts at the same time. So a contractor has the potential to be more powerful than a devil, given that they had enough contracts, personal abilities and strategic usage.
Fiends are wayyyy weaker than their devil counterpart. Compare gun fiend with gun devil. That's all you need to see the difference in power.
It can also depend on how much the devil itself understands its powers, how much they remember about their past and their intelligence even.
I mean, I imagine death devil is the strongest devil. Why? Well, because I'm pretty sure it's categorized as a primordial devil. Because every single organism we know in Earth strives to survive and not die. Not let themselves die, not let their future generations die. Or even metaphorically speaking, you don't want some things to die out. Even suicidal people don't want to die deep down. Even if they aren't aware of it. Because whether it'd be out of emotion or other biological systems, your body as an organism is designed to survive. But I guess most organisms like single-cellular or other way lesser organisms might not count since they can't feel the emotion of fear like other animals feel. Though, they might feel the instinct or command to avoid death in a way we do not understand or might not consider it as a feeling. Because a feeling could be such an abstract and subjective concept. Either way, a lot of animals fear death in some way, regardless if they understand the concept of it. Not only that but devils also fear death. Because of the fear of ceasing to exist and not being able to come back from it.
Also the pain devil. Masochist might be said to like feeling pain but you can reverse this way of thinking by simply acknowledging that pain can be anything we dislike and feel something towards. Maybe a Masochist's pain could be something else that they themselves consider painful.
Maybe existence devil is sorta powerful. Maybe it's not a full on combative devil but it could probably have a really useful or amazing ability.
Fear devil? This one could either be kinda weak or really strong. It depends on how the author interprets fear I guess.
The change devil might not make an appearance on the manga but I think this could count as a somewhat primordial fear.
The uncertainty or unknown devil will also probably not make an appearance. Also it's linked with the darkness devil. We fear the darkness because we are most vulnerable and we can't see what's happening and that uncertainty of not being able to understand the situation gives people fear. Idk
Also, devil devil? Hmmm. I think this could be an interesting one but not as powerful as one might think.
What about destruction devil?
Punishment devil seems to be very powerful.
Reality devil? Idk about you but I sometimes get a bit scared or in denial of reality.

Chainsaw Man is such an incredible piece of work, and I’m so glad more people are reading and talking about the manga.
I get that the scene of Reze teaching Denji how to swim is in reference to the music video, but what if it was also something of teaching Denji how to be self-sustaining?
Characters teaching other characters skills that'll help them in life remind me of that "teach a man to fish ad you'll feed him for a lifetime" saying and I wonder if there was something similar happening here.
Of course it might not have been a literal skill of teaching him to swim, maybe it was symbolic of him teaching him how someone who actually loves you will help you with things that will help you throughout your life regardless of whatever changes may happen--Makima never taught him how to cook. She never taught him how to be self-sustaining should anything happen where he could not be a good enough dog for her anymore or lose his status as chainsaw man. We all know why, but this comparison might have been yet another hint at her true intentions. I'm sure I'm thinking way too deeply into it but I still wanted to note it.

This video is so gold, so informative and analysing making me realise stuff that I did not noticed, when I read these chapters.
I really like this video but i have one criticism of it, Makima never showed genuine affection towards Denji.
Makima was never interested in Denji at all. She is the antithesis to Reze.
Reze loves Denji for being Denji, while Makima loves Denji for being Chainsawman.
Makima wanted the chainsaw devil, and that's why she showed affection towards denji.

I read somewhere that in an interview Fujimoto said that “Reze” is short for “Ciskareze”, which is a georgian surname; thus explaining all the info pieces. Though I havent seen this interview myself, so take heed.

This arc was insane. Despite her only being there for 13 chapters, Reze is one of my favorite characters. Wish her and Denji could have ran away and lived happily ever after.

Reminds me of Rize from Tokyo Ghoul. Similar sounding name, both girls pretending to like the protagonist to "steal" their body parts. Both use a romantic moment to bite a piece of the protagonist. And both kind of sadistic ally attack said protagonist as they're weakened and bleeding out.

Holy shit, I am shocked. Very recently I finished CSM and loved it, I remember having random thoughts that once the anime comes out Meti would make a video about it and their characters, I am glad I was right and not only that but coming before that!
God, I hope the anime delivers, I never have been attached to a series like I have with CSM for a while.

I think it's worth mentioning that reze is pretty close to raze which is to destroy or demolish, often with explosions
this is a good video essay, but i think you have one thing wrong. "Makima can spy on chainsaw man through his heart". I am pretty sure this is 100% wrong, as witnessed by how makima was killed, and how kishibe hides denji. Makima clearly spys through external means and can lose sight of Denji.
