    For me, Radiohead has been the best band on the planet for the past 25 years. From their early albums (Pablo Honey, The Bends, OK Computer) they established themselves as the premiere British Rock band to emulate. So they reinvented themselves with Kid A and Amnesiac. Both albums were like a gauntlet being thrown down as a challenge to all those bands who made a living lifting their sound. They've continued to experiment, and rock, and grow as their career as a band continues. The lead singer, Thom Yorke, and the lead guitar player Jonny Greenwood, are both musical geniuses. And both have separate solo acts, Greenwood in particular also doing some movie soundtracks (There Will Be Blood being a notable one). The other band members are excellent musicians as well and also have their own separate projects. Radiohead is a band I always recommend seeing live 3 times. Once to just watch Thom Yorke, once to just watch Jonny Greenwood. And once to just enjoy just how cohesive and tight a band they all are together on stage. These are musicians and people who know each other so well, there's a synchronicity you don't often see in bands, especially live.

      Radiohead actually have a lot of upbeat and humorous moments in their songs. They’re just very dry and witty about the execution. Definitely a British sensibility coming through

    Yes, I'm not going to devalue my childhood, but this style of animation was prevalent in children's shows like 'Trumpton' and 'Camberwick Green' that would have been common knowledge to the band members growing up in the UK. In that instance it was about tradition and English whimsy that is perhaps more difficult to transate.

    What’s great about Radiohead is how they evolve their music and still keep that high standard of amazing output. Their newest album AMSP I would say definitely holds up to their classics.

    • @halfalligator6518
      @halfalligator6518 4 года назад +1

      easily. AMSP has the same fantastic song-writing... they've just matured into a more spaced out and orchestrated sound? Something closer to Talk Talks last few albums. Not many bands stay great, Radiohead are one... I thought maybe Flaming Lips but then they made some shitters.

    Awesome song, which features some of Jonny Greenwood's best string arranging, using some unusual bowing techniques and layer multiple styles to give the rise and fall of the strings. The video is based on a 1973 horror film called The Wicker Man which is pretty cool. There's a more recent remake with Nick Cage. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wicker_Man

    This might not be the most accessible song jumping to this coming from a song off The Bends album era. To help understand there was an 80s kids stop-go animated program called Trumpton which is where the look comes from. There is the 1973 film The Wicker Man which is awesome and where the concepts are coming from.

    The people should have formed a huge ring around the Wicker Man & then proceed to join hands & start singing - all the while swaying in time to the song they are singing. Seriously watch the original The Wicker Man (just the regular cut, not the extended cut). And avoid the remake like the plague, it ranks even higher on the They Just Didn't Get It scale than the remake if Village if the Damned.
