Can’t WAIT until you go back there a Chigg! I’ll bet there’s soooo many artifacts and treasure wedged amongst all those cracks and crevasses.... Great video! Please do another?
You were making me wicked nervous, I was really enjoying knowing how fast the tide comes in Down East.... I can honestly say that metal detecting videos have never made my heart race... Until now. Great job Chigg
So, I did some e-digging, and those grates and buttons are a type of battery plate. Here's a small list of what I've collected: 1. That plate design is called the "Manchester Positive". It is the positive electrode in this style of battery. 2. The grid is a lead antimony alloy, and the "buttons" are rolls of pure lead. The rolls form a build-up of lead-peroxide. The grate does not, because the antimony protects the it. This keeps the grate from deteriorating. 3. The positive and negative plates were separated with wood inserts. At one point, these battery cells were housed in open glass jars. 4. They were used for various things, including cars. One source of several I found is a book from 1923, by Charles W. T. Stuart, called "Car Lighting by Electricity". It's on Google Books for free if you want to look, and there are several other good reads on the topic as well.
I'm honestly a little mindblown that there's copper there. Just south og there-- mid-coast, the water totally eats copper. The 'coins' and spoon bits I've found were just like lace. Brass holds up better, it seems. Amazing treasure hunt!
One thing I have learned over many years of watching you Chigg, is look where "nothing would be" And a lot of times it will be there. Thank you for so very much great info over the years!! I have found where you said.
been watching your stuff for a few months now. i live in the woods of Maine, i`ve been detecting some old cellar holes on routes that have been used for a couple hundred years. great fun and exercise, lol. good stuff, Chigg, thanks for the fun, ive learned a lot watching you
The large plate at the end, is a backwash plate inside a kahooter valve found in turn of the century trawlers use in fish oil production. May all my future children be born naked if I'm wrong!
The large lead plate and the other large lead objects are from big lead acid storage batteries. I recognize them as I worked in the battery recycling business for 15 years and have seen them often also It's kind of a mystery as to why all those battery parts would be down in that crevice. There was a crank from a hit and miss engine and a couple of engine flywheels near there also.
And see I've always imagined most folks from the Midwest sounding like Edie McClurg with that overly cheery, nothing phases them accent. Oh you betcha.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place for sure. That trip wore me out. When you were squeezing through the cracks and crevices, I was all tense and even holding my breath.

Interesting video. I have many cousins living in Maine that are lobster fishermen so any videos from there is very interesting to me. Enjoyed watching.
What a cool place! Ya! Grab that buoy. Would come in handy for marking the spot where it is good to anchor or moor your boat. 😉 A flathead screwdriver would have been handy eh? 😁. A magnet would clear out a lot of stuff if you had one? Good Lord! I could not have gone through there, my hips would be killing me! 😆 Yup - wear gloves! LOL! 😁 It sure was interesting to see what had collected in that crevice. Yes! Go back there! 😁👍🏻
This video caused a dream after watching it of scratching around and uncovering a piece of flat sea shell that was black on one side. On that side was a detailed etching of a pastoral scene of people sitting on a rock in ancient robes. It could only be seen by turning it at certain angle like a hologram on paper currency!
Awesome! You have to go back and take us with you!! I bet there are LOTS more coins to be found! Bring a backpack with needle nose pliers, hammer, and screwdriver, and GLOVES. You can always leave it up top,. At least it will be close.

Those big "gears" you pointed out were actually flywheels off of some kind of engine. If you look close by there was a crankshaft probably out of the same motor

There are a ton of large engine parts in there, which is weird... right? Flywheels(when you said "big gear!"), crankshafts, etc.
One of the more intriguing (and unprepared) vids I've seen this week. That juxtaposition works, and is kinda refreshing.

That flat plate thing at 25:16 with all the little round things in it is a "vintage positive battery plate". From old Farm Lighting Batteries.
