My father was saved by Sherpas when climbing Everest many years ago, they carried him down after getting altitude sickness and fluid started filling his lungs. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them, and my father showed his gratitude the following years by becoming close friends with one of them and getting him citizenship in the US along with his son.

The problem is that, inexperienced clients who go on expeditions like these without proper mountaineering license, use up their stock of oxygen quickly by deep breathing under stress where as Sherpa's have the habit of lightbreathing in the same stressful condition to save oxygen in their tanks... so quite often the clients run out of oxygen much before it is designed to run out! Then these beautiful souls (Sherpas) help them with their own oxygen cylinders out of generosity!

Lots of western ppl seem to get angry or upset when a comment is made such as mine, but we have to realize that most likely, none of these climbs would be possible without the help and strength of the Sherpa ppl. Its even true for the climbers that go to K2. Each one of these families that lose a loved one working on the team of a climb, (in my opinion) should be at the least, paid for the loss of that family member. Not just the $ 200 or so that the Nepalis gov claims to give these families. Just as ppl here in the US who have family members killed on a job, get a settlement of some sort. Weather its from insurance or the company involved. If we need to come up with insurance that each team has to cover for their members or gov, I dont claim to have all the answers, but we have to do something. Money could never take the place of the life of someone loved. But, it could make it easier to carry the burden of losing that person...

He stayed for Doug- he was one of his best mates -we're pretty tight-knit here in New Zealand. He wanted his bro to reach the top because he knew he'd never ever be back -they both died living. His last words to his wife were heartbreaking but I'm glad they got to speak one last time -on that call they named their unborn daughter ❤ even if you had a wife and unborn baby at home.. at the time, you would've done the same. I couldn't have left my bro
-i'm perhaps biased.. I'm Kiwi and am good friends with a postman ❤ I couldn't leave him

It wasn’t a Sherpa who died on the movie based on a true story, The lead guide was Rob Hall who had summited 5 times, He stayed because with his friend Doug Hanson. There were many things that happens that led to their demise. Weather, No Oxygen tanks that were either stolen or lost, Past time of when the turn around was suppose to be. Doug Hanson shouldn’t of been allowed too continue past the time of turn around.

It was actually Sange's customer's fault that they got stuck up there. The Pakistani customer was very slow so most of the group they were with headed to the summit and left Sange behind to guide the slow Pakistani businessman.
On their way to summit, Sange told the Pakistani businessman that they should turn around because they are moving slow and as a result won't have enough oxygen. The Pakistani businessman got mad and demanded they continue because he "paid a lot of money."
On the way down from the summit the Pakistani man ran out of oxygen and fell down. Sange could've left him but instead waited and shared his oxygen. Sange would still have his fingers if he had left the greedy man behind but instead he put his life at risk to save someone who ignored his guidance in the first place.
It seems like this businessman should be thankful to Sange and should incur all medical/loss of wages cost Sange will incur as a result of saving his life.

He could have easily left that man and thought about saving himself. He didn’t. He even gave him his oxygen and saved his life. He didn’t have to but he did. He put the life of others before himself.
The courage, strength and integrity of this beautiful man is unbelievably heartwarming.
The Sherpa people are poor, they risk their lives to do expeditions like this for the tourist climbers so they can provide for their families. What the companies charge mostly $100k these lovely people get crap. They carry massive bags 3 times their size up different levels for camps - it is terrible and heartbreaking
More respect and understanding needs to be provided to the Sherpa people. They are the true hero’s here.

I think i should point out that as far as i know Sherpa's do not have life insurance, in this 'game' you are a Sherpa or a Porter, Sherpa's earn more, you can see the attraction, these people have families to feed, if they are in trouble do you think a rescue helicopter will come for them? not without life insurance, hundreds of people take on Everest yearly and i personally feel if they are to hire a Sherpa they should pay for that persons life insurance like any reasonable employer would.

That's neither here nor there, i worked in a war zone reconnecting the electricity supply, but you do not accept death as a consequence of your employment, not even if you are in the military, and even then you try to minimise it, climbing Everest is not a necessity it is a feat of endurance and skill, a hobby for most, a job for others, i truly believe as i stated, that Sherpa's should be protected with adequate insurance in case of accident or incident, this is how they feed their families and with little or no recompense they have saved many lives whilst in this service caring and rescuing people they do not even know, for you to comment, they pay Sherpa's for their service, there are many dangerous jobs in the world, sounds as if you believe them to be a commodity, that's how i read it, brave men risking life for people they do not know says it all, they should be looked after and held in the highest regard, i look to others to comment on this as their input would be appreciated, good day to you sir.

Adodoes - No worries. They are similar to a skin graft but slightly different. The main difference being a flap has an intact blood supply where a skin graft doesn't. Flaps are more hard wearing than a skin graft but a lot more complicated to do as micro surgery is needed to graft the flap back in to the body's blood supply. To give you an idea the flap on my foot is about 150 x 65mm and took about 10 hours to complete. You can check them out on Wikipedia, type 'Flap (surgery)'. It explains it far better than I ever could. Hope this helps.

Adodoes - It's amazing what surgeons can do these days. When they first take a flap and move it to a different part of the body they make it bigger than is needed. Once the flap has healed they thin it down. This is because it's easier to thin it down than add to it. When I had the flap on my foot thinned down they used the excess skin to do a skin graft on my toes.

If you can trust on only one in this planet is Sherpa.
I’m from Nepal I know them very well. I had some Sherpa friends. They’re so innocent so so trustworthy.
There is another tribe Tharu who are also extremely innocent and trustworthy. And they have the best, coolest, loveliest accent on Nepali language.
Ppl also say that if you piss Sherpa and Tharu off too much then they book you a flight to the heaven.
Sherpa & Politicians are 2 opposite extremes of TRUST.

No sympathy for climbers who don't make it when their selfish ambition exceeds their ability, they risk the lives and well being of others. Like the dedicated Sherpa's who virtually carry some them who no doubt then go home and don't mention the Sherpa at all.

    • @aidandaly3773
      @aidandaly3773 6 лет назад +15

R Greenup 'exceeds their ability?' climbing mt everest exceeds every climbers ability until they complete it. Thats why they do it, because its a challenge. I hardly think its selfish, sometimes shit just goes wrong. He didn't ask to be saved, they saved him regardless. If I'm right about one thing then it'd be how bloody grateful the climbers would be for their help. I doubt they'd just go home and forget about the people that saved them.

Wtf Aidan... Why would one need sherpas then? If someone wants to risk their life, then they are free to go. It's actually commonly known that some people are too ambitious.. especially when they pay ridiculous amounts of money for such an occasion. Sometimes assertiveness pays off, unless you want someone else risk their life.
