Decades later, and this song still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
I love this band.
Bring me to tears man
Same here, man. I’ve got chills as I’m typing this.
As much as they've grown as musicians and their sound has evolved, this song is still their masterpiece to me. (Although I think Kid A is their best album over all).
Lex @ 4:55 gets my vibe.
Same, and this album in its entirety... I pretty much always have to listen to it in full.
i second that sir
This album on a long car ride in the rain hits different
Reese rg
Yeah I could see that
100% I used to put this cd in on rainy drives 😂
hell yeah. i recently drove through a rainstorm and i had "Exit Music (For a Film)" playing. Set the tone perfectly
In Rainbows is good for a car ride on a cool, overcast day
One of my all time favorite songs. It's like a haunted amusement park, full of fascinating and weird and wonderful things. And OK Computer is one of the greatest 90's albums IMO.
really like this analogy
Of all time, not just the 90's.
@@mikeking683 yessir
@@mikeking683 Indeed.
The feeling of going down the Radiohead rabbit hole for the first time was both stunning and scary. The first song I've ever heard from them was Idioteque, which is still my 2nd favorite Radiohead song. Months, years passed by, and when I listened to Paranoid Android, I loved it and just kept hitting the replay button for an hour straight. Then, other Radiohead songs were starting to pop up in the recommendations, I started to explore the whole (OK Computer) album, and I only listened to Creep after all these, which was, a good song I guess, but this album had already amazed me. You can't really reach this extremely high level ever again - I thought, before I listened to In Rainbows. Oh, my God...
Now Imagine listening to this in 1997. It was like nothing I had ever heard. Futuristic.
I actually burst into tears when they reached the coda section. I didn't think I had anything so beautiful and yet absolutely LOADED with agony and anger as that moment.
But then, I have loved Radiohead since DAY ONE.
Nothing like you have ever heard is something i do believe in you when you say
But futuristic? I think amiga tracker demos from before that were more futuristic
The prodigy, aphex twin and daft punk were already active by 97
I remeber seeing No suprises on MTV and was absolutely god smacked. That music video hits especially hard
This song has always felt like Radiohead’s bohemian rhapsody to me, maybe it’s the structure that does it, my admiration for this band goes beyond words it’s simply the soundscape of my life, Jonny Greenwood has also composed some of the most stunning soundtracks to modern films. I don’t think we will see a band like this again.
I have only heard this song a couple of times a long time ago. Wow, this is an absolute masterpiece of epic proportions!!!!
I read that they spent a lot of studio time getting this song just right, above the others of the album. Job done.
Muse's Citizen Erased also has a similar vibe.
far far better then bohemian rhapsody
The song was heavily inspired from Bohemian Rhapsody too
Radiohead’s “OkComputer” is in a similar vein as PinkFloyd’s “wish you were here” or “dark side of the moon” , they are Albums that make more sense listening to the whole thing, but they all deal with modern life’s neurosis and the yearning (and inability) to connect.
yeah exactly! these two (plus Tool) are on the top of my goat-list.. they all are so similar and yet so unique!
Animals and The Wall were also concept albums
What a ridiculous soundscape....definitely worth listening to with your eyes closed, a musical experience.
@@jasondaniels640
I always tell people to find a place you can listen to it at night while staring at the stars … it’s incredible.
It's been thought of as a modern day bohemian rhapsody
You're definitely spot on, as they do typically write about darker topics like alienation, etc. Cheery stuff like that lol. They are genius songwriters and known for their uber-dramatic flare and use of interesting time signatures with melodious minor key chord progressions, etc. Not for everyone, but pretty much everyone acknowledges their massive talent
You are spot on. They are one of the best. Thom Yorke is a genius. Great musicianship throughout the band. The Bends and Pablo Honey 👍👍
Prog rock for a new generation? Amazing even now.
Lex: I’m getting Bistro vibes.
Me: that statement will not hold up in about a minute. 😂
😆
0:50 unborn chicken voices = the percussive instrument, egg-shakers. Thom was trying to sleep on the tour bus while other band members were screwing around with percussion. The sound egg-shakers make = unborn chicken voices.
I highly recommend Street Spirit by Radiohead! One my favorites of all rime!
Spot on, ok computer is amazing but I still love the bends best
if they really love the dark and deep side of Radiohead, Street Spirit is a perfect choice to start their journey :)
GOD YES. And it's got a similar vibe to this one. Then "Just" and "Talk Show Host" and and...
Also the "With all these unborn chicken voices in my head" line of Paranoid Android kind of refers to the same thing as Street Spirits third verse I think. I remember reading somewhere that Thom was basically haunted by the idea of all those lives lost (albeit chickens) in as mundane product as chicken egg.
Agreed! Such a great song. Also, according to Thom himself, the only Radiohead song that has absolutely no moment of hope in it whatsoever. It's just 100% bleak. But, still, what a great song! The official studio/music video version is great, ofc, but I have always loved the version they do Live From The 10 Spot as well: ruclips.net/video/byNsquuEGxY/видео.html
I'm growing more and more impressed by your choices as time goes on, this is one of the most important bands of all time.
Radiohead have been described as Pink Floyd for the darker, stressful, paranoid times we live in. The cosmic bliss of the mid 60s to mid 70s is long gone. I don't know why I like Radiohead because metaphysical pseudo-prog rock isn't my thing but I find that their songs manage to worm their way into my head.
Radiohead isn't prog rock, so maybe that's why you like them.
dunno, this is very reminiscent of early Genesis, a modern take.@@maudelhoyo4019
Gotta do "Karma Police" now.
My favourite part of this was Brad's incredulous, "I've never had a panini." 😂
Brad is truly, a man of the people.
YES! More Radiohead!!!!!!!!
you should do "Exit (Music for a film)" by Radiohead... heck you should do all their repertoire...It's a journey into greatness
It's a very prophetic album, called "ok computer" because it predicted talking to a computer (i.e. that would be the wakeup phrase) before Alexa and google home. Paranoid Android comes from the book the hitchhikers' guide to the galazy.
Marvin! I was wondering if anybody knew that. I'm guessing that maybe Radiohead fans are too young to get that reference.
"OK Computer" is something that is constantly said to the ship's computer in Hitchhiker's Guide as well.
This is a genius song from a genius band. I agree with Lex about the churchy sound. I love your reactions
But like...a haunted church. ;p
Would looooooooooove a reaction to "Let Down" from this album, OK Computer, if you're gonna do more Radiohead! Seriously one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Amazing song! All the instruments taking the lead during the song and coalesce at the end was incredible! Masterpiece indeed!
My Fav Radiohead song. It's so underrated.
Yes some of their music is just really beautiful - it's not all dark and gloomy- although yes still not exactly cheery...🤔
The entire album is a masterpiece.
100% agree with "Let Down". The song that finally made me admit I was wrong all along about these guys, and finally made them grow on me. 15 years after this album came out.
cant go wrong with radiohead tbh. songs are always so different. so many too.
yeah u can, creep
@@FirstnameLastname-nd9wx thought u were calling me a creep :) but yea, creep is the popular choice, but nowhere near their best.
@@chrislc35 yeahh i dont think its a bad song tbh. it's just so much worse than everything from the bends onward and a misrepresentation of them
From OK Computer to Kid A to Amnesiac to In Rainbows and the album before and all the albums after. Radiohead is one of the greatest bands of all time. Ever. It isn't even a conversation. They are consistently great and while their sound is varied it is uniquely distinct to the band.
Whenever I hear the opening to Airbag, the first song off OK Computer, I'm instantly taken back to being in high school and can see the glowing dashboard of my Volkswagen. The album came out years before I could even drive but it was the first album I played. My friends, girlfriends and I would blast that album with the windows down driving around in the hot Atlanta summer nights.
Ques magazine ranked their albums 1 AND 2. With Beatles Love album coming in 3rd. Thats a well established music magazine
I used to love taking a winding road somewhere off in the middle of nowhere, late at night! Rolling through somewhere in Western WA State, sky full of a million stars. Way out in the deep dark Olympic Mountain range area. Smoke a J or two, then follow some winding road to nowhere, playing this album, and “In Rainbows”, in a loop. Sometimes I’d throw in 311’s “Soundsystem”.. Good times!!
@@DoomsdayIsComing73 Especially on a bicycle!
A wonderful post. I agree. For me the timeframe was different, but the emotions are the same. Unimpeachable. Peerless album.
@@colemandias3212 yes, that’s right. I bought Q magazine as I very slowly and carefully drove home to Scotland from Glastonbury 1997. They declared it immediately as the ‘best performance by a band ever’. It was. Period.
Even as a Metal/Hard Rock fan, I absolutely LOVE this song !
The main guitar riff could definitely be a metal riff, it’s so cool
This song is a masterpiece. Thom Yorke's voice is one of the great weapons in music, and nobody plays guitar like Johnny Greenwood.
I get Lex's bistro vibe. Just play it at the end of the evening when you want the diners to leave.
👍👏👏
As a one time owner of a 24 hr coffee shop, Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew will clear people out faster than anything else I’ve found. On The Corner & Pangea will work as well🤣
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 funnily enough Thom has said bitches brew was a major influence on this song.
That album is a masterpiece.
LOVE Radio Head, and OK Computer has to be one of their best! The entire album works on another level when played straight through. But you may want to check out "Fake Plastic Trees" off of the Bends album...one of my favorites.
Fake Plastic Trees should be next up, but we all know Karma Police is the front runner.
''How to disappear completely'' should be next
Too soon
@@ommane9365 life is too short for anything to be too soon. 😁
@MAH RULES i find it rather uplifting. Got me out of many depressive moods.
@@EarthlyEden1 what I meant was they need to get accustomed to Radiohead's sound. You have to ease into it or else it doesn't make much sense. That's why I think they should probably react to something from The Bends or In Rainbows before they get to the heavy stuff
@@ommane9365 i don't agree, if they get too accustomed the reaction would be slighty jaded. Best to get in straight away. 😉
I cannot recommend listening to this entire album more.
?
@@michaelsangster2354--They should listen to the entire album, Ok Computer.
I don't always go for a job interview. But when I do I make sure to put on my best unborn chicken voice.
One of the greatest songs of all time. The songwriting and structure are masterful. The lyrics are introspective and reflective of our troubled planet. And each musician adds to the many layers present throughout the song creating a masterpiece.
This is one of the first songs I learned to play, This song is from the album OK Computer is considered the best album of all time! If you guys wanna hear something more chill check out Karma Police 🔥
*one of the best albums of all time lol
@@annihilatepestcontrol6305 glad someone said it!
Personally I prefer The Bends but OK Computer is really good too
@@mikethemotormouth I always felt the bends was a stronger album however when I'm in the mood for OKcomputer it's the perfect album however I have to really want to listen to it. Bends is more casual friendly
Kid A is the greatest album of all time
@@xx-ug9hn You are more than welcome to that wrong opinion
She was laughing cause she could hear the Android singing in the solo. Lol. This is a I'm a weirdo kind of song. The sound and timing on this track is art. I will always love this song.
Check out Radiohead "Let Down"
“Fake Plastic Trees” is a good one. I also like “Lotus Flower” a lot.
i loveeee lotus flower!! especially the music video, the way thom dances is so mesmerizing lol
I love the utter breakdown into Brad & Lex discuss food and restaurant types. lol
Lex has the best personality/energy. Guys - please react to Going to California by Led Zeppelin (if you haven't already!)
I don’t mind Led Zeppelin and really love a few of their songs but that song is one of the greatest things to ever exist, music or otherwise
The lead guitarist, Jonny Greenwood, is one of the most important film composers of the last decade or so.
This whole album is incredible and needs to be listened to front to back for a full appreciation. In my opinion👍
Greatest song of the last 30 years.
Radiohead is great because you can go in so many directions. From "OK Computer" you could go with "Karma Police", "Climbing Up the Walls", "No Surprises", "Lucky". Or you can go to "The Bends" and listen to "The Bends", "Fake Plastic Trees", "Street Spirit". Off "In Rainbows" you have "Weird Fishes", "Reckoner". And you still haven't touched "Kid A", "Amnesiac", or "Hail To the Thief".
This song is nothing short of a masterpiece!
I remember when this song first came out I was just mind blown, I'd never heard something so hauntingly beautiful.
That chaos, "outness", was completely intentional and is part of the expansion of the musical vocabulary. It's been around for awhile now
Please keep it going with "Subterranean Homesick Alien", my personal favorite Radiohead song.
I thought I was the only one who thought this!
@@msj5885 The lyrics and celestial guitar notes put it over the top for me!
Would love to see more Radiohead reactions! Such an amazing band
IMO the line "God loves his children" is sarcastic in the sense that he is talking about superficial sociopaths the whole song. like atleast someone loves them. xD
I read it as an idea that brings some relief to the speaker, who's in a great amount of pain (the hope that someone/something could eventually intervene). He then shortcircuits at the end.
The original line was "God loves his children; that's why he kills them" but the record company made them change it to just God loves his children 2x. So yes, he was being very facetious.
Radiohead is my favorite band so that hold a very special place. When I saw you were doing this song I said my wife “idk this might be too chaotic for them”. Funny you said chaos at least twice😂 But in all seriousness you nailed it and you heard it. I mean actually heard it. Some ppl can’t. Please do more
SO weird to hear any song from the "OK Computer" album out of context. That thing truly is an *album* ,& is best absorbed as such. It is indeed a mighty musical work. :)
Play this in a Bistro. Anyone that stays and doesn't leave, well, you just found a good soul to talk to.
It's a dark/beautiful tune. All of it artistic. Good reaction.
Rain down bit always gets me so emotional and intense masterpiece
It takes time to really understand and fully appreciate radiohead. But it's so worth it. These guys are their own masters. I don't think a band has so continually impressed me as much as them apart from the beatles.
That album was HUGE has impacted rock ever since it's release.
Probably my favorite Radiohead song - I guess I'm more like Lex enjoying the music over words and meanings
Lex always gets into the songs more when bands start to rock. I was definitely waiting for this one to kick in, and when it did she got a big smile as expected :)
Spot on lex. Where i live, radio head is a fix band to be on every cafe' and bistro's playlist.
This CD will change your life. Radiohead will change your life LOL They are really wonderful.
This particular CD though, was just so different from what had been done or was on the radio/MTV at the time. It was so fresh and innovative with different sounds and tones and textures. I hope you guys check out more from them. You can't go wrong.
Today I found your channel, and binged it for too many hours. I like about you both, that one can see your love for music and that you are very open minded about discovering genres. For sure I will watch a so much ,ore videos from your channel. Cheers
Its a very eerie song, its basically about tom going to la and being at a bar in LA, and dealing with drunk passive aggressive LA people, and his anxiety going on full fledge. You know when you are out in public and you feel off, and you just want to get out and go home?
I *gasped* when I saw this title. This song is EPIC, y'all.
This album is one of the few that deserves a full listen front to back. There's not a track on it I want to skip through.
I think Electioneer-ing is skippable. But otherwise, yes, the album is genius.
I have no desire to listen to Fitter Happier.
Even Fitter Happier, really a skit, is awesome! I'm sure that's not how it was created (maybe it was?) but I can picture Thom typing up the lyrics and recording the computer reading it out.
@@GoSolar kid a and in rainbows better though
@@Rl-tn1ys I agree. I rank IR, Kid A, and OK Computer as my top three, in that order.
Never seen a video Brad couldn’t pause
You know they are required to pause the videos its a control thing. They could have the video taken down if they don't.
Loved how you two grooved separately to the different beats in that song. It’s a fav of mine and grooved along with you.
OK Computer is one of the best albums ever recorded in my opinion. Worth listening all the way through.
Lex’s smile at the end, I totally recognize that. Sometimes my only reaction to Radiohead is to smile/laugh in disbelief
"that was more of a musical experience than a song" perfect comment.
That was a super first time reaction to watch. Always great to see peoples first time reactions and not knowing what to expect!
Decades later and this song still makes me want to go grab a panini !
Please do "Pyramid Song" from these same guys when you get a chance
You guys are my favorite reactors out there, because you do it together and because you do both lyrics (brad) and music (lex) and also because lex is adorable.
Watching this because of your Tool reactions. Radiohead is my other favorite band. Both groups just caught me at the right time in my youth and nobody else has been able to replace either of them. Good job guys. Keep going 😎
You guys are awesome as the logical and the creative taking things in....but then when you discuss you help each other out...it's just awesome... I get you and you're great together ❤
A couple of things about Radiohead, Tom York makes interesting note choices when he sings. And the guitarist is absolutely lit in a really really good way.
Which one? Ed or Jonny or Thom?
@@mikethemotormouth I don't know the names, the lead guitarist, and lead vocals, I thought it was kinda obvious from listening to the music, they're the ones who go to interesting places with unexpected rythmic and melodic choices.
@@Kipperbob Yeah Jonny generally is doing those most of the lead parts that stick out. Definitely all the aggressive ones. Thom is almost always playing rhythm and Ed mixes it up often playing textural stuff on top of rhythm or leads.
Jonny Greenwood also is one of the premier film composers of the moment.
Lex described it best as an energy bar that builds with each part of the music and you just keep wiping it back to zero.
Jeff Buckley, Grace is amazing and inspired them to an extent.
Love the bistro vibe comment. Lex clearly had no idea what was still to come. Fantastic song and we still can't say how far ahead of its time it was, the rest of the world hasn't caught up yet. Love your reactions guys. Keep em coming.
This is my go-to song to just chill and relax...other than the Johnny Greenwood guitar solo lol. The way he plays the guitar is supposed to be "off" but it works so well in Radiohead's music in my opinion. thanks for sharing Brad & Lex :)
Try and react to any Radiohead LIVE. The Basement sessions are a good place to start; Reckoner, Nude, Weird Fishes…….
All I'm Rainbows songs which I was preaching on my comment hahah. Absolutely!! I have that specific album tattooed on my back. And as a straight male, that shows a lot of love and dedication for a band. Wouldn't do that for no reason hahah
@MayorWahna Noted. Thanks. ✌️😁
One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite bands. Great choice for your video.
Loved watching the contrast between Lex grooving to the vibe, while Brad over there looking disturbed at where the lyrics are going.
Going from Creep to Paranoid Android is a big culture shock. Radiohead made monumental gains in their innovation as a band in that time. When Ok Computer came out it was an event. People were listening to this song which was release as the first single trying to wrap their head around it. Then, after hearing the entire album there was even more of trying to figure out what the fck it was. It blew a lot of people's minds and completely rendered Brit Pop obsolete much the same way that Nevermind did with 80s glam metal. It is widely regarded as one of the best albums of the 90s. My favorite thing about it is that everyone has an opinion of it. If you listen to the entire record you can't ignore it. Some people hate it. Some people love it but everyone has a response to it one way or the other. That is what real art is about.
I believe it’s natural for anyone who is not familiar with Radiohead to feel quite “disturbed” after they listen to this song ( think of your grandparents hearing creep or karma police for the first time).
With that being said, rh does a great job of connecting sound to evoke this feeling of mental unrest an otherwise normal & healthy minded individual would never experience. Thank you brad & lex for being open minded to entertaining such a wide array of music requests!
I'm digging the Borussia Dortmund FC top there.
god i love radiohead so much!! they're absolute geniuses
Love the reaction as well as the song, as well as the album.
Shout out from Florida. Love the shirt!
The perplexed look of confusion but head bobbing and then the feeling of "what the hell just happened" is pretty much the first reaction. Second reaction is, I think I need to listen to that again.
Always loved you guys! As an avid Radiohead, Metallica fan. But now, as a Dortmund fan too?! Hell yeah! xxx
was looking for that BVB comment :)
i remember car riding to the lake on a sunny day with my cousins in the 90s, this song playing on the radio, and me being amazed at how good this is and how awesome it is that its actually playing on the radio
such a different era
Radiohead kind of crept up on me. When I first heard them, I wasn't sure I liked them. After hearing them a few more times over the course of two or three years, I suddenly heard genius in everything they did. Especially Paranoid Android, which has entered my top ten list of favorite songs.🐙
The Bends, OK Computer and In Rainbows. Three epic masterpieces by Radiohead.
This song was like a modern day stairway to heaven for me, with the way the different parts of the song all sound.
Haha I love you, Lex. As soon as there are distorted guitars, you start smiling.
I believe alot of the lyrics from this song came from an experience Thom had in a bar/club in LA, surrounded by people who had taken ALOT of cocaine.
Not sure if that's true. But I do strongly hear the notion of the 'being the only sobor person at the party' when I hear this song.
